My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 57
A wedding… Now that her parents and Uncle He had agreed, it didn’t seem too far away.
Jian Fanxing had never thought about marriage before, let alone imagined what her wedding would be like. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to, but she never had the time—she had been too busy making money.
Now that everything was out in the open, the dinner atmosphere became lively and cheerful.
He Jun started discussing the wedding details with Jian’s parents. Now that their concerns were gone, they spoke freely and enthusiastically.
After dinner, Jian Xiaofeng was left in charge of cleaning up.
Meanwhile, Jian Fanxing pulled He Qing outside.
“Sis, let me show you around our village.” This was the place where she had grown up, and she couldn’t wait to share every part of it with He Qing.
“Okay.” He Qing replied indulgently.
Jian Fanxing took He Qing all around the village, pointing out how things had changed over the years. She spoke with enthusiasm, and He Qing listened just as attentively.
Eventually, they arrived at the center of the village, where a massive tree stood—so big that it would take several people to wrap their arms around its trunk. Jian Fanxing’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
“Sis, did you know? When we were kids, we didn’t have many ways to play, so this tree became our little playground. We used to have races under it.”
“Races?” He Qing raised an eyebrow as she looked up at the towering tree. “You mean… a tree-climbing race?”
Jian Fanxing nodded vigorously. It was a simple game, but back then, it was the most exciting thing for them.
“I was always the fastest. Zhou Yang always tried to beat me, but he never won.” Jian Fanxing grinned as she recalled her victories. Even as an adult, she couldn’t help but feel a little proud.
He Qing chuckled and reached out to ruffle Jian Fanxing’s hair. “Little Star is amazing.”
Then, she asked casually, “By the way, who’s Zhou Yang? A boy or a girl?”
Her tone was completely neutral, but Jian Fanxing suddenly felt guilty for no reason.
“Zhou Yang is… a boy,” she quickly explained. “But he’s already married!”
Jian Fanxing’s big, bright eyes stared at He Qing with sincerity, afraid she might misunderstand.
Seeing how nervous Jian Fanxing was, He Qing didn’t say anything. Instead, she suddenly pulled Jian Fanxing into her arms, holding her tighter and tighter, as if she wanted to keep her locked by her side forever.
So, Sis was jealous! She was definitely upset!
Jian Fanxing sighed. But if the roles were reversed—if He Qing kept talking about some boy she was close to as a child—she would be upset too.
“Sis, I was wrong.” Jian Fanxing admitted her mistake sincerely, still nestled in He Qing’s arms.
“I shouldn’t have mentioned anyone else—boy or girl, no one should be brought up.”
Hearing this, all of He Qing’s frustration instantly disappeared. But as she calmed down, she started reflecting on herself. Since when did she become so petty?
Then again, why should she not be petty when it came to her person?
Accepting her own possessiveness, He Qing deliberately put on a serious face and responded with a simple “hmm.”
Jian Fanxing felt uneasy. It seemed like He Qing had accepted her apology, but she still didn’t look entirely pleased.
Just as she was about to say something else, her phone rang.
It was Lu Yao.
The moment the call connected, Lu Yao wailed, “Sis, I’m doomed!”
Jian Fanxing: “???”
“Yaoyao, what happened?” she asked, confused.
There was a long pause before Lu Yao finally spoke.
“I drank last night. Got really drunk. And then… I slept with someone.”
“…A woman.” Lu Yao struggled to say.
She had slept with Gu Xiao. She actually slept with Gu Xiao!
Sure, she had thought about it before—about sleeping with Gu Xiao so she couldn’t interfere with Jian Fanxing’s happiness anymore. But it was always just a thought—she had never dared to act on it.
But last night, after confessing to a guy she liked and getting rejected, she had gone to a bar to drink away her sadness. She got completely wasted, and she didn’t even know when Gu Xiao showed up. All she knew was that when she sobered up, she was lying in bed with Gu Xiao, both of them covered in red marks.
Panicked, she had run away immediately.
Lu Yao had been hiding for a long time, terrified of running into Gu Xiao. She had held out as long as she could, but in the end, she couldn’t handle it alone anymore and decided to call Jian Fanxing.
“You slept with a woman?” Jian Fanxing was shocked. “Yaoyao, aren’t you into men?”
If Lu Yao had slept with a man, Jian Fanxing wouldn’t have been too surprised. Lu Yao had always been clear about her orientation. But why a woman?
Lu Yao grabbed her hair in frustration, her brows furrowed tightly. Her voice was filled with irritation. “I don’t know either! I mean, I’m a woman, and I like men, so why did I suddenly feel… desire for a woman?”
