My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 14
The incident passed, like a stone thrown into calm water, sending out ripples before life returned to its usual tranquility.
When they were busy, the two rarely saw each other at home. Lin Ruoyan left early and returned late, while Xu Jingyi, after the initial period of intense work, gradually returned to her old rhythm. She had few things to handle, just needing to check in occasionally.
So, when Xu Jingyi, wearing a light nightgown, saw Lin Ruoyan enter, she was a little slow to react. She was half-reclining lazily on the sofa, the neckline of her nightgown rather wide, revealing a bit too much skin.
Lin Ruoyan glanced at her, then immediately looked away. Only when Xu Jingyi got up and draped a towel over herself did Lin Ruoyan turn her face back. “Sister-in-law, not asleep yet?”
Awkward words, an awkward tone, an awkward greeting.
It had been over ten days since she’d seen Lin Ruoyan return so early, and the housekeeper had also gone home. So, Xu Jingyi was dressed very lightly. She didn’t feel embarrassed at first, but after seeing Lin Ruoyan’s reaction, she slowly pulled a blanket over herself.
Lin Ruoyan’s reaction was peculiar. Xu Jingyi noticed her entire change, but couldn’t articulate why it was strange, so she just suppressed the feeling.
“Mhm, the drama I’m watching isn’t over yet.” She raised a hand to pull out the hair that was trapped under the blanket. Her body stretched, her long wavy hair cascading down her back, exuding a unique charm. “Want to watch for a bit together?”
Lin Ruoyan had already changed her shoes and was standing at the door with her laptop bag, not yet entering. Her time was tight; she should be going back to her room, washing up, and getting some rest. It was a rare early night off; she shouldn’t waste time watching TV shows.
But her body reacted faster than her mind. Before she could even refuse, she had already taken two steps towards Xu Jingyi. “What are you watching?”
Xu Jingyi was a little surprised that Lin Ruoyan also enjoyed watching dramas. She shifted her body, as if making space for her. “An historical drama. The plot and the main actors’ performances are pretty good.”
Lin Ruoyan sat down beside her. They fell silent again, the only sound in the living room coming from the television.
On the coffee table in front of the sofa, there were clean, cut fruits. Xu Jingyi ate some herself while also offering some to Lin Ruoyan.
Abroad, she was used to living alone, and rarely had such relaxed time, let alone watching TV shows. So, sitting together like this, watching a drama and eating fruit, felt a bit strange.
Lin Ruoyan also awkwardly ate a few pieces.
In Lin Ruoyan’s opinion, the TV show was dull and boring, but Xu Jingyi was utterly engrossed. After an initial awkwardness, she was quickly drawn into the plot. Even if she was bored, Lin Ruoyan still sat properly on the sofa, her back straight, not looking like she was relaxing at home, but rather like a diligent student listening to a lecture in class.
“Ruoyan, relax,” Xu Jingyi said after a while, noticing her posture. She reached out and patted Lin Ruoyan’s shoulder. “It’s TV, not a meeting. No need to be so stiff.”
With her movement, a pleasant scent of perfume wafted over, faint and comforting. The headache from a day of work eased a little. Lin Ruoyan obediently relaxed her body, though she still felt very bored, yet she didn’t want to leave.
When the episode ended, and the credits appeared on the screen, Xu Jingyi stretched. During the commercial break, Xu Jingyi casually asked, “Is it good?”
Lin Ruoyan didn’t know if it was good; her reaction wasn’t very interested, but she didn’t say so directly. After some thought, she said, “Can’t tell if it’s good or not from just one episode, can you?”
The typically straightforward answer made Xu Jingyi laugh. “Hahaha, that’s true. Then let’s watch a few more episodes. There’s another one tonight later.”
Lin Ruoyan gave an inexplicable “mhm” in agreement.
Xu Jingyi no longer dwelt on the topic. She felt that Lin Ruoyan today wasn’t as cold as usual, and seemed to want to ease their relationship, so she asked, “Why are you home so early today?”
“Many company matters have been sorted out, so I won’t be working so much overtime anymore,” Lin Ruoyan said. She had mild myopia and hadn’t taken off her glasses after coming home. Her hair was tied back for convenience. Perhaps because it was evening, a few unruly strands of hair hung down from behind her ears, making her look very intellectual.
Xu Jingyi looked at her for a few moments, finding her quite beautiful, a cold beauty.
“That’s good. People can’t always be tense; they need to relax.” Perhaps feeling comfortable, Xu Jingyi again reclined on the sofa, pulling her feet up and curling into a ball. “Being tense for too long can make you sick.”
“Mhm.” Lin Ruoyan wasn’t a talkative person. After her “mhm,” she didn’t know what to say next. She stared blankly at the TV, but half of her attention was on the person beside her. She hadn’t spent much time at home before. Most of the time, Xu Jingyi appeared in a mature, sophisticated style, rarely like this.
“Hey, have you eaten?” The TV commercial was a bit long. Xu Jingyi waited idly. After an advertisement flickered across the screen, her gaze fell on the fruit on the coffee table, and she suddenly remembered the question.
“Yes, I ate at the company.”
“Mhm… right, it’s so late already.” Xu Jingyi’s “mhm” stretched out. “Your brother was the same. Always working overtime, coming home very late.”
Lin Ruoyan’s eyelids trembled, as if something had occurred to her. A strange feeling welled up in her heart. She tried to suppress her thoughts but couldn’t resist. “Sister-in-law, do you miss my brother?”
