My Roommate Is a Dirty Talker (GL) - Chapter 22
Wang Qiao always felt a bit carsick on long drives. After talking to Mu Xinran for a while, he started feeling unwell, so he put away his phone and leaned back in his seat to rest. Mu Xinran, however, couldn’t control her temper. Seeing that Wang Qiao didn’t respond to her tantrum, she stubbornly refused to eat dinner.
Â
Outside, Shi Xuan and Shen Weixiao were chatting and laughing loudly over dinner. Through the thin wall, Mu Xinran couldn’t help but feel that even though she had a boyfriend, she was worse off than someone with a good roommate. After a moment’s thought, she realized how strange that sounded. Calming down, she opened the door, grabbed a few apples, and took a bite as she reentered the room.
Â
Shen Weixiao glanced at Mu Xinran and whispered to Shi Xuan, Xinran seems a bit upset.
Â
Shi Xuan retorted, Say another word, and I’ll be the next one upset.
Â
Shen Weixiao obediently fell silent.
Â
She actually believed that when traveling, especially when sharing a roof with others, being willing to share made things much easier. But Shi Xuan refused to budge, so she had no choice but to go along. After sipping her soup, the lingering aroma still on her palate, Shen Weixiao pondered again. Perhaps she was overthinking things. How could Xinran possibly be angry over something as trivial as a meal?
Mu Xinran wasn’t angry just about the meal, but she couldn’t quite articulate why.
Â
Hey, Xiaoya, what are you up to? Mu Xinran dialed Deng Ya’s number, her voice heavy with disappointment, as if she needed to vent to someone immediately.
Â
Deng Ya listened quietly on the other end, torn between telling her cousin the truth and offering comfort. After a moment’s hesitation, she chose the latter. Maybe he’s just been really busy lately. Seeing others get attention probably made you feel a bit left out. Don’t assume Wang Qiao doesn’t care about you. Work pressure is intense these days—look how much trouble I’m having finding an apartment, let alone all the stress at the office.
Â
Mu Xinran seemed to absorb some of Deng Ya’s words. Her voice trailed off, and after a few more comforting remarks, Deng Ya ended the call.
Â
As for agreeing to go out with her cousin on the weekend, Deng Ya now felt she had acted impulsively.
Â
The first weekend after starting work should be spent sleeping in and relaxing, not climbing a mountain before dawn to visit Bao Fu Temple. Deng Ya frowned, already feeling exhausted at the thought.
Mu Xinran felt somewhat calmer after Deng Ya’s comforting words. She sighed and sat up in bed, continuing to watch the variety show. Despite the program’s attempts at humor, she couldn’t bring herself to laugh. She and Wang Qiao had been together for three years since meeting as freshmen, but as graduation approached, they faced drastically different choices. She hesitated to share her relationship troubles with her family, confiding only in Deng Ya, her childhood best friend and cousin.
Â
Deng Ya, though two months younger, possessed remarkable self-assurance.
Â
Mu Xinran’s mind raced with conflicting thoughts. She wondered if her period was making her overthink.
Â
Suddenly, a soft click came from outside, as if someone had left the apartment.
Â
Mu Xinran lazily got up and sat on the sofa. Her stomach was already churning with discomfort, forcing her to order takeout.
Â
Shen Weixiao emerged from her room to wash dishes. Noticing Mu Xinran sitting glumly on the sofa, she hesitated before joining her, settling down beside her without a word and burying herself in her phone, chatting with her online friend.
Â
Tantan Honey, piracy is rampant lately. Your VIP chapters are everywhere!
Chunxiao Oh, well, what can you do? Green Station’s anti-piracy measures have always been terrible. Sigh, guess we’ll just have to leave it to fate.
Â
Tantan How have your subscriptions been lately?
Â
Chunxiao Not great. I haven’t had time to check. You wouldn’t believe how busy I’ve been with work—it’s killing me!
Â
Tantan …Oh.
Â
Chunxiao Hey… why are you acting so weird today? What’s really going on? Spill the beans!
Â
Tantan Cups face Nothing much, just that this baby is getting married! I was wondering if you’ve saved up any red envelopes.
Â
Chunxiao Aaaaaah! Oh my god, you’re getting married?! After all this time, I’ve finally married you off, my old friend! Tell me, what does your Little Gong do?
Â
Tantan Hey, hey! I’m the Gong here, okay?
Â
Shen Weixiao was genuinely happy for her friend. She immediately demanded to see the wedding photos, and Tantan didn’t hesitate to send over a dozen. Each one was a masterpiece of traditional Chinese aesthetics moonlit nights, gentle breezes, candlelit bridal chambers, phoenix coronets and embroidered robes, and the ritual of exchanging nuptial cups. They were simply breathtakingly beautiful.
Â
As Shen Weixiao was admiring the large-format photos, a notification popped up on her phone
Â
Tantan Chunxiao, have you been avoiding the forums lately?
The forum? Oh, that’s Green Station’s own forum, where various Great Gods have created their own sections. The most popular section is a constant stream of news which Great God has joined, which pink-haired newbie is about to blow up, which newcomer on the Golden List is incredibly OP, and so on. There’s also an endless flow of Image Shops, Review Shops, Confessionals, Chicken Soup posts, and occasional self-promotions from aspiring newcomers, which the Double Eyelids dutifully record.
Â
But with all the forum’s powerful features, if an author suddenly mentions it, the first thought that comes to mind is Someone’s getting torn apart.
Â
Tan Xin’s serious tone made Shen Weixiao’s heart race. What’s happened on the forum? Any major news lately?
Â
Chunxiao Someone’s built a massive blessing thread for you on the forum, right?Â
Â
Tan Xin Don’t joke… I’m being serious.
Â
Chunxiao SmilingSo, what’s actually going on…?
Â
An ominous premonition slowly crept into Shen Weixiao’s heart. After a long pause, Tan Xin suddenly sent a massive batch of screenshots. They contained a well-meaning netizen’s elaborate argument proving that Lao Xue and the author Chunmian Bujuexiao were the same person, citing everything from changes in video style and writing style to matching IP addresses.
Â
Chunmian Holy sh1t! Is this person deliberately stirring up trouble? Why didn’t they screenshot my IP when I was in W City? Who did I even piss off?
Tantan Here’s the link Check out the comments below. The mood is turning ugly.
Â
Shen Weixiao quickly clicked through several pages. Most of the readers were just speculating about the truth, but even some veteran readers had shifted from initial accusations to doubt. This worried Shen Weixiao deeply. Some were even calling her a fraud, accusing her of using multiple Weibo accounts to promote herself through underhanded tactics.
Â
Chunmian I haven’t logged into the desktop version for over a week. I just update my stories on my phone or computer and log off. Is my comment section a mess again? What exactly happened? Clutches head and cries
Â
Tan Xin Calm down. So… Lao Xue isn’t you?
Â
Chunmian What?! You doubt me too?!
Â
Shen Weixiao realized the situation was serious. If even her closest friend suspected her, the rumors must be incredibly persuasive to readers.
Â
Tan Xin From the surface, they have photos and evidence. Besides, Lao Xue seems to know you too well. I’ve always suspected she might be a friend from your real life, which is why… I’m confused.
