My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 53
“Little Star?” Mrs. Jian was stunned for a moment and looked at her daughter.
Was this person calling her daughter?
As soon as He Qing called her by that pet name, Jian Fanxing’s face turned red. When she noticed her mother looking at her, she immediately lowered her head and stared at her toes.
This was so embarrassing!
Jian Fanxing usually liked it when He Qing called her “Little Star,” but today was different. She felt annoyed at herself for forgetting to tell He Qing not to use that name in front of others.
Even Mr. Jian couldn’t help but glance at his daughter a few more times.
He considered himself a doting father, but even he had never called his daughter something so affectionate.
As for Jian Xiaofeng, he was already laughing like crazy after hearing his sister being called “Little Star.”
Little? His sister was already twenty-five! No matter how you looked at it, she wasn’t little at all.
Maybe it was just her imagination, but He Qing felt that after she said that name, Mrs. Jian’s gaze toward her became a little softer.
Indeed, Mrs. Jian’s gaze had softened. As a woman, her instincts told her that the person in front of her truly cherished her daughter. That warmed her heart a little.
But that didn’t mean she would accept their relationship.
“Miss He, right? From what I see, your family is quite well-off,” Mrs. Jian said. “But as for our family, you’ve seen it yourself. The gap between us is huge.”
“People say that when choosing a husband, you should find someone of equal status. Just based on that, you and Little Star are not a good match. Your family is rich. Even without Little Star as your girlfriend, you can still find someone better. But our Little Star is different. The older a woman gets, the harder it is for her to find a good partner. Miss He, if you really care about Little Star and want her to have a happy future, I think you shouldn’t be together.”
“Mom, sister… He Qing is my happiness,” Jian Fanxing lifted her head and firmly stated.
“Jian Fanxing, be quiet!” Mrs. Jian glared at her daughter.
Hearing their mother use her sister’s full name, Jian Xiaofeng quickly pulled on his sister’s sleeve. “Don’t talk anymore. Mom is really mad.”
Jian Fanxing knew her mother was angry, but she still didn’t feel comfortable letting He Qing face her mother alone.
She didn’t want He Qing to be treated unfairly.
Sensing Jian Fanxing’s worry, He Qing glanced at her with warmth in her eyes.
She didn’t say anything, but Jian Fanxing understood her meaning. She was telling her not to worry—she was here.
Jian Fanxing pressed her lips together and lowered her head. Tears welled up in her eyes.
She felt so useless. This was something they were supposed to face together, but now her sister had to deal with it alone.
He Qing turned back to Mrs. Jian and spoke again. “Auntie, first of all, I don’t think social status is an issue. If money is the measure of whether two people can be together, then right now, Little Star has as much wealth as I do.”
As she spoke, He Qing took a stack of documents from her bag and placed them neatly on the table.
“Auntie, Uncle, these are all of my assets, including my bank savings, properties, company shares, and investments in funds and stocks. I went through everything and divided it equally into two parts—one belongs to me, and the other belongs to Little Star.”
Mrs. Jian curiously glanced at the documents, but she couldn’t understand them, so she turned to her husband.
Mr. Jian understood a little more than she did, but his face was still full of doubt.
“Miss, are you saying that half of these assets belong to Little Star?” he asked.
“It’s a gift. Half of my assets will be given to Little Star,” He Qing said calmly.
She spoke as if the documents in front of her were nothing more than scrap paper. But Jian Fanxing, who knew how much effort He Qing had put into earning that wealth, was shocked.
“Sister, I don’t want this,” Jian Fanxing refused without even thinking.
After learning more about He Qing, Jian Fanxing understood how much these assets meant. They were the result of countless sleepless nights and endless hard work. She couldn’t accept them so easily.
Jian Xiaofeng glanced at the documents. He didn’t understand much, but he recognized the words “He Group” on the company shares and saw the estimated value.
He walked over to his mother and whispered, “Mom, this document says that Sister He owns a company worth hundreds of billions. If she really gives half of her assets to Sister, wouldn’t that make us rich?”
Rich? The thought was exciting. But when Jian Xiaofeng heard his sister refuse without hesitation, he didn’t feel any disappointment.
Even though there were billions in front of them, nothing was worth more than his sister’s firm decision.
Mrs. Jian was completely shocked by what her son just told her.
Hundreds of Billions? Is This What They Call ‘Poverty Limits Imagination’ Online?
Mrs. Jian had assumed that He Qing’s family might have tens of billions at most. But to her shock, just one of these documents was worth several hundred billion! And yet, He Qing spoke so casually about giving half of it to her daughter?
