My sister-in-law has impure intentions (GL) - Chapter 18
Lin Ruoyan didn’t go home that night, and the next day, she also arrived home late at night.
Originally, she wanted to avoid Xu Jingyi, but she didn’t expect that it was already close to midnight, and the other person was still sitting on the sofa.
The living room lights were already off, and it wasn’t until they were turned on that Lin Ruoyan saw Xu Jingyi.
“Sister-in-law.” Her thoughts flipped rapidly a few times, and Lin Ruoyan eventually greeted her. The air was terrifyingly quiet; she didn’t want to stay longer, so she turned to go upstairs after saying hello, but Xu Jingyi called out to her.
After sitting down on the sofa, the silence became even more suffocating, both of them waiting for the other to speak.
Lin Ruoyan held her temper a bit better, but it was Xu Jingyi who spoke first, her voice heavy, “Did you go see that woman?”
“Yeah.” Pretty quick to know, Lin Ruoyan thought.
“What did you ask?” Xu Jingyi looked over, staring at the other person’s expression. The other person kept their head down, which made her a bit irritable. “Look at me when you talk.”
Lin Ruoyan looked up at her, but she couldn’t read anything from her eyes. Her expression was calm, like a still pond. “Where’s sister-in-law? What did you talk about when you went to see that woman?”
The tense atmosphere became even more oppressive. Xu Jingyi knew she couldn’t get any information from the other party, so she took a step back and asked, “Why investigate further? Isn’t it all in the past? Isn’t it all in the past?”
This time, Lin Ruoyan didn’t beat around the bush and directly said, “Heh, it might be in the past for you, sister-in-law, but I’ve already said that my brother’s death was definitely not an accident. I don’t believe the police’s conclusion.”
As she spoke, anger appeared in her eyes, no longer the calm stillness from before. “To find the real murderer, I will definitely investigate. I will continue to investigate. This woman is just the beginning.”
“You…” The other party’s attitude was resolute, and Xu Jingyi, feeling a bit exasperated, wanted to say something but ultimately swallowed her words. “Isn’t it fine like this now? Why must we pursue the truth?”
Her words are very strange, as if she is satisfied with the current situation, or as if she always wanted this outcome.
Or rather… this current outcome is something she has caused.
It’s just that now we have a bit of a clue about this matter, but we haven’t figured everything out yet, so it’s hard to say anything. Lin Ruoyan snorted coldly, “What’s wrong with wanting to know who the real killer of my brother is?”
“And then what?”Xu Jingyi suddenly stood up, her chest heaving violently due to her unstable breathing, “So what? What happens next? To kill someone to avenge your brother? Let them accompany your brother in death?”
She looked down at Lin Ruoyan from a high vantage point, her hand clenched tightly, her voice loud and almost like a quarrel, “And then you go die with them? Have you ever thought that if someone really did plan to kill your brother without leaving any evidence, they could just as easily kill you?”
Lin Ruoyan was not intimidated by her and stood up as well, her aura even subtly overpowering the other person. Her voice was not loud but was tightly strained, “As long as I find evidence, the police will naturally investigate. Why resort to murder?”
“Yes, you and my brother are just a couple. When trouble comes, you each go your own way. With my brother dead, you can enjoy the fruits of your labor alone, so there’s naturally no need to investigate. But I’m different from you. As long as there are any doubts, I will uncover the final truth.”
When Xu Jingyi heard this, she raised her hand and slapped her, the sound crisp and clear. Lin Ruoyan’s face quickly swelled with a handprint, but this slap didn’t silence her. “My Brother is with you every day, all your belongings are tied together. Even if you have enemies, you share them together. But only my brother died. What could be the reason? You should know better than I do.”
Xu Jingyi didn’t hit her this time, and she wasn’t even as angry as before. “Is there anything else? Say it all at once.”
“I should have already found out everything you know, but you haven’t told me anything. Why is that? Is it really as you said, that you’re afraid I might get involved in this and cause problems, or is there another reason that you should know better than anyone else?”
“Since we’ve come this far, I’ll be straightforward. I’ve already grasped the clues, and I won’t easily give up.”
Xu Jingyi clasped her hands tightly behind her back, “I advise you not to continue, or the consequences will be hard to bear.”
“Sister-in-law, if this is your attitude, I really want to know what made you so easily accept the ‘accident’ explanation, when you clearly know that you have made many enemies and the likelihood of an accident is almost zero.”
“I’ve already said, since the incident has happened and can’t be undone, just accept it. Living well in the future is the best choice.”
“Ha, can you really live your future days in peace?”
“Why not?”
Lin Ruoyan’s expression grew even colder. On the other hand, the speculation under the other person’s attitude gained the upper hand. Her attitude became even colder, and the two completely tore off their masks. “Since that’s the case, I have nothing more to say to you.”
She turned around and left, and the two parted on bad terms.
The relationship that had just eased up became even more strained, and the harmonious interactions from a while ago felt like a fleeting illusion.
