My Online Lover Lives Next Door (GL) - Chapter 7
“Really?” Jian Fanxing’s direct statement didn’t stir any special reaction from He Qing. After all, she already knew that the “girlfriend” Jian Fanxing was talking about was actually herself.
Jian Fanxing hadn’t expected He Qing to react like this… as if she didn’t care at all?
Even Lu Yao, sitting in the back, was momentarily stunned. When Jian Fanxing mentioned having a girlfriend, Lu Yao had felt frustrated on her friend’s behalf. In her opinion, He Qing—this wealthy and beautiful neighbor—was far better than the online girlfriend who was nothing more than a name and a voice. Yet, Jian Fanxing seemed completely blind to it and had chosen to reject such an outstanding person for the sake of an online romance.
But since the words were already spoken, there was no taking them back. Even though Lu Yao was anxious, she had to accept the reality that this wealthy and beautiful neighbor would soon draw a clear line between herself and her friend.
However, she never expected He Qing’s reaction to be so indifferent.
For a moment, the car fell into complete silence, making the atmosphere feel slightly awkward.
Jian Fanxing stole a glance at He Qing. Seeing her focused on driving, she hesitated for a long time before finally asking, “Aren’t you… curious?”
“Curious about what? Your girlfriend?” He Qing glanced at Jian Fanxing briefly. Noticing the lingering surprise on her face, she realized that her reaction might have been a bit too natural. So, she added, “You sound like you’re very close. Can you tell me what kind of person she is?”
At the mention of her girlfriend, Jian Fanxing immediately perked up.
“My girlfriend is very gentle and considerate.”
Gentle and considerate? He Qing instinctively compared these words to herself. Gentle? People at her company had once given her the nickname “Demon King.” That title was nowhere near gentle. As for considerate? She had always focused only on results, never caring about the process. If someone failed to meet expectations, she never hesitated to fire them. People often described her as cold-hearted.
He Qing began to doubt that Jian Fanxing was talking about her.
“For example?”
“We’ve been dating for years, and she’s never lost her temper at me. She always speaks softly and is incredibly patient.” Especially when comforting me.
“I’m forgetful. Sometimes I completely forget things that I just thought of, even important ones. But my girlfriend remembers everything and always prepares in advance for me. When I’m with her, I feel like I don’t even need to use my brain. Hehe.”
Watching the sweet smile on Jian Fanxing’s face, He Qing couldn’t help but smile too.
What Jian Fanxing didn’t know was that the reason He Qing was always gentle with her was because, after a long day of stress and work, seeing Jian Fanxing’s messages and hearing her voice was the only thing that truly relaxed her. In that moment, she was at her most comfortable, and naturally, she was gentle.
As for being considerate, He Qing had always planned thoroughly in her work to prevent unexpected issues. She was simply applying the same habit to her relationship with Jian Fanxing.
To her, these were just minor efforts. Yet, to Jian Fanxing, they had left such a deep impression?
He Qing slightly parted her lips. She wanted to tell Jian Fanxing that she wasn’t as great as she imagined. But just as the words reached her lips, she realized—Jian Fanxing didn’t know that her online girlfriend and her “new neighbor” were actually the same person.
Or rather… a pursuer?
She should tell Jian Fanxing the truth.
Then, Jian Fanxing wouldn’t avoid her anymore. She could openly stay by her side, share every morning and night with her, and greet her in person instead of through cold text messages.
She could say “Good morning,” “Good afternoon,” and “Good night” right by her ear instead of through a screen.
Feeling her heart beating faster, He Qing found herself looking forward to the moment when their online relationship would become real.
“Actually, I—” He Qing gathered her courage, but before she could finish, Lu Yao interrupted from the back seat.
“Chu, don’t take this the wrong way, but your so-called girlfriend sounds too good to be true,” Lu Yao said.
“Everyone has emotions and daily struggles. If she always seems so perfect, don’t you think it’s a bit suspicious?” Seeing that Jian Fanxing wanted to argue, Lu Yao quickly added, “Of course, I’m talking about the worst-case scenario.”