Mrs. Jian stared at He Qing, trying to see if she was faking it. But no matter how she looked, He Qing remained calm and composed, as if she was completely unbothered.
“Honey,” Mrs. Jian turned to her husband.
Mr. Jian had also heard their son’s words, but rather than being tempted, he felt more concerned.
So much money—was she really giving it away just like that? Did this girl even discuss it with her family?
With that thought, Mr. Jian looked at He Qing and asked, “Young lady, what does your family think about you and Little Star?”
“My mother has already passed away. My father really likes Little Star. He actually wants me to marry her as soon as possible,” He Qing said with a slight smile as she mentioned her father.
Her parents had always supported her in everything she did. They had never opposed her decisions.
Hearing this, Mr. Jian turned to Jian Fanxing and asked, “Little Star, have you met He Qing’s father?”
Jian Fanxing nodded. “Yes, I’ve met him.”
“Everything my sister said is true.”
She still remembered the first time she met He Jun. The way he looked at her—it was already like a father looking at his son-in-law. He even gave her a red envelope with 200,000 yuan. Though it later became just 2,000 yuan, it was clear that Uncle He liked her.
After hearing his daughter’s confirmation, Mr. Jian fell silent.
He nudged his wife, signaling her to speak.
Mrs. Jian opened her mouth, but if everything He Qing said was true, then they really had no reason to object. No—any opposition would just seem unreasonable and petty.
Her face turned red as she struggled to find something to say. Finally, she managed, “What if other people judge you?”
Gaining some confidence, she continued, “Our country has always followed the tradition of men and women marrying each other. If people find out about you two… they’ll laugh at us.”
“Xiaoxing, your father, your brother, and I still have to live in this society.”
Hearing this, Jian Fanxing’s eyes turned red. She wanted to say that she could just stop coming home.
If she never came back, then they could act like she never existed. That way, they wouldn’t have to worry about being mocked or talked about.
But Mr. and Mrs. Jian were her parents. How could she just abandon them? She couldn’t.
Seeing Jian Fanxing on the verge of tears, He Qing’s heart ached.
“Uncle, my relationship with Little Star is not just words. Every necessary formality will be completed. I’ve already researched all the countries where same-s3x marriage is legal. Little Star can choose any country she likes, and I will take her there to get legally married.”
“As for the issue you mentioned, if you don’t mind, you can move to the city. You can visit your hometown whenever you want, but in the city, people are much more accepting of this.”
Before Mr. and Mrs. Jian could respond, Jian Xiaofeng was already excited.
“Mom, Dad! We can stay at Sister’s place! Didn’t she buy a house in the city? If Sister gets married, she’ll be living with Sister He anyway. We can temporarily stay in her house. Once I graduate and start working, I’ll earn money and buy a new house for you two!” Jian Xiaofeng said passionately.
His eyes were filled with dreams—he was an ambitious young man.
Mr. and Mrs. Jian thought his idea was reasonable. After all, they still had some savings of their own.
Without realizing it, they started thinking about their savings instead of objecting to their daughter’s relationship.
When they snapped back to reality, the whole family turned to look at He Qing. At that moment, they wished they could dig a hole and hide in it.
Mrs. Jian looked at He Qing in astonishment.
This young woman seemed soft and gentle, but when she handled things, she was so thorough that she had already used up every possible argument they had against her.
She moved her lips, but she couldn’t think of anything else to say.
He Qing remained silent as well. She sat there patiently, looking calm and confident. But deep down, she was nervous.
Would all of this still not be enough to win their approval?
In the end, Mrs. Jian decided to wait and see.
Even though He Qing had shown sincerity, what if her words were just nice-sounding promises?
“Xiaoxing, bring your suitcase inside,” Mrs. Jian finally said. “Since you’re back, stay for a few days. It’s the busy farming season anyway—help us out.”
Jian Fanxing glanced at He Qing, who gave her a reassuring nod before she went to get her suitcase.
Jian Xiaofeng looked at all the gifts on the ground, especially the ones that excited him the most—the phone, tablet, and laptop. “Mom, what about these?”
Mrs. Jian thought for a moment before saying, “Bring them inside.”
Then she turned to He Qing. “Miss He, you should put away those… expensive documents. Our family may not be wealthy, but Xiaoxing was right to refuse. Even if you two end up together, we are marrying off our daughter, not selling her.”
“As for your relationship… Honey, you decide,” Mrs. Jian said, passing the tough decision to her husband before going to help her son.
“Young lady…”
“Uncle, just call me Xiaoqing,” He Qing interrupted with a smile. “That’s what my dad calls me.”
