My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 54
Jian’s father thought for a moment and didn’t reject the way she addressed him. Seeing He Qing listening so seriously, he felt respected for the first time.
Unconsciously straightening his back, Jian’s father cleared his throat with two coughs and said, “Xiao Qing, as parents, we’re not greedy. We only hope our children can have a safe and happy future. Your sincerity is clear to both me and your auntie, but this is our first time meeting, and we don’t know enough about each other. So, let’s talk about you and Xiaoxing later. Since you’re here, just treat it like a vacation and let Little Star take you around. The countryside may not be as good as the city, but it has its own unique charm. What do you think?”
He Qing felt a slight disappointment, but she quickly hid it.
She understood Jian’s father’s concerns and didn’t blame them for not making a decision right away.
In fact, their hesitation reassured her. It showed that the Jian family wasn’t the kind of people who only cared about money. They might not be wealthy, but Jian’s parents had an abundance of love for their children.
With a proper smile, He Qing answered humbly but firmly, “I’ll listen to you, Uncle.”
And so, He Qing stayed at the Jian house.
Jian Xiaofeng looked around and asked, “Sister He, didn’t you bring any spare clothes?”
“I did. They’re in your sister’s suitcase,” He Qing answered with a gentle smile.
Jian Xiaofeng thought that He Qing looked even more beautiful when she smiled. His face turned red, and he quickly looked away to find his sister.
Jian Fanxing dragged her suitcase into her room. He Qing wanted to help, but when she saw Jian Xiaofeng following in, she decided to stay back and let the siblings catch up.
Jian’s father, after confirming that He Qing agreed to his suggestion, went back to his work.
In the countryside, there wasn’t farmwork every day, but there were always household tasks. Right now, their house was filled with dried corn cobs that needed to be shelled before being sold. Before Jian Fanxing and He Qing arrived, the whole family had been busy with this.
Since the matter of their daughter was temporarily set aside, Jian’s father returned to his work.
Seeing this, He Qing walked over and said, “Uncle, let me help.”
Jian’s father was startled. How could he let He Qing do such work? Her hands were delicate and soft—he had raised a daughter himself and knew how to cherish such hands.
“Xiao Qing, just sit and rest for a while. You must be tired from the drive. Leave this to us. Later, let Xiaoxing take you around the village,” he said, then called into the house, “Xiaoxing, if you’re done unpacking, come out and keep Xiao Qing company.”
“Okay,” Jian Fanxing’s voice came from the room.
He Qing wasn’t upset about being stopped. She continued to smile but didn’t just sit idle. Noticing that Jian’s father was running out of corn to shell, she got up and carried a large bundle of dried corn cobs over to him, not minding the dirt at all.
Jian’s father was stunned for a few seconds. He wanted to stop her, but He Qing spoke first.
“Uncle, I’m strong, and this work isn’t tiring.”
Seeing the bright smile on her face, Jian’s father opened his mouth but didn’t say anything.
This work wasn’t hard, but how many city people would willingly do it?
There were plenty of villagers who had moved to the city after earning money. When they returned, they wouldn’t even step near the fields, complaining that the mud would dirty their shoes. As for farmwork, they wouldn’t lift a finger, looking down on it with disgust.
Jian’s father had thought all city people were like that. But now, he realized that wasn’t true—not He Qing, at least.
When Jian Fanxing came out, she saw He Qing carrying bundles of corn cobs to her father. It was a simple, repetitive task, but she was already sweating, her clean clothes stained and wrinkled. Yet, she kept smiling, full of energy.
Jian Fanxing felt warmth in her heart but also a tinge of pain. She knew He Qing was doing this for her. She immediately stepped forward and took the work from He Qing’s hands.
“Sister, let me do it.”
The bundle of corn cobs was taken away, leaving He Qing’s arms empty. She smiled and said, “It’s fine, it’s not tiring.”
As she spoke, she used her sleeve to wipe the sweat from her forehead. Jian Fanxing, seeing this, quickly stopped her.
“Sister, don’t move.” Then she turned to Jian Xiaofeng. “Mao, bring a basin of water and a towel. The towel is on my bed.”
Holding He Qing’s hand, Jian Fanxing was firm. “Sister, you can’t just wipe with your sleeve. Your clothes are dirty now, but you can change later. You need a clean towel.”
He Qing sighed helplessly. “Little Star, it’s really fine. If my clothes are dirty, I’ll just wash them later.”
“No way,” Jian Fanxing said seriously, leaving no room for argument.