“Fanxing, what should I do? Should I take responsibility for her? I mean, sure, women can’t get pregnant from this, but she still gave herself to me… But if my mom finds out I slept with a woman and even want to take responsibility, she’ll kill me, won’t she?” Lu Yao sounded like she was asking Jian Fanxing, but she was mostly questioning herself.
From childhood, Lu Yao had been taught to take responsibility for her actions. But running away like this? That was anything but responsible.
Hearing this, Jian Fanxing frowned as well. If Lu Yao had slept with the woman because she liked her, she would have advised her to take responsibility. But that wasn’t the case. She had been using the woman as an outlet to vent her frustration after being rejected. If she told her to take responsibility now, wouldn’t that just be forcing a couple together randomly? But if she didn’t take responsibility, would she really just treat it as a one-night stand?
“Yaoyao, I don’t know how to help you with this,” Jian Fanxing sighed.
“But… who is the woman? Do I know her?” she asked.
“You… probably do,” Lu Yao stammered after a long pause.
“Forget it, I’ll figure this out myself. I won’t bother you with it,” Lu Yao said.
“Oh, by the way, I’m scared to go back to my place right now. What if she’s still there, waiting for an explanation? I’d rather not deal with that yet. Can I crash at your place for a few days? I won’t be interrupting your lovey-dovey time with He Qing, right?”
Jian Fanxing’s face darkened at Lu Yao’s teasing.
She was just panicking a moment ago, and now she had the energy to joke?
Still, since Lu Yao was her best friend, Jian Fanxing didn’t refuse.
“I’m back in my hometown with my sister. You can stay at my place. I’ll send you the door code on WeChat,” Jian Fanxing said.
“Hometown? You brought Miss He to your hometown?” Lu Yao was silent for a few seconds before suddenly exclaiming in shock.
“Yeah.”
Hearing this confirmed, Lu Yao immediately asked, “How did it go? Your parents didn’t throw her out, did they?”
Regarding Jian Fanxing and He Qing’s relationship, Lu Yao had agreed with Jian Fanxing’s approach—keeping it a secret from her family while gradually dropping hints to test their reaction. Once they were ready to accept it, she would tell them the truth.
But what was going on now?
How did He Qing suddenly end up meeting her family?
Lu Yao was completely confused. She had only been away from Jian Fanxing for a couple of days, and suddenly, so much had happened.
“This is… a long story. I’ll tell you when I get back,” Jian Fanxing said, pressing her lips together. “But right now, my parents are already discussing wedding plans with Uncle He.”
Her eyes sparkled with joy. She could finally share her happiness openly.
She could finally celebrate with her best friend.
Lu Yao’s mind was in chaos. So, not only was President He there, but even her father was involved? And the parents, who were expected to strongly oppose the relationship, were now discussing marriage?!
Lu Yao felt like she had missed way too much in just a short time.
Her head was still spinning, but she was genuinely happy for her friend.
“Fanxing, congratulations! When’s the wedding? I better be on the bridesmaids’ list!” Lu Yao said, grinning.
As for her own troubles? She shoved them to the back of her mind for now.
“Of course.”
“But your situation…” Jian Fanxing was still worried about Lu Yao’s unexpected dilemma.
“Oh, don’t worry about me! Focus on your wedding preparations. You’ve got enough on your plate. I’ll let you go for now,” Lu Yao said, then hung up before Jian Fanxing could respond.
Jian Fanxing looked at the disconnected call and hesitated for a moment before deciding not to call back. Instead, she simply sent Lu Yao her house’s door code.
As she walked home with He Qing, she curiously asked, “Sis, do you think Yaoyao is in trouble?”
“Trouble? That depends. It depends on whether the other person cares or not.”
“Sigh…” Jian Fanxing sighed. “Yaoyao got herself into this mess because of alcohol. I warned her so many times not to drink so much, but she never listens. And now, look—she drank herself into trouble!”
Even though Lu Yao had joked about it, Jian Fanxing was still worried about her best friend.
He Qing, however, saw things differently.
“Maybe it’s not trouble at all.”
“Huh?” Jian Fanxing looked up at He Qing, blinking in confusion.
He Qing smiled faintly. “Even if it was just a drunken mistake, and a moment of impulse led to a one-night stand… if the person wasn’t someone Lu Yao found attractive, she probably wouldn’t have acted on that impulse in the first place.”
To He Qing, even impulsive actions stemmed from some level of attraction—it was just a matter of whether that attraction was fleeting or something deeper.
“Little Star, I think Lu Yao’s right. We should focus on planning our wedding. Dad and Uncle He have probably worked out most of the details by now.” They had been out for over an hour, and knowing her dad, he had probably even started discussing how many kids they should have.
“Little Star, let’s go home.”
