- Chapter 4 - Let's take a break for a while, and continue later
Lin Ruofeng’s incident happened suddenly, and it took a long time to handle everything before and after. By the time his funeral was over, the corporation was in complete chaos.
After just one day of rest, Xu Jingyi had to go to the Lin Corporation to take control of the situation. At this moment, the conference room was packed with people. Because Lin Ruofeng had suddenly passed away, several factions within the corporation that had been well-balanced were now trying to take advantage of the chaos to fish for some benefits.
As soon as the meeting began, the people below started arguing. Xu Jingyi sat at the head of the conference table, resting her head on one hand while listening to the quarrels of the middle-aged men. Her expression was not good; despite the heavy makeup, the dark circles under her eyes and her undeniable fatigue were still visible.
She had already anticipated such a scene unfolding today, so she didn’t say much now, just quietly watching them.
Before they could reach any conclusion, the conference room door suddenly swung open. Xu Jingyi looked up to see Lin Ruoyan walking in from outside. Although she was alone, her presence was anything but weak.
The noisy conference room fell silent in an instant. Lin Ruoyan scanned the room and walked to the first seat beside Xu Jingyi, stopping there. The sound of her high heels striking the floor reverberated in the eardrums of everyone present.
She hadn’t said anything yet, but the person who was originally sitting there had already moved aside out of courtesy.
“Thank you.”
She didn’t crack a smile, only observed the basic courtesies, then sat down in her seat without any hesitation, her back straight, looking cold and aloof.
“Did I arrive late?”
“Where have you all reached in your discussion?”
After she sat down, she crossed her hands on the table, as if speaking to everyone, but her eyes were indeed fixed on Xu Jingyi.
Xu Jingyi maintained her original posture. To be honest, she hadn’t expected Lin Ruoyan to come. The meeting hadn’t invited her, but now she was already here.
Today is the board meeting, and Lin Ruoyan holds 10% of the group’s shares. It is only natural for her to be here at this moment. Not inviting her to the meeting was already quite unreasonable, and now it is even more impossible to drive her away.
“No, you’re just in time; we haven’t started yet.”
Xu Jingyi slightly squinted her eyes and spoke calmly, she thought Lin Ruoyan had just returned to the country and should have no foundation, but now it seems completely different.
“Alright, let’s get started,” Lin Ruoyan replied to Xu Jingyi’s words, glancing at the row of people across from her.
For now, no one had spoken. Xu Jingyi tapped her nails on the wooden table, drawing everyone’s attention to her. “Everyone, please share your opinions.”
Everyone was just about to speak, but she tapped the table again, this time with a bit more force, “One at a time.”
After another minute of silence, someone finally cleared their throat, “Mr. Lin’s accident is something no one wanted to see, but it’s been a long time since anyone has been making decisions for Lin Company. Many projects are now at a standstill, and if this continues, things will be in complete disarray. So the urgent task now is to appoint someone who can lead us all forward. With Mr. Lin gone, this person should rightfully be Mrs. Lin.”
“Yes, but for so many years, it has always been Mr. Lin managing Lin’s Corporation. Mrs. Lin has never been involved in the group’s affairs. It might not be very appropriate for Mrs. Lin to accept this suddenly.”
He paused for a moment and then said, “Mr. Lin’s sister, Ruoyan, has studied abroad and worked there for several years. She already has rich management experience. I think Ruoyan is the right person.”
“Well said, besides, the Lin Corporation has the surname Lin.”
His words had barely landed when someone else chimed in, as if they had rehearsed the lines in advance, “The one in power must also have the surname Lin.”
“Hmph! Don’t forget, who holds the most shares now? If the head of the Lin Corporation has the surname Lin, then it might as well be changed to the Xu Corporation.”
As soon as these words were spoken, it was as if a spark had been ignited in a space already filled with explosives, and instantly someone exploded, “Madam, isn’t your manner a bit too unseemly?”
Xu Jingyi, upon hearing this, looked at the other person with great interest. Even in a state of fatigue, her face was so beautiful that it made one hesitant to look directly at her. Although her voice was not loud, her words carried a strong sense of pressure.
“Director Zhang, this is not something I said. Please explain to me what you mean by saying I have a manner a bit too unseemly.”
“Does it matter who said it? I can’t imagine how anyone would dare to say such a thing unless the Madam had instructed them to.” The person snorted coldly and withdrew their gaze, mainly because the other person’s eyes were mesmerizing, and it was hard to tell how many people present had been seduced by her beauty.
“Director Zhang, you can eat whatever you want, but you can’t just say anything. If you don’t have evidence, I can sue you for defamation.”She said with a smile.
The so-called Director Zhang was rendered speechless by her, but then he changed his tone and said, “If Mrs. Xu doesn’t mean it, then she shouldn’t be occupying the position.”
“Then who does Director Zhang think is suitable?”
“Of course, it’s Miss Lin. Mr. Lin has the determination to lead us to success, and Miss Lin is not only a top student but also has advanced management experience. She is naturally the most suitable person.”
“Oh? Ruoyan, is it?”
Lin Ruoyan still had that expressionless look on her face. Upon hearing Xu Jingyi’s question, she nodded lightly and said, “Sister-in-law, if everyone trusts me, I will naturally live up to everyone’s expectations.”
The intentions of both sides have been made very clear. Xu Jingyi scanned the crowd with her eyes; although it didn’t show on her face, she was already feeling a bit of a headache.”
She knew there would be resistance to this matter, but she didn’t expect that Lin Ruoyan, who had just returned to the country, could actually garner support from almost half of the people. What was already a troublesome issue was now becoming even harder to handle.
Moreover, Lin Ruofeng had just left. If she were too aggressive and faced too much opposition, it would be difficult to handle the subsequent matters.
The meeting room was silent, and Xu Jingyi pretended to rub her temples, “Let’s take a break for a while, and continue later.”
