My Roommate Is a Dirty Talker (GL) - Chapter 28
Shi Xuan wasn’t naturally outgoing. After a few polite exchanges, she grew somewhat dismissive.
Â
After several attempts, Li Jiaru gave up trying to engage Shi Xuan in conversation, inwardly grumbling that the woman was a conversation killer. There’s no way to talk to her, she thought. Maybe only Shen Weixiao finds her warm and charming.
Â
The conversation finally gained momentum when Shen Weixiao returned.
Â
Shen Weixiao, a true northern girl, had previously raved to Shi Xuan about the vast variety and exquisite craftsmanship of northern Chinese wheat-based dishes. Naturally, when discussing where to eat, she immediately suggested this northern noodle restaurant. Its rustic yet elegant architecture and the traditional, handcrafted noodle-making process were enough to captivate any customer’s attention.
Â
Yet, no matter how many times Shen Weixiao glanced over, she couldn’t detect even a hint of a smile in Shi Xuan’s eyes. Instead, Shi Xuan stared at her fingers, lost in thought. Li Jiaru and Shen Weixiao, both budding foodies, had endless topics to discuss about the cuisine, chatting about everything under the sun. But Shi Xuan didn’t utter a single word.
Â
After finishing her meal, Shen Weixiao put down her chopsticks and casually bantered with Li Jiaru for a while before finally asking, Sister Xuan, do you not like the food here?
Shi Xuan casually looked up, her chopsticks paused mid-air. She raised an eyebrow with a polite smile. It’s fine, but I prefer my own cooking.
Â
Did she have to make her disdain so obvious? Shen Weixiao pouted, stretching her leg out to lightly kick Shi Xuan. Shi Xuan remained unfazed. Feeling a bit awkward, Shen Weixiao announced she was going to buy drinks, asked the others if they wanted anything, and headed to the front desk.
Â
As soon as Shen Weixiao left, Li Jiaru’s mood inexplicably brightened. She nearly grabbed Shi Xuan’s arm, eagerly pressing, Hey, Shi Xuan, you’ve lived with Wei Xiao for so long and you’re so close. She must tell you everything, right?
Â
Shi Xuan seemed to catch on to something important. She paused her typing, a faint smile playing on her lips. What do you want to know?
Â
Li Jiaru held her phone up to Shi Xuan’s face. The screen showed a young man with fair skin and a slightly dorky yet handsome look, his large, double-lidded eyes particularly striking. Who is this guy? The photo is really well-taken—perfect lighting and composition.
Â
Li Jiaru flipped the phone over to look at the photo again, then back, blinking expectantly. What do you think of him?
Hmm… a bit short, isn’t he? 165 cm? Shi Xuan glanced at the photo, her head still lowered, showing no interest whatsoever.
Â
No way! He’s actually 174 cm, and he looks quite good standing next to Wei Xiao! Li Jiaru tried to hide her slight embarrassment, her enthusiasm undiminished. Lowering her voice, she leaned closer to Shi Xuan’s ear. This is Xiao Lu from our company headquarters. Wei Xiao and Sister Min met him when they went to HQ to submit expense reports earlier this year. Turns out, the guy has a crush on Wei Xiao and asked me to help set them up. But I don’t know if Wei Xiao has a boyfriend, and I’m too embarrassed to ask her directly. Perfect timing for you to arrive! Tell me, does she have one? If not, I’ll play matchmaker.
Â
I see… Shi Xuan frowned slightly, and even Li Jiaru could sense her hesitation. Li Jiaru sighed. If she does, I’ll just tell Xiao Lu to give up. No point in him pining over her. It’s true what they say—all the good girls get snatched up first. Poor single dogs at our company.
Â
After a moment’s thought, Shi Xuan glanced at Shen Weixiao approaching in the distance and suddenly said mischievously, I’m not sure if Xiao has a boyfriend either. When she gets here, I’ll ask her for you.
Ah, asking directly? Isn’t that a bit too forward? Li Jiaru’s eyes widened as she stared at Shi Xuan. The girl calmly set down her chopsticks, her curved lashes casting thick shadows on her lower eyelids.
Â
What are you two talking about? Shen Weixiao asked, looking bewildered at Shi Xuan and Li Jiaru. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the atmosphere around them was strangely tense.
Â
Li Jiaru lifted her head with a bright smile, grinning at Shen Weixiao. Her phone screen flickered off, turning pitch black. Shi Xuan casually rose to take the drink Shen Weixiao offered, opened it, took a sip, and then calmly said, Oh, Xiao’s getting so thoughtful these days. I wonder if she has a crush on anyone?
Â
Huh? Shen Weixiao’s ears flushed. The words Don’t you know? were swallowed back down. Instead, she lightly stomped her foot and mumbled with mock annoyance, Why are you asking that?
Â
Other diners glanced over. Shen Weixiao remained seated, chewing on her straw and staring intently at Shi Xuan.
Â
Seizing the moment, Li Jiaru pressed her advantage. Exactly! We’ve known Wei Xiao for so long, and we still don’t know if she has a boyfriend!
