My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 55
Jian Fanxing glanced at her father. Jian’s father clasped his hands together, rubbing them nervously. Noticing his daughter’s gaze, he forced a smile and asked, “Xiaoxing, what kind of person is Xiao Qing’s father?”
Today was the first time they met their daughter’s partner, and now they were about to meet her partner’s family—her father, no less. Jian’s father felt like he was dreaming.
He could understand why He Qing had come, but for He Qing’s father to follow right after? Jian’s father was full of questions. Why was he here?
Jian Fanxing thought about her first time meeting He Jun. He had been so warm and enthusiastic that she could barely handle it. So, she answered, “Uncle He is a great person, very cheerful. Dad, I think you and Uncle He will get along well.”
Her father was a quiet man, while He Jun was outgoing and talkative. So, as long as her father just listened, they should be able to get along peacefully… right?
“Oh.” Jian’s father responded and didn’t ask further. Well, Xiao Qing was such a well-behaved girl—how could her father be any different?
That thought reassured Jian’s father.
The two quickly reached the village entrance. He Jun’s car was parked there, and he was standing beside it, leaning on his cane while looking around with interest. A slight smile played on his lips, and his sharp eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Maybe because his car stood out too much, by the time Jian Fanxing and her father arrived, a group of elderly villagers had gathered around, pointing at He Jun and his car, chatting excitedly. But no one dared to approach.
Jian Fanxing ran up to He Jun and greeted politely, “Uncle He.”
“Fanxing, you’re here.” He Jun withdrew his gaze and looked at her with affection, his smile widening.
Glancing behind her but not seeing his daughter, He Jun asked curiously, “Where’s Xiao Qing? Why didn’t she come with you?”
Could she have stayed behind to help her in-laws and make a good impression? Hmm, it seemed like Xiao Qing had listened to his advice.
That was his daughter, after all.
He Jun’s smile carried a deep sense of pride and satisfaction.
“Sister is—” Jian Fanxing had just started to explain when He Jun interrupted her.
“No need to say it. I already know.”
Seeing He Jun’s knowing expression, Jian Fanxing froze for three seconds before quickly snapping out of it. She pulled her father forward and introduced, “Uncle He, this is my dad.”
As soon as she finished speaking, He Jun immediately stepped forward with a beaming smile, warmly grasping Jian’s father’s hands. He didn’t mind the bits of corn dust still clinging to them, and he even tossed aside his cane.
“Hello, in-law! I’m He Qing’s father, my name is He Jun.”
I-In-law?! Calling him that already?! Weren’t Little Star and Xiao Qing just starting their relationship? Jian’s father was stunned by He Jun’s enthusiasm, standing frozen while He Jun tightly held his hands.
Jian Fanxing had warned her father about He Jun’s enthusiasm—she had experienced it herself—but even she hadn’t expected him to call her dad “in-law” right away.
Seeing her father completely dazed, Jian Fanxing quickly called out, “Dad.”
“Aye.”
“Aye.”
Both He Jun and Jian’s father turned their heads at the same time, answering in unison.
Jian Fanxing: “???”
She looked between He Jun’s affectionate gaze and her father’s confused expression, feeling so awkward that she wished she could disappear into the ground.
She had meant to call her own father, but if things between her and He Qing worked out, she would eventually call He Jun “Dad” too. So now, she didn’t even dare to say that she wasn’t calling him.
Lowering her head, she mumbled, “Dad, Uncle He, let’s go home first. Mom and the others are waiting.”
He Jun had been feeling quite pleased after hearing her call him “Dad.” But now, hearing her switch back to “Uncle He,” his happiness faded into slight disappointment.
“I think ‘Dad’ sounds much better,” He Jun muttered to himself.
But he quickly adjusted his mood and pulled Jian’s father into his car.
The two men now seemed like old friends, and even in the car, He Jun was still tightly holding onto Jian’s father’s hand.
Jian’s father wanted to pull away, but faced with He Jun’s enthusiasm, he felt too embarrassed to do so. In the end, he just accepted it.
Jian Fanxing naturally climbed into the passenger seat. Since He Jun had only brought his driver, she could sit in the front and also help give directions.
Soon, the car arrived at Jian Fanxing’s house, parking right behind her own.
Jian Fanxing got out first and thoughtfully opened the car door for the two fathers.
He Qing had already finished her shower. Hearing the noise, she and Jian Xiaofeng opened the door.
Seeing He Jun, He Qing calmly greeted, “Dad.”
Compared to how warmly she had greeted Jian’s parents, He Qing’s greeting to He Jun was much cooler, as if their father-daughter relationship wasn’t very close.
