My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 6
So, she only thought it was too expensive? He Qing felt the knot in her heart loosen.
“Do you like it?” He Qing asked.
“Yes, I do! My new neighbor has great taste. You know what? The bracelet she gave me is the one from UK that I told you about before!”
Even through text, He Qing could feel Jian Fanxing’s happiness.
A small smile appeared on He Qing’s lips as she replied, “Since you like it, then keep it.”
“As for a return gift… I think no matter what you choose, she will like it.”
This was the first gift Jian Fanxing had given her, and He Qing was already thinking about the perfect place to keep it in her house.
“Really?” Jian Fanxing wasn’t as confident as He Qing, but since her “sister” said so, she decided to trust her.
Jian Fanxing said goodnight at the right time. Even though she really wanted to keep chatting all night, she knew her “sister” had been busy at work during the day and must be tired. She wanted to be thoughtful and take care of her. She couldn’t be too clingy—she had to let her rest early.
Looking at Jian Fanxing’s goodnight message, He Qing gently rubbed her finger over the screen. She stared at it for a long time before whispering, “If only you could say goodnight to me in person, right by my ear.”
They had known each other for so long. They had been in a relationship for years. He Qing had thought about meeting Jian Fanxing in person many times, but every time she wanted to bring it up, she held back.
She was afraid.
Yes, the sharp and decisive CEO of the He Group, who ruled the business world with confidence, was actually a coward when it came to love.
She had deep insecurities. She feared that if Jian Fanxing saw her in person, she wouldn’t be satisfied. Then they would break up and become strangers.
So, she never suggested meeting up. Even when Jian Fanxing brought it up, she always found a way to avoid the topic.
Moving in as Jian Fanxing’s new neighbor was a decision she had struggled with for a long time before finally taking a small step forward.
And she did it without telling Jian Fanxing.
The one truly afraid of “fading under the light,” as Lu Feng once said, was her.
Jian Fanxing put down her phone, and the smile on her face returned to normal. Only then did Lu Yao plop down beside her, looking full of curiosity.
“Fanxing, what do you think of your new neighbor?” Lu Yao asked.
“What do you mean?” Jian Fanxing blinked, not quite understanding her friend’s question.
“I mean… how do you feel about her? She’s so beautiful—don’t you feel even a little bit attracted to her?” Lu Yao said. Even though she wasn’t into women, she thought He Qing was stunning. If even she couldn’t help but take a second look, how could Jian Fanxing, who actually liked women, not be affected?
“No… no feelings at all.” Jian Fanxing quickly replied as soon as Lu Yao finished speaking.
But realizing she sounded too eager, which might make it seem suspicious, she cleared her throat and emphasized, “Yao Yao, I have a girlfriend. My relationship with her is very good, so I would never be attracted to another woman.”
“Yes, I would never be attracted to another woman,” Jian Fanxing repeated.
Lu Yao smirked. “Are you telling me that or telling yourself?”
Jian Fanxing got annoyed and huffed, “I already have a girlfriend!” Then she turned and walked into her bedroom.
Lu Yao watched her leave and couldn’t help but think that whether Jian Fanxing admitted it or not, she definitely had some feelings for their neighbor. But she was a good person and knew it was wrong to have feelings for someone else, so she chose to suppress them.
As for their new neighbor, Lu Yao’s instincts told her that woman was definitely not just being friendly.
Maybe she’d have a chance to play matchmaker soon.
Early the next morning, someone knocked on Jian Fanxing’s door.
“Yao Yao, what are you doing?” Jian Fanxing rubbed her eyes and opened the door, her voice still a little groggy from sleep.
“What do you mean? Did you forget? You need to buy a return gift for your neighbor!” Lu Yao reminded her.
Seeing how excited Lu Yao was, it almost seemed like she was the one buying the gift.
Jian Fanxing thought for a moment. That was true. “Alright, wait for me. I need to send a message to my sister first.”
She picked up her phone and saw that He Qing had already sent her a good morning text.
Jian Fanxing grinned and typed back, “Good morning, sister! Don’t forget to eat breakfast! I’m going to the mall with Yao Yao today to pick out a gift for my neighbor, so I won’t bother you for now. I’ll talk to you later! Mwah~”
Blushing slightly, she added a kiss emoji at the end before setting her phone down and heading to the bathroom to wash up.
Meanwhile, in the apartment across from hers, He Qing had the day off, so she hadn’t gone to work early.
Sending Jian Fanxing a good morning message had become a daily habit. When she saw the reply, she smiled and texted back, “Okay, you remember to eat breakfast too.”
