My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 13
The hangover left her body and mind feeling intensely uncomfortable. Even after leaving the house, she had no desire to work. After some thought, she decided to go to a beauty salon. She had done enough work lately; it was time to rest. A woman needs to treat herself well.
She met up with a friend, and after enjoying beauty treatments and massages together, they had afternoon tea and dinner, whiling away the time until nearly midnight before Xu Jingyi returned home. Meeting would definitely be awkward; avoiding it was better than confronting it, at least for now, right?
But to her surprise, when she got home, Lin Ruoyan was still sitting on the sofa watching TV. The TV showed the news, neither entertaining nor relaxing, yet Lin Ruoyan sat upright, watching intently.
“Sister-in-law, you’re back?” Lin Ruoyan greeted her upon her return, her tone lukewarm.
Xu Jingyi took off her high heels and put on comfortable slippers. As she debated whether to go over and sit down, she hummed in response and then added, “You’re still up, Ruoyan?”
Lin Ruoyan: “Yeah, just watching the news. I’m about to go to bed.”
“Mhm.” The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Xu Jingyi decided not to go over and instead headed straight upstairs to her room. It was getting late, and she should shower and go to bed. “Okay, you watch. I’m going to my room first.”
Lin Ruoyan didn’t speak immediately. It wasn’t until Xu Jingyi had gone up two steps that she spoke: “Sister-in-law, about that day… I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said those things. I apologize. You’re right, you’re single now, and I have no right to interfere with whatever you want to do.”
Xu Jingyi’s steps halted, a little bewildered. Which day? What thing? But she quickly realized Lin Ruoyan was talking about what happened in the dressing room.
“Oh, that…” Xu Jingyi turned to face Lin Ruoyan. “It’s fine. I know you were concerned because of Ruofeng. Let bygones be bygones. I won’t hold it against you, sister-in-law.”
Lin Ruoyan: “It’s good that you won’t hold it against me.” She paused before continuing, “Last night, sister-in-law was drunk and doesn’t remember what happened. That’s quite dangerous. It’s fortunate I was there yesterday and nothing happened, but… you really shouldn’t drink so much in the future.”
Xu Jingyi’s expression remained unchanged, but her mind was in turmoil: “Thanks for the reminder, Ruoyan. I’ll remember next time.”
“Good then.” Lin Ruoyan always spoke slowly, taking two or three seconds to connect her thoughts. “And I hope sister-in-law doesn’t misunderstand. I wasn’t trying to control you when I said those things; I just think it’s dangerous to drink too much outside. Try to drink less.”
“I know.”
Her attitude was sincere. After saying all that, there was nothing more to add, so she awkwardly added, “Sister-in-law, get some rest early.”
“Mhm, you too.”
Xu Jingyi went upstairs first, and Lin Ruoyan quickly followed, turning off the TV. The news hadn’t even finished broadcasting, and Xu Jingyi understood why Lin Ruoyan had been staying downstairs so late watching TV.
She was probably waiting for me, wasn’t she? Just to say those things? Was it to apologize or to say those later remarks? Or was the apology a pretext for the later remarks?
In any case, it was a reminder for her to drink less. Was she afraid I’d embarrass myself by getting too drunk outside? Her way of speaking was rather roundabout.
Xu Jingyi understood and said no more. Last night’s incident was now completely put behind them. She was even somewhat relieved that Lin Ruoyan was a woman. If it had been her brother-in-law last night, and those things had happened, she wouldn’t know how to resolve it today. Doing those things to her sister-in-law was just the awkwardness of exposing her private life, a slight loss of face. But with her brother-in-law, it would be much more than just awkward. She might be seen as feigning drunkenness to deliberately seduce him, and a man facing such a seduction might not necessarily let nothing happen.
Closing her room door, she shook her head. She really couldn’t drink like that again. But she never used to get so drunk before. She didn’t know what happened last night that made her so muddled.
