My Roommate Is a Dirty Talker (GL) - Chapter 18
Â
On the way home, Shen Weixiao kept wondering how she had offended the goddess, but even as she stood at her doorstep, she remained utterly baffled.
Â
Huh? Shen Weixiao patted her pockets, suddenly stopping in her tracks. Her face panicked as she mouthed to Shi Xuan, I think I forgot my keys.
Â
Shi Xuan’s expression stiffened for a moment before she forced a smile. What a coincidence, me too.
Â
A few gusts of cold wind whistled through the cracks in the stairwell window, making them shiver. Seeing Shen Weixiao’s bewildered expression, Shi Xuan reluctantly pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts. Reaching the end, she leaned against the wall with a sigh. I don’t have Xinran’s number. You’ll have to ask her when she’ll be back.
Â
Shen Weixiao dialed repeatedly, but the call went unanswered. Just as their hopes began to fade, Mu Xinran suddenly called back. Hello, Weixiao? I’m helping my cousin move into her apartment. What’s up?
Â
Um… well… we forgot our keys, Shen Weixiao said, carefully choosing her words to urge Mu Xinran to hurry home. Her other arm unconsciously tugged at her collar. Is it far from you? Could you come home early?
Â
Ah! Mu Xinran’s voice rose several decibels, and she said somewhat apologetically, I see. But I won’t make it home in time for the subway now. You guys… um, how about this? Call my boyfriend and ask him to bring the keys over. We came here on short notice this afternoon, so he should still be at school.
Â
Shen Weixiao glanced awkwardly at Shi Xuan, then pleaded with a frown, Could you… maybe ask him for us? She felt strange calling a guy she barely knew. Hearing Mu Xinran’s reply, Shen Weixiao hung up excitedly.
Â
Xinran said she’ll check if her boyfriend’s at school. If he is, he’ll bring the keys over!
Â
Shi Xuan hummed in acknowledgment, then shifted her shoulders and asked, Why is her boyfriend still living at school?
Â
Shen Weixiao simply repeated Mu Xinran’s explanation from the phone call. Apparently, Mu Xinran had asked Wang Qiao to stay at school temporarily so her cousin could squeeze in with her. Unexpectedly, Deng Ya had found her own place that afternoon—it was a bit far, but the rent and environment were decent, so the two of them had rushed over to check it out and move in.
Â
She said it was already late by the time she finished settling in, so she decided to stay there for the night, Shen Weixiao said, her voice tinged with frustration. Noticing Shi Xuan’s profile looking particularly refined in the night’s dim light, she sidled closer, her arm around Shi Xuan’s. With a hint of flattery, she reached out a finger. Sister Xuan, you’re not still mad at me, are you?
Â
Shi Xuan shifted away slightly, feigning annoyance. Wanting to tease Shen Weixiao, she kept a straight face and whispered, I never knew you had such… peculiar tastes. What if that girl had seen you?
Â
Huh? Peculiar tastes? What peculiar tastes? Shen Weixiao was utterly bewildered, her mind racing as she pressed Shi Xuan for answers. Just then, Mu Xinran called back. Weixiao, you and Shi Xuan will have to figure something out for tonight. Wang Qiao went home today and won’t be back until tomorrow afternoon. I’m so sorry.
Â
The moment Shen Weixiao hung up, tears welled up in her eyes. Sister Xuan, we really have nowhere to go tonight.
Â
What’s there to be afraid of? Shi Xuan patted her pockets, relieved. Let’s stay at a hotel. I have my ID and wallet.
Â
Stay at a hotel, Shen Weixiao thought, the words carrying an unsettling, almost sinister weight.
Â
How could you forget your keys when you brought your ID and wallet? Shen Weixiao muttered half in complaint and half in genuine confusion the entire way. A particularly audacious thought suddenly occurred to her What if the goddess actually had her keys but was pretending not to in order to trick me into going to a hotel?
Â
Whoa, my imagination’s running wild! Shen Weixiao felt a wave of self-consciousness wash over her, quickening her pace to keep up. Shi Xuan explained, I usually carry them, but I changed clothes after dinner and forgot to grab them.
Â
Shen Weixiao’s steps faltered, nearly causing her to bump into Shi Xuan. Then why didn’t you bring your keys today? You’re usually like a walking treasure chest!
Â
Ah, that… Shen Weixiao scratched her head. She had indeed rushed out in a hurry. Plus, Shi Xuan had mentioned that carrying a backpack on the subway would be a hassle, so she abandoned the idea. She hadn’t realized she’d also forgotten the keys that were usually in her bag.
Â
Oh no! I just remembered I don’t have my ID! Shen Weixiao froze in place, realizing that hotels now require identification. My keys and ID are both in my backpack… and I only have a little over a hundred yuan on me. Is that enough?
Â
Shi Xuan stood on the steps, looking down at the pitiful Shen Weixiao. She couldn’t resist reaching out and pinching Shen Weixiao’s soft cheek. You’re so stubborn. Just relax and come inside with me.
Â
Who’s stubborn? Shen Weixiao thought, though she was secretly thrilled to be pinched by her goddess’s beautiful hand. Grinning foolishly, she sat down in the nearby seat. Shi Xuan quickly finished the check-in procedures and waved for her to come upstairs. Since they were on the fourth floor, they took the elevator.
Â
The security camera in the hallway glowed red. Shen Weixiao wiggled her fingers at the framed painting on the wall, but before she could do more than fidget, Shi Xuan pulled her into the room. You’re such a child, Shi Xuan chided. You’re too old for these silly games.
Â
Shen Weixiao sat down obediently. The standard room had two beds, one for each of them. After washing up, Shen Weixiao sat cross-legged on her bed, reviewing the draft she’d saved earlier, hoping to find inspiration to continue writing. Shi Xuan suddenly appeared behind her, her damp hair brushing against Shen Weixiao’s neck. Is this the draft of your new story? Does that mean I get a sneak peek? Hmm?
Â
You still haven’t told me who you are, Shen Weixiao said, clutching her phone protectively. I’m not showing you anything.
Â
Shi Xuan nonchalantly turned and walked away. Soon, the sound of a hairdryer filled the bathroom. Shen Weixiao’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to the blurred silhouette of beautiful legs behind the frosted glass wall. Setting down her phone, she suddenly regretted having been so engrossed in her work earlier, completely oblivious to the goddess taking a shower.
Â
Pfft! Shen Weixiao’s mind went blank for a moment. Oh my god, what was I even thinking just now? I’m acting like a pervert! The more she lowered her head in embarrassment, the more she couldn’t resist sneaking glances in that direction. Before long, she lost all motivation to write and simply flopped onto her pillow, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Â
What did the goddess mean by calling my habits strange? Did I do something perverted? Shen Weixiao’s face flushed at the thought. Ugh, I hate people who only tell half the story! So annoying!
Â
She shifted from lying on her stomach to her side, then flat on her back, her mind racing with questions. Finally, she climbed out of bed, determined to confront Shi Xuan directly. Just as she stood up, Shi Xuan emerged from the bathroom with her hair tied up. The two collided, Shen Weixiao, being half a head shorter, immediately bumped her forehead into Shi Xuan’s nose.
Â
Ouch!
