My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 26
Xu Jingyi went to great lengths to find a suitable partner for Lin Ruoyan. Even after their argument and unpleasant parting that night, Xu Jingyi didn’t give up and would occasionally send her information about potential blind dates. Lin Ruoyan ignored all these messages and hadn’t seen any of those people again. She didn’t know how Xu Jingyi handled it afterward; it was too annoying for her to pay attention.
But the ripple effect arrived a month later. The two were at a business dinner, which they had expected to be a normal event. But as the alcohol took over, some people’s mouths became unfiltered, and they said whatever came to mind.
“Ms. Lin, I heard your sister-in-law is introducing you to potential partners recently?” The man opposite her was completely drunk, and his breath reeked of alcohol when he spoke. But he thought he was whispering, and he leaned close to her to say it, almost making Lin Ruoyan gag. But he was a business associate, and even if she was uncomfortable, she had to endure it. In the business world, you’re not always your own person; sometimes, you just have to bear it.
This Director Li was nearly 40 and divorced, not someone Xu Jingyi would ever consider. Lin Ruoyan was surprised that he would ask this himself. She was a little angry at the mess Xu Jingyi had gotten her into, but for now, she could only hold back her discomfort and deal with him. While she was thinking about what to say, she couldn’t help but look at him, feeling angry and resentful. Why did she have to stir up all this trouble? Now it’s a huge mess.
“Oh, well, my sister-in-law is worrying too much. I don’t have any interest in that yet. If that’s what you want to ask, Director Li, there’s no need to say more.” Her tone was not as warm as before; it was a little cold. “You know my brother is gone. I don’t have any extra energy to think about these things. My career is the priority.”
She thought her rejection would embarrass or anger him, but he just smiled. “Ms. Lin, it’s a good thing you’re so career-driven. I admire you. It makes me feel secure about doing business together.”
“Oh… well, that’s good, ha ha ha.” His few words made his intentions clear. He was obviously not interested in her romantically but was probing to see if she was really getting married and to consider their future collaborations. “If you’re worried my marriage will affect our partnership, you can rest assured. My focus is on work right now; I have no plans to get married.”
“I’m not worried about that, Ms. Lin. Since we’re partners, I absolutely trust you.” He finished his flattery and then changed the subject, his tone becoming a little embarrassed. “Well, Ms. Lin, I have a special request.” He then looked at Xu Jingyi again.
Lin Ruoyan: ???
Xu Jingyi was completely unaware that the two of them were looking at her while talking. She was chatting happily, her neck slightly flushed, so she must have had a lot to drink. Something felt wrong, but Lin Ruoyan couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was.
“What is it?”
Then she saw Director Li stuttering and fidgeting for a long time, unable to get his words out. Every time he opened his mouth, he held it back.
“Are you having a problem with your company’s finances, Director Li?” Lin Ruoyan was getting fed up with this man. The alcohol was churning in her stomach, and she was close to throwing up. “You can just say it directly.”
“No, no…” Director Li quickly denied it. “You can rest assured about our partnership, Ms. Lin. There won’t be any issues. My company’s finances are very healthy; there’s no problem.”
“Then… what is it, Director Li? Just say it.” She even managed a small smile. Since it wasn’t about the partnership or an unwanted advance, whatever it was, it shouldn’t be a big deal for her.
“Well… um… that… Since you put it that way, Ms. Lin, I’ll be direct.” He seemed to gather up a great deal of courage and said, “Since your sister-in-law is setting you up on blind dates, I wanted to ask if she has any thoughts of remarrying?”
The amount of information was overwhelming. Lin Ruoyan couldn’t process it for a moment. Her mind went blank, as if a white light had flashed through it. She was speechless for at least thirty seconds.
“What did you say?”
“I really like your sister-in-law, and it’s not appropriate for me to approach her directly. It seems like you have a good relationship with her, so I wanted to ask you first. If she’s also thinking about remarrying, I’d like to give it a try.” The more he spoke, the more embarrassed he became, his voice growing softer and softer. He looked over at Xu Jingyi several times.
Lin Ruoyan followed his gaze and looked over a few times as well. Xu Jingyi was dressed glamorously, with large areas of exposed skin turning pink. Lin Ruoyan didn’t know who she was trying to attract, but her own anger was flaring up. She was so furious she could barely contain it.
“Director Li,” her tone was icy, and her voice, though suppressed, was still much louder than his. “My brother passed away less than half a year ago. Your impatience is quite inappropriate.”
“Furthermore, if my sister-in-law has any thoughts about it, she wouldn’t tell me. I wouldn’t know.”
“Finally… I’d advise you not to have any inappropriate ideas about my sister-in-law,” she said, trying to hold back her temper but failing. “Regardless of whether she wants to remarry, she would absolutely not be interested in you.”
With that, she stood up and walked away, completely ignoring the reactions of the people behind her. She grabbed Xu Jingyi’s hand and left the private room, leaving the large group of people behind.
