My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 4
Lin Ruofeng’s sudden passing and the subsequent prolonged handling of his affairs left the group in disarray after his funeral.
After just one day of rest, Xu Jingyi had to go to the Lin Group to take charge. The conference room was packed. Due to Lin Ruofeng’s sudden death, the previously well-balanced factions within the group now sought to take advantage of the chaos and gain benefits.
As soon as the meeting began, the people below started to argue. Xu Jingyi sat at the head of the conference table, one hand propped against her head, listening to the clamor of the middle-aged men. Her complexion was not good; even with heavy makeup, the dark circles under her eyes and the undeniable weariness were visible.
She had anticipated this scene, so she said little, merely observing them quietly.
Before any conclusions could be reached, the conference room door suddenly opened. Xu Jingyi looked up to see Lin Ruoyan walking in from outside. Although she was alone, her presence was no less imposing.
The noisy conference room instantly fell silent. Lin Ruoyan scanned the room and walked to the first seat beside Xu Jingyi, stopping there. The sound of her high heels clicking on the floor resonated in everyone’s ears.
She hadn’t said a word, yet the person originally in that seat wisely moved aside.
“Thank you,” she said unsmilingly, simply polite, then sat down in the seat without ceremony, her back straight and her demeanor cold.
“Am I late? Where were we in the discussion?” Once settled, she clasped her hands on the table, seemingly addressing everyone, but her eyes were fixed on Xu Jingyi.
Xu Jingyi maintained her original posture. To be honest, Lin Ruoyan’s arrival was unexpected; she hadn’t been invited to the meeting, yet here she was.
Today’s meeting was a board meeting, and Lin Ruoyan held 10% of the group’s shares. Her presence here was perfectly legitimate. Not inviting her had already been excessive; now, it was impossible to drive her away.
“No, you’ve arrived just in time. We haven’t started yet,” Xu Jingyi said, narrowing her eyes slightly. She had assumed Lin Ruoyan, having just returned from abroad, would have no established power base, but it now appeared to be quite the opposite.
“Good, let’s begin then,” Lin Ruoyan said, following Xu Jingyi’s lead, and looked at the row of people opposite her one by one.
No one spoke for a moment. Xu Jingyi tapped her nails on the wooden table, drawing everyone’s attention to her. “Everyone, please share your thoughts.”
Just as people were about to speak, she tapped the table again, this time with more force. “One at a time.”
It was silent for almost another minute before someone cleared their throat. “Mr. Lin’s accident is something none of us wished to see, but the Lin Group has been without a leader for so long, and many projects are now stalled. If this continues, it will turn into a complete mess. Therefore, the top priority now is to appoint someone who can lead us all forward. Since Mr. Lin is gone, this person should rightfully be Mrs. Lin.”
“Yes, but the Lin Group has been managed by Mr. Lin for so many years. Mrs. Lin has never been involved in group affairs. It might not be appropriate for Mrs. Lin to take over abruptly,” he paused, then continued, “Mr. Lin’s sister, Ruoyan, studied abroad and worked there for several years, gaining rich management experience. I think Ruoyan is the right person.”
“Well said. Besides, the Lin Group is surnamed Lin,” someone else chimed in as soon as he finished, as if they had rehearsed their lines. “The person in charge must also be surnamed Lin.”
“Hmph! Don’t forget who holds the most shares right now. If the head of the Lin Group has to be surnamed Lin, then we might as well change it to the Xu Group.”
This remark was like lighting a spark in an already explosive room, and someone immediately erupted. “Madam, isn’t your behavior a bit too unseemly?”
Upon hearing this, Xu Jingyi looked at the person with interest. Her face, even in its fatigued state, was so beautiful it was almost intimidating. Her voice, though not loud, carried immense pressure. “Director Zhang, I didn’t say that. Please explain to me exactly what you mean by ‘unseemly behavior’?”
“Does it matter who said it? I can’t imagine anyone daring to say such a thing unless it was at your instigation, Madam.” The person scoffed but did avert his gaze, mainly because her eyes were captivating. Who knew how many people in the room had been seduced by her beauty.
“Director Zhang, you can eat anything, but you can’t say anything. If you don’t have evidence, I can sue you for defamation,” she said with a smiling expression.
The so-called Director Zhang was speechless, blocked by her words. He changed the subject again. “Well, if Mrs. Xu doesn’t mean that, then she shouldn’t occupy the position.”
“Then who does Director Zhang think is suitable?”
“Naturally, Miss Lin. Mr. Lin had charisma and led us to break new ground. Miss Lin is also a top student with advanced management experience; she is naturally the most suitable person.”
“Oh? Ruoyan, is that so?”
Lin Ruoyan maintained her expressionless demeanor. Hearing Xu Jingyi’s question, she nodded faintly. “Sister-in-law, if everyone trusts me, I will naturally not disappoint your expectations.”
Both sides’ intentions were now crystal clear. Xu Jingyi’s gaze swept across everyone. Though she showed no outward sign, she was already getting a headache.
She knew there would be resistance, but she hadn’t expected Lin Ruoyan, who had just returned from abroad, to gain the support of almost half the people. What was already a troublesome situation was now even harder to handle.
Moreover, with Lin Ruofeng’s recent passing, if she asserted herself too strongly and faced too much opposition, subsequent matters would be difficult to manage.
The conference room fell silent. Xu Jingyi feigned rubbing her temples. “Let’s take a short break, and then we’ll continue.”