“But since this is an online relationship, you have to consider the possibility that she might be lying to you.”
“What would you do then?”
What would you do?
Hearing this question, He Qing’s heart, which had just been filled with courage, suddenly sank. She kept her focus on the road, but the slight twitch of her ears betrayed her nervousness. She was waiting for Jian Fanxing’s answer.
Although Lu Yao’s words were harsh, Jian Fanxing knew she was speaking out of concern. Even though this wasn’t the best time to bring it up (especially with He Qing present), she couldn’t hold it against her.
For the first time, Jian Fanxing seriously considered Lu Yao’s question. The car fell silent again.
After a long pause, Jian Fanxing finally spoke.
“I would break up.”
He Qing’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. Break up? Jian Fanxing said that if she ever found out she was being deceived, she would end the relationship?
The thought of losing Jian Fanxing made He Qing’s face turn slightly pale.
She couldn’t accept that outcome.
Meanwhile, Lu Yao was satisfied with Jian Fanxing’s response.
“Good, so you’re not completely blinded by love. That makes me feel relieved.” She relaxed, even taking a moment to enjoy the view outside the window.
Lu Yao was in a good mood, but He Qing certainly wasn’t.
From the moment Jian Fanxing said, “I would break up,” He Qing became noticeably quiet.
She didn’t even try to argue against Jian Fanxing’s decision.
Lu Yao found it strange. Shouldn’t He Qing be happy? After all, wasn’t she trying to pursue Jian Fanxing?
Jian Fanxing also thought He Qing’s reaction was odd, but since this was the outcome she wanted, she didn’t say anything.
The black Mercedes pulled into a mall parking garage. The three of them took the elevator up to the second floor. The first floor was just a supermarket, so they skipped it and started browsing from the second floor.
Lu Yao and Jian Fanxing linked arms while He Qing followed slightly behind, her gaze occasionally flickering to their intertwined arms.
Before long, Jian Fanxing and Lu Yao stepped into a jewelry store.
Since He Qing had given her a jewelry gift as a welcome present, Jian Fanxing decided to return the gesture with a similar gift.
He Qing lagged behind for a moment and glanced at the store sign—HCKE, a mid-range jewelry brand under He Corporation.
Of course, “mid-range” only applied to A City’s elite class. For most people, the prices were still quite high.
A hint of jealousy flashed in He Qing’s eyes. Jian Fanxing was willing to buy a gift from this store for a “new neighbor”?
She was usually so frugal.
And yet, as her girlfriend, He Qing had never received a gift from her before. Not because Jian Fanxing hadn’t wanted to, but because He Qing had always refused. But even so, shouldn’t she be the first person Jian Fanxing ever bought a gift for?
“He Qing, come look at this bracelet Chu picked out!” Lu Yao called.
Snapping out of her thoughts, He Qing walked into the store.
She found it amusing. She had actually been jealous of herself.
“He Qing, what do you think? Does Chu have good taste?” Lu Yao asked, holding out the bracelet for her to see.
He Qing glanced at it before turning to Jian Fanxing. “You picked this?”
To be honest, He Qing had seen countless pieces of jewelry, and her standards were high. While the bracelet was nice, it wasn’t anything extraordinary.
But if Jian Fanxing had personally chosen it for her, then it was special.
Jian Fanxing nodded. “It’s for you—a thank-you gift.”
He Qing’s lips curled into a smile. “Oh, it’s beautiful.”
Then she added, “Because you picked it.”
The sales assistant smiled. “Miss, this bracelet costs 16,690 yuan. Will you be paying by card or WeChat?”
16,690 yuan?
Jian Fanxing’s heart ached. That was expensive!
But she had already spoken. Backing out now would be embarrassing.
Just as she reluctantly pulled out her card, He Qing stopped her.
“If I remember correctly, this bracelet is currently part of a big promotion, right?”