Jian’s father whispered to his daughter, “Xiao Qing and her dad…”
“Dad, Sister and Uncle He have a good relationship. Actually, my sister is usually very composed and capable in front of others,” Jian Fanxing replied in a hushed tone.
She had been feeling that He Qing seemed a bit different today, but she hadn’t been able to pinpoint what it was. Now, seeing how He Qing acted in front of He Jun, she suddenly realized—
Her sister forgot to wear her glasses.
When He Qing wore glasses, she had a strong, unapproachable aura—cold and distant. But without them, her smiling face made her seem gentle, polite, and well-mannered.
In front of their parents, He Qing was the latter. But in front of He Jun, she unconsciously reverted to her true self.
Jian’s father nodded thoughtfully. Just then, He Jun called out to He Qing.
“Xiao Qing, I brought some gifts for our in-laws. Go get them from the trunk.”
He Qing nodded and walked to the car. The driver had already opened the trunk, revealing it packed full of gifts. He Jun’s car was larger than He Qing’s, so it held even more than what she had brought earlier.
Jian Fanxing waved at Jian Xiaofeng and walked over to help He Qing, but when they got closer, they were both stunned.
“Whoa…” Jian Xiaofeng blurted out a curse.
Even Jian Fanxing couldn’t help but ask He Qing beside her, “Sister, isn’t this… a bit too much?”
He Qing had brought a lot of stuff too, but at least it was within reason. Her car’s trunk was packed full, but compared to He Jun’s trunk, which was stuffed to the brim without a single gap left, she had to admit defeat.
He Qing withdrew her gaze and shook her head nonchalantly at Jian Fanxing. “Not too much.”
She knew exactly what cars were in He Jun’s garage. The one he drove today had the largest trunk of them all. If he wasn’t at least somewhat mindful of boundaries, he might have just driven a truck over instead.
“Let’s bring everything inside first,” He Qing said, handing Jian Fanxing two of the lighter items before picking up two heavier ones herself and walking ahead.
Jian Xiaofeng glanced at his sister. Seeing her nod at him, he finally reached out to grab some of the things from the car.
Most of what He Jun brought were health supplements, all quite expensive, like ginseng.
Everything was packed in high-end gift boxes. When Jian’s mother heard the noise from the kitchen and came out, she saw He Qing, Jian Fanxing, Jian Xiaofeng, and the driver going back and forth, stacking gifts in the living room like a small mountain.
Before Jian’s mother could react, an excited voice rang out.
“In-laws! Is this Fanxing’s mother? So virtuous!” He Jun praised.
Hearing the word “virtuous,” Jian’s mother turned to the speaker and saw He Jun staring at the spatula in her hand.
So that’s why he thinks she’s virtuous? Her face flushed.
In reality, she only knew how to cook a couple of home-style dishes.
Because of that one word, “virtuous,” He Jun left a deeper impression on her than He Qing did.
But… did he just call them in-laws?
Jian’s mother looked at her husband questioningly.
Jian’s father returned her gaze with a helpless look. He Jun had called them that as soon as they met. His enthusiasm was so overwhelming that he had forgotten to correct him.
But since their daughter was so passionate and her father was too, Jian’s father thought there was no need to overthink it. Let him call them in-laws—after all, the two girls were together, so they would probably be family in the future.
The couple exchanged glances and understood each other’s thoughts.
“Xiaoxing, Mao, clear the table. It’s time to eat,” Jian’s mother instructed her children.
“Jian Lao, don’t just stand there—pour some tea for the guest!” She shot her husband a frustrated look.
Since He Jun was being so enthusiastic, they should at least show some manners too.
To Jian’s mother, hospitality simply meant warmly welcoming guests.
Jian Fanxing was about to clean the table with her brother when He Qing suddenly snatched the cloth from her hands. Seeing her sister’s puzzled look, He Qing whispered, “I’ll do it.”
“Your hands have more important things to do.” She winked, her gaze playful. The meaning of her words instantly became clear to Jian Fanxing.
Her face turned bright red. “Sister, stop talking nonsense!”
She sneaked a glance at Jian Xiaofeng across from her, only to see that he had already covered his ears with both hands. When he noticed her looking at him, he quickly said, “Sister, I didn’t hear anything.”
Did he really not hear? Jian Fanxing eyed her brother’s slightly curved lips—clearly, he had heard and understood exactly what He Qing meant.
“Sister, you’re… setting a bad example for kids,” she stomped her foot in embarrassment and gave up fighting over cleaning duties. Instead, she rushed into the kitchen to help her mother.
Watching his sister’s retreating figure, Jian Xiaofeng chuckled to himself. He turned to He Qing and sighed, “Sister He, you and my sister have such a great relationship.”
“Sister He, are you and my sister really going to get married?”
