My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 3
Both were utterly exhausted and severely sleep-deprived. They had gone to bed right after returning to the bedroom, completely missing dinner. When Xu Jingyi woke up again, it was already between three and four in the morning.
She squinted, habitually reaching out to the nightstand. Not finding the familiar cup, she paused, her empty hand clenching into a fist before lingering in the air for a moment and then retracting.
She had a habit of drinking water in the middle of the night, so there was always a glass of water by her bedside before she slept, ready for her to drink when she woke up. Now, the person who put the water there was gone, so naturally, there was no water.
Habits aren’t easy to break. She got up, casually threw on a jacket, and went downstairs for water. To her surprise, as she turned the corner of the staircase, she saw a faint light emanating from the kitchen.
Who could be up so late?
She tiptoed to the kitchen doorway and paused for two seconds upon seeing the person inside, then softly said, “Ruo… Yan, why are you in the kitchen so late?”
Nighttime emotions tend to intensify, and she almost mispronounced the name.
Even in the silent night, her footsteps made no sound as she approached, so the sudden appearance of a voice behind her startled Lin Ruoyan, making the hairs on her body stand on end.
She quickly turned around and only calmed down when she saw Xu Jingyi standing at the doorway. Lin Ruoyan didn’t consider herself a pervert, but the person at the door still made her involuntarily look her up and down.
Xu Jingyi’s pajamas were a bit revealing, with a rather wide neckline. She had only thrown on a jacket, assuming no one was downstairs, and hadn’t paid attention. Now, these “views” were exposed to Lin Ruoyan’s eyes.
Lin Ruoyan subtly lowered her gaze and said, “I haven’t adjusted to the time difference, so I can’t sleep right now. Plus, I’m a bit hungry, so I came down to get something to eat.”
As she spoke, she raised the cup in her hand towards Xu Jingyi. The transparent glass contained yogurt and cereal, half-stirred and not yet fully mixed.
“And sister-in-law? What are you doing down here so late?”
Xu Jingyi, who had been leaning against the door, slowly straightened up and walked towards the counter, saying, “I was a bit thirsty in the middle of the night, so I came down for some water.”
The water heater was next to the refrigerator. Lin Ruoyan had taken the yogurt and was standing right beside it, so now that Xu Jingyi walked over, they were practically touching.
One was getting water, the other stirring yogurt. The silence was unusually profound for a moment, broken only by the gurgling of water filling the cup and the occasional clinking of the spoon against the glass.
“Sister-in-law.” Lin Ruoyan’s hand, stirring the yogurt, suddenly stopped. Her voice sounded somewhat dazed, not as cold as her exterior suggested. “Do you really think my brother’s car accident was just an accident?”
Xu Jingyi remained silent for a long time. The police had already provided an answer to this question, but in her heart, she didn’t quite believe it.
However…
A hint of fierceness flickered in Xu Jingyi’s eyes, though Lin Ruoyan couldn’t see it from her angle.
“Didn’t the police already investigate? It was an accident. Don’t think so much,” Xu Jingyi said, her tone flat, as if she had completely accepted that explanation.
“Sister-in-law, do you really believe that?”
“Why did that large truck turn so perfectly just as my brother was making his turn? The police simply used ‘drunk driving’ as a reason to close the case. Isn’t that too dismissive?”
Lin Ruoyan’s voice betrayed her unwillingness to accept that it was an accident.
Xu Jingyi turned and leaned against the counter, lowering her head to drink water, avoiding eye contact with Lin Ruoyan. “Ruoyan, since the police have already reached a conclusion on this matter, there’s no need to keep pursuing it. It was an accident precisely because it was a coincidence. If it weren’t an accident, the police would certainly have given us a fair and just result.”
“You believe the police?” Her attitude was too nonchalant, and Lin Ruoyan’s tone couldn’t help but become sharper. She even moved in front of Xu Jingyi. “Or rather…”
“Ruoyan.” Xu Jingyi interrupted her, lifting her gaze to meet hers. “We are citizens of China. If we don’t trust our country, if we don’t trust the police, what else can we trust?”
“Do you trust your own imagination?” Her tone became heavier.
“I…”
Lin Ruoyan stared intently into Xu Jingyi’s eyes. Even without words, much was understood between them. She took a step back, reached over the counter behind Xu Jingyi, and picked up her yogurt cup, her voice slightly lowered. “Sister-in-law is right.”
The topic seemed to have no further need for discussion. As she prepared to leave, she took two steps, then suddenly stopped. “Sister-in-law, the nights are cool lately. If you come downstairs, wear warmer clothes.”
After saying that, Lin Ruoyan strode away. With her height and long legs, she was out of the kitchen in a few steps, leaving a slightly frowning and confused Xu Jingyi behind.
Warmer clothes? What did she mean? She wasn’t cold, and hadn’t she also put on a jacket?
With lingering doubt, she looked down and realized that the neckline of her pajamas was almost open down to her chest, pulled by her jacket, practically exposing her n1pples. Half of her br3ast was brazenly exposed to the air; Lin Ruoyan must have seen everything just now.
She awkwardly pulled at her collar. She was used to dressing like this at home, so she hadn’t paid much attention.
But they were both women; Lin Ruoyan had everything she did, and seemingly… quite large too, so it wasn’t a big deal to be seen. However, because this person was her sister-in-law, it was still a bit embarrassing.
After pulling her collar up and holding her water, Xu Jingyi left the kitchen. Lin Ruoyan was long gone, and only then did she feel relieved enough to return upstairs.