After putting her phone down, He Qing paused for a few seconds, then walked into her room to pick out an outfit.
From what she knew about Jian Fanxing, she was probably just getting out of bed when she sent that message. It would take her about an hour to wash up and do her makeup—just enough time for He Qing to get ready herself.
Once she finished getting dressed, He Qing sat on the couch closest to the door. The old apartment had poor soundproofing, so if she sat there, she could clearly hear when the door across the hall opened.
Not long after she sat down, she heard the sound of a door opening. Quickly, she stood up and opened her own door.
Hearing another door open, Jian Fanxing instinctively looked up and met He Qing’s gaze.
“Oh? Miss He, are you heading out too?” Lu Yao asked.
“Too?”
Lu Yao nodded. “Yes, Fanxing and I are going to the mall to buy a—”
“Just some things,” Jian Fanxing quickly interrupted before Lu Yao could say too much, covering her mouth.
“Oh,” He Qing responded, knowing full well that Jian Fanxing was going to buy her a gift.
A small smile tugged at her lips. “I was planning to go out too. And since I’m alone, can I join you?”
She looked directly at Jian Fanxing, her eyes filled with anticipation.
He Qing had beautiful eyes—a deep shade of blue, mysterious and mesmerizing.
Jian Fanxing suddenly realized that He Qing wasn’t wearing glasses today.
When she wore glasses, she gave off a strong and intimidating aura—attractive but distant, like a flower that could only be admired from afar. But now, without the glasses, she was simply stunning.
Men have no resistance to beautiful women. The same goes for women.
Who could refuse such a gorgeous woman?
Certainly not Lu Yao.
And why would she?
Without giving Jian Fanxing a chance to say no, Lu Yao immediately answered, “Of course! Since you’re alone, you can come with us!”
Jian Fanxing opened her mouth to protest but, in the end, chose to stay silent to save face.
He Qing was satisfied. She locked her door and walked downstairs with them.
“Where are we going? I have a car,” He Qing said, looking at Jian Fanxing.
Feeling the heat of her gaze, Jian Fanxing clutched her purse tighter and turned to Lu Yao. “Yao Yao, where should we go?”
Lu Yao thought for a moment. “Since we have a car, let’s go to HS Mall. I heard it’s huge and has everything.”
Jian Fanxing nodded.
“Alright, HS it is,” He Qing agreed.
And with that, their day together began.
Because it was an old neighborhood, there was no parking garage. Everyone parked their cars along the roadside, and He Qing’s car was no different.
Her car, like her personality, was low-key. It was a black Mercedes sedan, looking just like any other Mercedes on the street.
He Qing opened the driver’s side door and got in. Jian Fanxing reached out to open the backseat door, ready to get in, but Lu Yao stopped her and pushed her toward the front passenger seat.
“Fanxing, you sit in the front! Let me enjoy the VIP treatment in the back,” Lu Yao said with a grin.
Before Jian Fanxing could react, Lu Yao quickly climbed into the backseat and shut the door with a loud click.
Jian Fanxing stood outside for a moment, hesitating, but eventually opened the front passenger door and got in.
Seeing her sit in the front seat, He Qing was a little surprised. She glanced at Lu Yao, who was winking at her.
That look… was she trying to set her up with Little Star?
Understanding Lu Yao’s intention, He Qing shifted her gaze back to Jian Fanxing, who was sitting beside her, and reminded her, “Seatbelt.”
“Oh, right!” Jian Fanxing straightened up and blinked. She had completely forgotten about that. She hurried to fasten it.
But for some reason, the more she wanted to do it quickly, the more she failed. She struggled for a while but still couldn’t get the seatbelt to buckle properly.
“I’ll help you,” He Qing said, noticing her flustered expression.
As she spoke, He Qing leaned toward Jian Fanxing. Her hand was just about to touch Jian Fanxing’s when Fanxing quickly pulled away.
“I can do it myself!” she said nervously.
For some reason, as He Qing got closer, Jian Fanxing’s voice trembled slightly.
Hearing the shaky tone, He Qing chuckled softly, then swiftly fastened the seatbelt for her. Finally, she replied, “But I wanted to help you.”
Jian Fanxing: “……”
Why did that sound kind of… flirty?
Normally, she wouldn’t be so sensitive, but maybe because her new neighbor’s name and voice were so similar to her girlfriend’s, she couldn’t help but overthink everything He Qing did or said.
Biting her lip, Jian Fanxing’s eyes flashed with determination as she said, “Actually… I have a girlfriend.”
