My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 19
After that day, the two didn’t see each other for several days. Lin Ruoyan came home later and later, and when she did, she stayed in her study or bedroom. It was as if they were in the same space but completely separated.
Xu Jingyi also suddenly became busy, coming home late every day. Her people often reported Xu Jingyi’s whereabouts to her. The number of social engagements had doubled from the usual two or three a week. On the surface, these engagements seemed normal business proceedings. Xu Jingyi managed such a large business, and while the specifics were handled by others, she still needed to go out and socialize to smooth things over. This was a task she couldn’t avoid.
However, the frequency struck Lin Ruoyan as unusually high. She had her people keep a close watch. Since their positions had been made clear, Lin Ruoyan had no reservations about her actions. Even if Xu Jingyi found out she was being watched, Lin Ruoyan would continue. She wasn’t just watching her to find clues; another reason was that she was afraid Xu Jingyi would be taken advantage of. After all, she was still her sister-in-law.
To outsiders, this only made the relationship between the two sisters-in-law seem very good, with the absence of the brother’s bond having the opposite effect. This perception grew even stronger as they frequently attended events together that required a partner.
Although Lin Ruoyan knew what people were saying, she was still slightly surprised when she received Xu Jingyi’s call.
“Hello, sister-in-law.” The environment on the other end sounded noisy, filled with the mixed chatter of men and women, accompanied by some cheers and teasing.
“Come join us for dinner!”
“Yeah, that’s right!”
“Ruoyan…” The voices of the others were cut off. Xu Jingyi’s slightly tipsy voice came through the phone, sounding very affectionate. Lin Ruoyan was momentarily dazed but quickly realized Xu Jingyi was just acting. “Want to come for dinner? Director Wang and Director Zhang are here.”
Lin Ruoyan didn’t reply immediately. After a moment’s thought, she said, “I still have some things to deal with at the company.”
“Let’s deal with that tomorrow. Everyone says they haven’t seen you in a while. Come have a drink and a chat with us.”
Lin Ruoyan knew that Xu Jingyi’s words meant she really needed her to come. Perhaps there was something important to discuss. The two people she mentioned were high-ranking city officials.
“Okay, I’ll be there soon.”
She didn’t even ask for the address; she just sent a message and received the address before she even got in her car.
When she arrived, the atmosphere inside was still lively. She could hear the voices from outside the private room. She put on a professional smile and walked in.
“Hey, Xiao Lin’s here?” The Director Zhang she had mentioned earlier was the first to see her and greet her.
Lin Ruoyan greeted him and then sat down next to Xu Jingyi. The person next to Xu Jingyi was the one referred to as Director Wang. As soon as Lin Ruoyan sat down, Xu Jingyi took her arm, and they naturally started making small talk.
“Why are you working so late? Those things aren’t that urgent. Don’t wear yourself out. Director Wang has been waiting for you for a while.”
“My apologies for being late. I’ll penalize myself with three drinks first.”
With alcohol-fueled appetites and desires running high, many people had been looking at her ever since she walked in, especially now that she was sitting next to Xu Jingyi.
After three drinks, the people around them cheered.
“Ms. Lin has a great alcohol tolerance! A true hero among women, just like Ms. Lin senior!”
Lin Ruoyan was not shy. As the center of attention, she stood up confidently. “Whether my tolerance is good or not, I’ll definitely drink with all the officials until you’re happy. I’m late today, so I’ll toast you all first.” With that, she emptied her glass again. She turned the glass over, and no drops of wine clung to the sides. “I’ll toast each of you individually later.”
The opening was over, and conversation resumed in the private room. Director Wang, who was at the head of the table, then spoke. “Xiao Lin, how have you been feeling lately?”
It sounded like small talk but held a deeper meaning. Lin Ruoyan was thinking about how to answer when Xu Jingyi patted her thigh in a very affectionate manner. “Director Wang is concerned about you. Director Wang has a new project, and if he thinks you’re struggling to manage the Lin Group, the project might go to someone else.”
Lin Ruoyan finally understood why Xu Jingyi had called her here. “Director Wang, is that so?”
Director Wang had intended to be more subtle, but since Xu Jingyi had been direct, they had probably already discussed things thoroughly. Now, calling Lin Ruoyan over was just a formality. After a round of drinks, the deal would probably be sealed.
The business was almost settled, and a lot of alcohol had been consumed. The people who had been slightly tipsy were now completely drunk. Lin Ruoyan spoke while keeping an eye on Xu Jingyi. She noticed that the person talking to Xu Jingyi was staring intently at her chest, almost as if he was glued to it.
Xu Jingyi, however, appeared completely unbothered, chatting happily and ignoring the arm the man had draped over her. She usually dressed in a revealing way, and it was clear the man was using the pretense of conversation to take advantage of her.
Lin Ruoyan frowned slightly. She suddenly finished her drink, and then slammed her head onto the table. The sharp sound of plates and dishes drew Xu Jingyi’s attention.
Xu Jingyi quickly went over and pulled Lin Ruoyan up from the table. Lin Ruoyan, taking advantage of the situation, rested her head on Xu Jingyi’s shoulder. “Let’s go. We’ve finished talking.”
The words were spoken clearly, and Xu Jingyi understood. She “struggled” to stand up with Lin Ruoyan’s weight on her shoulders. “Everyone, I’m sorry, but my sister doesn’t have a very good alcohol tolerance, so I’ll take her home now. This half a glass of wine is my apology to all of you.”
Without waiting for a response, she downed the wine in the decanter, wrapped her arm around Lin Ruoyan, and left the private room.
