My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 34
Because of the delay caused by Xu Jingyi, Lin Ruoyan didn’t get to meet the person herself, but she did listen to a detailed report from her subordinate. When Lin Ruofeng had his accident, there was a crucial piece of information the police hadn’t told them: the other car’s front end had veered sharply into the turn, almost completely off-road and heading uphill. This meant that no matter what, Lin Ruofeng’s car couldn’t have avoided the collision. The other car was going extremely fast, and the crash that day was practically unavoidable.
This was a very important detail, but Lin Ruoyan only acknowledged it with a “got it” and told them to continue the investigation before hanging up. The person she was supposed to meet was the driver. He was sentenced to two years in prison for drunk driving and causing a death. It had been less than a year since the accident, so she was surprised to learn that the driver had recently been released. She had spent some time looking for him, finally finding him a few days ago. However, she had no authority to enforce the law, so she used some of her own methods to get some information before letting him go so she wouldn’t alert anyone. The driver was a key piece of the puzzle. If he was acting on someone’s orders, she might be able to get new leads from him.
As the investigation continued, her relationship with Xu Jingyi grew closer. Xu Jingyi started asking her out for dinner more often, and they would go out at night to relax, go to the beauty salon, or simply have a drink at a bar after dinner. A few days ago, they even made plans to travel together this weekend. The thought of it made Lin Ruoyan uncontrollably happy, and she was even a little distracted at work.
She knew her state was not right. She shouldn’t be so close to Xu Jingyi, or rather, she shouldn’t feel happy about being so close to her. But she couldn’t control it. The weather was a bit cold now, and Xu Jingyi wanted to go abroad, which Lin Ruoyan had no problem with. She had been working hard to get everything organized over the past few days, and they were set to leave in three days. Even though she was a little distracted, she was working overtime to make sure no one would bother her while she was away.
After three consecutive days of overtime, Xu Jingyi showed up at her office on the last day, catching her completely by surprise. At that time, all the employees had left, even her secretary, leaving only her bodyguard in the office. Xu Jingyi walked in with two large bags of takeout, placing them on the guest table. She smiled and said, “Wu, you can go now. I brought your share, too. Go get something to eat.”
Wu smiled sheepishly. “Okay, thank you, Madam. I’ll head out now.”
With only the two of them left in the office, Xu Jingyi waved Lin Ruoyan over. “Ruoyan, come here. It’s so late. Did you skip dinner again? How can your body handle not eating?”
Lin Ruoyan put down her work and walked over. The delicious aroma made her stomach rumble. “Why are you here, sister-in-law?”
“If I didn’t come, I don’t know when you would have eaten.” She unpacked the containers one by one and arranged the food. “I asked Wu and found out that you’ve been skipping meals while working overtime these past two days just so we can go on this trip.”
“Don’t do that again, you hear?” With the food laid out, she took out a pair of chopsticks and gently tapped Lin Ruoyan on the head. “Since you’re working overtime for our trip, it’s only right that I come to check on you.”
A pleasant fragrance wafted from her as she tapped her head, making Lin Ruoyan’s heart skip a beat.
“Why did Wu tell you even that?” she grumbled as she took the chopsticks.
“He only told me because I asked. You’re a grown woman; how can you not know to feed yourself?”
Lin Ruoyan picked up her bowl and ate quietly, not saying anything else. “Did you go and get the takeout yourself, sister-in-law?”
“Yes. You said this place was good the last time we ate here, right? So I went to get some takeout. The flavor might not be as good as when you eat there, so give it a try,” Xu Jingyi said, smiling at her and giving her a piece of greens.
Lin Ruoyan ate the rice with the greens. Xu Jingyi’s words made her heart feel incredibly sweet and uncontrollably happy. Hearing that she had come all this way to bring her food because she knew she hadn’t eaten, and that she had gone there herself instead of just ordering a mundane takeout, really touched her. This was a feeling she had never experienced before—the feeling of being cared for. It made her so happy.
“Oh, I’ve already prepared most of the things for the trip. When we get back, you just rest well. You’ll only need to bring your ID and clothes in the morning, and we can leave right away.”
“Mhm. Thank you for your trouble, sister-in-law.”
“Ruoyan…” Xu Jingyi sighed and put down her bowl.
“What’s wrong?”
“Your brother has been gone for a while now. It feels a little awkward when I hear you call me ‘sister-in-law.’ How about you just call me by my name from now on?”
“Huh?”
“We’re around the same age. I call you Ruoyan, and you can call me Jingyi. What do you think?” Xu Jingyi stared at her, her eyes full of anticipation.
Lin Ruoyan hadn’t thought about this before, and the sudden suggestion made her a little flustered, but she also couldn’t help but feel a pull towards it. “Is that okay?”
“What’s not okay about it?” Seeing her hesitate, Xu Jingyi quickly pressed on. “That’s it then. You’ll call me Jingyi from now on.”
“Okay.”
“Then say it once so I can hear.” Xu Jingyi saw that her ears were turning red again. The small splash of color made her feel a playful itch, and she couldn’t resist teasing her further.
“Jing… Jing… Sister-in-law, maybe not?”
“No, you have to say it.”
That hint of red spread from her ears to the back of her neck, and finally, she said in a whisper-like voice, “Jingyi.”
Seeing her ears so red from being teased, Xu Jingyi was satisfied and finally let her off the hook. “The first time is always a little awkward, but it’ll become a habit. Haha.”
“Mhm… mhm.”
