My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 28
That night’s incident was left unresolved. There was silence all the way home, and once they arrived, they each went to their own rooms. Xu Jingyi never brought up the topic of moving out again. In Lin Ruoyan’s heart, the matter was considered over. Life continued as usual. The company’s affairs were running smoothly, even better than when Lin Ruofeng was alive.
Xu Jingyi went to the board meetings a few times, and each time she acted like a mascot, listening without saying much. She supported all of Lin Ruoyan’s decisions. The surface was calm, but underneath, a current was stirring. The investigation had hit a dead end for a long time. Even though Lin Ruoyan was still looking into it, no progress was exactly the outcome Xu Jingyi wanted.
After all, Lin Ruoyan had only returned to the country recently, so it was normal for her to be unable to find many things. When there was no movement for over a month, Xu Jingyi’s heart was still on edge. After two months passed with no progress, her heart finally relaxed a little. After three months of silence, her tense nerves finally loosened. Her attitude towards Lin Ruoyan at social events even changed considerably. Although a bombshell was still buried in her heart, Xu Jingyi felt that as long as they didn’t have too much contact, that underdeveloped feeling would eventually fade.
But no matter how much you plan, fate has its own way. Changes often happen when people are most relaxed. One day, while Xu Jingyi was in a secluded spot making tea and unwinding, an infrequently contacted number called. Xu Jingyi frowned. This number usually didn’t call unless there was progress on that matter.
“What is it?” she answered, her voice much more serious than usual. The person on the other end didn’t waste words and explained the situation in a few sentences. Xu Jingyi’s heart sank as she listened. She finally gave a soft “mhm.” “Have a few more people secretly follow her. Handle any situations that arise promptly.”
The call ended quickly. Her good mood was completely gone. The weather had been a bit cold recently, and “stove-side tea-making” was popular online. She also wanted to follow the trend and invited her friends to join her. She didn’t expect to catch up with a trend but with trouble instead.
She had underestimated Lin Ruoyan. She thought that since Lin Ruoyan didn’t have a deep foundation in the country, it would be difficult for her to find many things. But even after so long, she still hadn’t given up. Impressive.
“What’s wrong?” her friend asked when she came back looking a little upset.
Xu Jingyi poured a cup of tea, took a small sip, and said, “Nothing, it’s just that a child isn’t being very obedient.”
“A child?” her friend asked, confused. She didn’t have any kids. Where did a child come from?
“Yes, Ruofeng’s sister. Isn’t she a child?” Xu Jingyi’s expression returned to normal.
“Huh?” How was she a child? “Is it about the blind dates? You’ve been worrying about it for a while now, and there’s still no result?”
Xu Jingyi didn’t want to say much. She sighed. “Sigh, she’s not willing. It’s no use no matter how many people I find for her.”
“I guess so.” Her friend pouted and fell silent for a moment. After a while, she asked, “What about you, though? Are you really treating her like family? Aren’t you going to find someone for yourself?”
“I’m not in the mood for that.”
“Speaking of which, your sister-in-law is quite proper-looking. She’s not worse than Lin Ruofeng. If she were a man, it wouldn’t be so bad for you to take her in,” she said, winking and nudging, not knowing if she was teasing her or if she genuinely thought it was a good idea.
Xu Jingyi almost choked on her tea. She reached out and patted her friend’s shoulder. “Don’t talk nonsense. That’s Ruofeng’s sister. I see her as a close relative.”
Her friend burst into laughter. “Look how scared you are! I’m just saying. Besides, she’s not a man. Women and women… hmm…” It was as if she had thought of something. Even though there were only two of them in the room, she lowered her voice to speak. “It’s not a bad idea, is it?”
This time, Xu Jingyi really did choke. “What are you talking about?” she said, shooting her friend a look. “You’re just getting more and more ridiculous.” With that, she grabbed a roasted peanut. “Can’t all this food shut you up? Here, eat a peanut and talk less.”
Her friend, with her mouth full of peanuts, chewed and mumbled, “It’s just… in our circle, aren’t there a lot of men with men and women with women? What’s so strange about that?”
Xu Jingyi didn’t say anything and poured herself some tea to drink. “But yours is a pretty good one. I haven’t heard of any messy things about her. She seems to live a very clean life, and she manages the company well,” her friend continued, not caring if she was listening. In casual conversation, you don’t need a back-and-forth. She just kept talking to herself. “It’s just that her marriage plans are a little worrisome…”
While her friend was still rambling, Xu Jingyi’s thoughts began to drift. What’s so good about her? If you knew what she was thinking, you wouldn’t think she was so good. She still remembered what Lin Ruoyan had done to her when she was pretending to be drunk. On the surface, she seemed innocent, but who knows what she was like on the inside? That person was no good.
What the phone call had revealed was a bit tricky. She needed to think about how to handle it.