She knew He Qing liked to be clean. Normally, she wouldn’t even wear the same outfit for two days. If her clothes got even a little dirty, she would change immediately.
But now, He Qing’s clothes were covered in dust from the corn, and she even used her sleeve to wipe her sweat.
Jian Fanxing already felt bad for making He Qing come to her home. How could she let her adjust to village life like this?
“Sister, I can’t bear to see you like this,” Jian Fanxing said in a soft voice, only loud enough for He Qing to hear.
He Qing’s heart melted. Leaning closer, she whispered into Jian Fanxing’s ear, “Sometimes, you have to give up something to gain something, Little Star. To have you, I’m willing to give up anything.”
Just then, Jian Xiaofeng returned with the towel and water.
Jian Fanxing placed the basin on the ground, soaked the towel, wrung it out, and carefully wiped He Qing’s forehead.
He Qing kept smiling and cooperated, lowering her head slightly so that Jian Fanxing, who was shorter, could reach her. Her eyes were filled with love.
Jian Xiaofeng thought this scene was incredibly harmonious and smiled unknowingly.
“Hehe, Sister, you and Sister He have such a great relationship.”
At school, Jian Xiaofeng had seen couples in love. But none of them looked as sweet as the two in front of him.
He was glad that the internet had taught him about same-s3x relationships, so he didn’t feel uncomfortable with it at all. Instead, he thought it was beautiful.
And in truth, it was.
Jian’s mother came out of the kitchen and happened to see this scene. She froze for a moment.
So, love between two girls could also be this beautiful?
Gentle, affectionate, filled with love.
He Qing didn’t seem like she was pretending. And she had even decisively divided her assets to give everything to Jian Fanxing. Maybe… she really did love her daughter.
But she needed more time to observe.
Jian’s mother shook off her thoughts and called out, “Xiaoxing, take Xiao Qing to eat something first.”
Since He Qing had asked Jian’s father to call her that, she decided to follow.
“Okay, Mom,” Jian Fanxing replied and led He Qing into her room.
Inside, she handed He Qing some clean clothes. “Sister, take a shower first. There’s hot water in my bathroom. I’ll wait outside.”
“Outside?” He Qing raised an eyebrow. Clearly, she didn’t like that idea.
Jian Fanxing softened. Her sister really couldn’t bear to be apart from her, even for a moment.
“I meant outside the bathroom, in the room.”
Only then did He Qing nod and take the clothes into the bathroom.
Jian Fanxing sat on the bed and scrolled through short videos. Suddenly, a phone rang.
She glanced at it. It was He Qing’s phone.
“Sister, you have a call,” she called.
“Answer it for me,” He Qing responded from the bathroom.
Jian Fanxing didn’t think much and picked up.
“Xiao Qing, I’m almost at the location you sent me. Where is Fanxing’s house? Can you come out and meet me?”
Jian Fanxing froze.
“Uncle He?” Jian Fanxing was so shocked that she couldn’t speak.
Did he mean… he was here too?
Jian Fanxing snapped out of it and quickly walked out of the room with the phone. “Uncle He, I’m holding my sister’s phone. Please send me your location, and I’ll come pick you up right away.”
Realizing she hadn’t told He Qing yet, she stopped at the door and turned back. “Sister, Uncle is here. You take your shower first, I’ll go pick him up.”
Without waiting for He Qing’s response, she left the room and called out to her father, “Dad, come with me quickly!”
The call had already ended. He Jun was now sharing his location with Jian Fanxing on WeChat. She checked it—it seemed he was at the village entrance.
“What happened? Did something go wrong?” Jian’s father saw his daughter’s anxious face and started to panic as well.
Jian’s mother and Jian Xiaofeng also heard the commotion and stepped out of the kitchen.
“Dad, Mom, Xiaofeng—it’s Sister’s father. He’s already at the village entrance, but he doesn’t know the way to our house. I need to pick him up. Dad, come with me.”
Jian Fanxing had met He Jun before, but this was the first time she had ever felt this nervous. After all, this time, He Jun was coming to their home.
Hearing this, Jian’s parents and Jian Xiaofeng also panicked. Their daughter had only been here for a short time, and now her father had followed? What was the He family trying to do?
Jian’s father looked lost and uncertain. He simply followed his daughter’s lead without thinking too much.
Jian’s mother watched them leave, then turned to her son. “Come help me in the kitchen. I’ll cook a couple more dishes.”
No matter what happened between her daughter and He Qing, since an elder was visiting their home, they had to show proper hospitality.
