My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 29
The most urgent task was to make Lin Ruoyan abandon her relentless pursuit of this matter, or to divert her attention so she wouldn’t focus on it so much. The methods, of course, were to approach it from the perspectives of work, life, and romance. This was her previous thinking, which was why she kept introducing potential partners to her. Looking back now, the direction was right, but the method was wrong. The people Lin Ruoyan wanted were never those so-called elite young men. What she wanted was…
Xu Jingyi bit her lip, feeling a little parched. A bold idea was slowly forming in her mind. But it was far too audacious. She was her sister-in-law. If something went wrong in the process, how would she face her brother? Was she really going to get involved with her sister-in-law, as people had suggested?
But if she continued to let Lin Ruoyan investigate, she truly didn’t know what would happen, and she couldn’t risk it. Lin Ruoyan was indeed very capable. How long had she been back in the country? She had gone from having no foundation to building her own network of influence. Xu Jingyi had underestimated her. She had thought that by making her the executive president, it would take her a long time to build her own power. By the time Lin Ruoyan’s wings were fully grown, that matter would have been resolved by her. But things hadn’t gone as she planned. Lin Ruoyan’s development was faster than she could have imagined.
The more she thought about it, the more her head ached. Amidst her friend’s chatter, Xu Jingyi took another sip of tea, then picked up her phone to message Lin Ruoyan. This needed to be handled quickly rather than slowly; the longer she delayed, the harder it would be.
“Are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together?” She sent the message and immediately threw the phone to the side, as if it were a snake or a scorpion. She needed to get close to her sister-in-law, who had these unusual feelings for her, but she couldn’t get too close. To put it simply, she needed to flirt with her without crossing the final line. As long as she maintained that last boundary, she could reveal everything after she had dealt with the matter.
It was easy to say but difficult to do. She had no experience with this kind of thing. Too much would be too much; too little would not be enough. It was like walking on a razor’s edge, but she had to take the risk.
The notification sound for a new message rang. Xu Jingyi’s heart was restless. She wanted to look but was also a little afraid to. Whether Lin Ruoyan accepted or not, she would be in an awkward mood right now. But she had to face it. After another minute, she picked up her phone and opened WeChat. It wasn’t a message from Lin Ruoyan. It was a work report from a subordinate.
Xu Jingyi: ……………….. False alarm.
Lin Ruoyan was still busy. By the time she saw Xu Jingyi’s message, an hour had passed. At that moment, she was about to leave the office to meet the person who had sent her a report. Seeing Xu Jingyi’s message, she hesitated. Their relationship had been cool and distant for a while. After that night, their dynamic had been a bit strange. She couldn’t pinpoint what was strange about it, but it was odd that Xu Jingyi would ask her to dinner today, just after she had received that report. It was hard not to overthink it.
She narrowed her eyes, spinning the phone in her hand. Half a minute later, she made her decision. She didn’t reply to the message but called directly.
“Hello, sister-in-law.” Her voice was normal. “Do you need something?”
On Xu Jingyi’s end, she had a few seconds of mental blankness after answering the phone. She felt as if she was being pushed forward by a pair of large hands. She had an indescribable feeling but had to face it. “No, I don’t need anything. That’s why I’m asking you to dinner.” She paused and added, “It’s been a long time since we had dinner alone. Today is a good opportunity.”
She hadn’t felt this emotion called “nervousness” in a very long time. The people she dealt with in business were complex. She had long mastered the ability to say the right things to the right people. Even when facing the most difficult situations, she could handle them with a smile. She never expected to feel nervous because of one person today.
“Just dinner?” Lin Ruoyan asked.
“Just dinner.”
Although Lin Ruoyan was a bit confused, she agreed. “Okay, where?” She wanted to see what Xu Jingyi was up to.
Lin Ruoyan’s acceptance should have relaxed Xu Jingyi, but the moment she said yes, Xu Jingyi’s heart was suspended even higher. Still, she maintained a calm facade. “I’ll text you the address.”
“Okay.”
“Are you going now?” Xu Jingyi asked.
“Yes, I’m getting ready to leave the office.” Lin Ruoyan felt there was nothing more to say. “Then… see you soon?”
“Mhm, see you soon.”
Xu Jingyi put down her phone and sighed. For some reason, besides that one time she pretended to be drunk and saw through Lin Ruoyan’s feelings, Lin Ruoyan had never made any inappropriate moves or said anything out of line. But now, having to face her alone still made her nervous. Oh well, I’ll just take it one step at a time. She’s not going to eat me alive. At least not tonight.
Author’s Note:
Lin: Hehe, how do you know I don’t want to eat you alive?
