My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 5
She stood up and left the conference room. A moment later, the conference room grew noisy again, as people left in groups of two or three to smoke. Xu Jingyi couldn’t stand the smell of smoke; Lin Ruofeng had doted on her, so the entire building was smoke-free.
She had just entered her office when the door was pushed open from behind by Lin Ruoyan. Uninvited, Lin Ruoyan calmly sat down across from the desk under Xu Jingyi’s gaze.
Xu Jingyi knew she would come, so she wasn’t overly surprised.
“Sister-in-law,” Lin Ruoyan called her, her face cold. “I’ll get straight to the point. What are your thoughts?”
The Lin Group’s businesses were widely distributed. Besides some legitimate ventures, there were also gray areas, and before Lin Ruofeng’s accident, Xu Jingyi managed many matters he found inconvenient to handle personally.
According to Xu Jingyi’s previous intentions, after Lin Ruofeng’s death, she would fully manage the entire enterprise. Regardless of the type, both she and Lin Ruofeng had built it from the ground up, so how could she simply hand it over to someone else?
Those who claimed she, as a woman, didn’t understand management were talking nonsense. It was simply inconvenient for the matters she handled secretly to be publicly associated with the Lin Group, which was why on the surface, it seemed she hadn’t participated in Lin’s operations at all.
Lin Ruoyan’s return had been slow, so her attitude was unexpected, and even more so was the attitude of the board of directors.
Her shareholding and Lin Ruoyan’s shareholding weren’t significantly different. Legally, she would inherit all of Lin Ruofeng’s shares, giving her an absolute advantage in terms of ownership.
However, the board’s attitude was crucial for future management. Her shares weren’t enough to make all decisions unilaterally. While it appeared half the board supported her, it was hard to tell what their true intentions were.
Moreover, if she were to forcefully take over the Lin Group immediately after Lin Ruofeng’s death, it might lead some to suspect his death and re-open an investigation. This was also her reason for pausing the meeting.
“What are your thoughts, Ruoyan?” The room temperature was pleasant, and Xu Jingyi had escaped the male-dominated space. After entering, she had taken off her jacket and hung it aside, now wearing only a long dress.
She had always favored a sexy style, and today was no exception. To conceal her fatigue, she wore heavy makeup and a vibrant outfit. Now, leaning languidly in the large office chair, she was a captivating sight.
Lin Ruoyan’s expression remained unchanged, and she didn’t beat around the bush. “Sister-in-law should know clearly that we are family. We don’t know what those outsiders are thinking, so we should stand united now.”
Xu Jingyi curled her lips, asking with interest, “Oh?”
“Sister-in-law is a smart person; you should know what I’m talking about. There’s no need to pretend to be foolish with me.” Lin Ruoyan leaned forward slightly. “As long as the two of us can reach an agreement, those outsiders will naturally have nothing to say.”
“Those outsiders, every single one of them, whether they support me or you, either think sister-in-law knows nothing, or they see that I’m still young and easy to deceive.”
Xu Jingyi remained silent, continuing to observe her. She was gaining a new understanding of her sister-in-law, who was not as naive as she had initially thought.
“I haven’t heard about my brother’s previous ventures, but I am confident I can quickly get up to speed,” she paused. “Sister-in-law can hold all of brother’s shares; I won’t take a single one. But I want to be the Lin Group’s supreme decision-maker.”
Lin Ruoyan made a significant concession because she could only investigate the truth and come into contact with people connected to her brother by participating in the Lin Group’s operations. She didn’t mind taking a loss.
“Are you saying… you want me to be a mascot?” Xu Jingyi slowly spoke, her expression unreadable as to whether she was satisfied with Lin Ruoyan’s terms.
“Sister-in-law just needs to comfortably enjoy her due dividends, no extra worries.” She didn’t answer directly but implicitly admitted it.
Xu Jingyi continued to ask, “Why should I trust you? How can you guarantee you won’t stab me in the back? Besides, my direct management might not necessarily be worse than yours.”
“Furthermore, everyone knows very well that, in terms of shareholding, I am the most qualified person to sit in this position.”
This question wouldn’t have an answer until a decision was reached. Lin Ruoyan thought for a moment. “We can manage different businesses, like you and my brother used to, which would also be safer.”
“Sister-in-law should clearly understand that this is the best solution for both of us.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Xu Jingyi smoothed her long hair. “So, Ruoyan is genuinely willing to give all of Ruofeng’s shares to me?”
Lin Ruoyan paused in silence. “Those shares rightfully belong to sister-in-law. I just want to protect everything my brother worked hard for.”
“And what else?”
“What?”
“What else do you want?”
Lin Ruoyan’s hands under the table clenched tightly, but her face remained calm. “There’s nothing else I want. Sister-in-law just needs to agree to my proposal.”
Xu Jingyi didn’t agree immediately. She thought for a while before speaking again. “I have one last request. If you can agree to it, I’ll accept your proposal.”
“What request?” Lin Ruoyan’s brows furrowed slightly. She had already made many concessions, yet the other party was still pushing.
“You have to live with me in the main residence. You can’t move out.”
Lin Ruoyan’s frown deepened. Her thoughts turned a few corners, and she understood the other party’s intention.
After Lin Ruofeng’s accident, not only was the Lin Group unsettled, but the other businesses were also restless. While it was true that Xu Jingyi managed those businesses, many of the people involved had built them up together with Lin Ruofeng, making it unclear whether they respected Xu Jingyi more or Lin Ruofeng more.
Those people valued loyalty more. Her living with Xu Jingyi would serve as an endorsement, giving Xu Jingyi the time and confidence to reorganize the management of these businesses and ensure a smooth transition.
“For how long?” She couldn’t live with her indefinitely. If this condition hadn’t been made, she would have moved out in a few days.
“One year.” Lin Ruoyan’s answer also confirmed Xu Jingyi’s guess.
“Deal,” Lin Ruoyan said.
