My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 6
Once the two had reached an agreement, the rest of the meeting proceeded very efficiently. Xu Jingyi became the chairperson, and Lin Ruoyan took on the role of group president, overseeing all group affairs. Xu Jingyi would only attend board meetings and would not be present at the company otherwise.
Xu Jingyi left in the middle of the afternoon, leaving the remaining finishing touches entirely to Lin Ruoyan.
Xu Jingyi wasn’t worried about Lin Ruoyan’s ability to handle things. After leaving, she went straight to a wellness spa. She had been working too hard recently and looked quite worn out today; she knew she needed some pampering.
The spa had a Chinese style, with a beautiful courtyard, pavilions, and waterside structures at the entrance. Inside was a five-story mansion. As soon as she entered, someone greeted her and, gesturing the way, said, “Madam Lin, please come this way.”
The address made her frown slightly, but her expression recovered so quickly that almost no one noticed. She nodded at the greeter and followed.
She was led to a private room. As per custom, a therapist came to attend to her. After the initial preparations were done and the therapist left, she was resting with her eyes closed when the door gently opened, and the spa owner entered.
“Madam, you’ve arrived,” said the newcomer, also a woman, slightly older than Xu Jingyi. She wore a well-fitted qipao, and her hair was styled up, perfectly matching the shop’s aesthetic.
“Mmm,” Xu Jingyi hummed softly. “Chu Yao, anything new lately?”
The woman named Chu Yao stood respectfully by her side. Hearing Xu Jingyi’s question, she replied, “Madam, there were a few minor issues, but I’ve already handled them. There are no problems for now.”
Xu Jingyi showed no reaction after hearing this. She lightly parted her lips. “Mmm, the current period is quite sensitive. Keep a close watch and don’t let anything go wrong.”
Chu Yao nodded and respectfully said, “Madam’s previous instructions are etched in my mind. Please rest assured, Madam, there won’t be any problems.”
Xu Jingyi hummed again. “If there’s nothing else, you can leave first. Call Ah Qing back in.” Ah Qing was the therapist.
Chu Yao thought for a moment, then bit her lip and said, “My condolences regarding Mr. Lin’s matter.”
“I know,” Xu Jingyi probably guessed she would say this. The people she managed hadn’t attended Lin Ruofeng’s funeral to avoid suspicion. “Chu Yao, don’t overthink it. Continue doing business as you always have.”
Chu Yao had been about to ask precisely that. Xu Jingyi understood and gave a clear answer, so Chu Yao said no more. “Then, Madam, please continue. I’ll call Ah Qing in.”
Xu Jingyi hummed, and Chu Yao left. Her presence here was a signal, and once she released this information, the others would know what to do.
There was nothing else to do afterwards. Xu Jingyi finished her facial and skincare routine, then went to have a meal.
In the past, Lin Ruofeng would always accompany her. Eating alone now felt bland and unappetizing. Her overall spirits were low, and after eating a little, she went home.
Lin Ruofeng’s accident was sudden, and she had been busy before, so she wasn’t used to living alone. Although an assistant would sometimes accompany her, she always felt an empty discomfort in her heart, though she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was bothering her.
When she got home, Lin Ruoyan had already returned. She was sitting at the dining table, where dishes were laid out. She hadn’t started eating yet, still tapping away on her laptop, appearing as if she were… waiting for her.
Before Xu Jingyi had even finished changing her shoes, Lin Ruoyan closed her laptop. “Sister-in-law, you’re back? I just finished my work and haven’t eaten yet. Have you eaten, sister-in-law? Want to eat together?”
Two sets of chopsticks and bowls were on the table, clearly indicating she was waiting, but her words suggested otherwise—a clumsy excuse, but effective nonetheless.
Xu Jingyi walked over and sat down at the empty place setting, picking up her chopsticks. “I haven’t either. Let’s eat together.”
“Okay, sister-in-law, please,” Lin Ruoyan replied, polite and composed, yet cold.
Having just gone through the morning’s events, plus Lin Ruoyan not being a talkative person and Xu Jingyi feeling somewhat fatigued, the atmosphere was naturally not warm. They ate quietly, with only the occasional clinking of chopsticks and dishes in the entire living room.
Xu Jingyi had already eaten earlier, so she only ate a symbolic amount and finished quickly.
After dinner, Xu Jingyi was about to return to her room when Lin Ruoyan called out to her, “Sister-in-law, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”
“What is it?” Xu Jingyi had guessed Lin Ruoyan had something to say when she called her for dinner earlier, but she hadn’t expected her to wait so long to speak.
Lin Ruoyan cleared her throat. “Since sister-in-law requested that I live at home, and I only have a bedroom and no study, could you suggest a convenient room I could use as a study for a year?”
Xu Jingyi was taken aback; she hadn’t expected this.
It was actually a very small matter. This wasn’t just her and Lin Ruofeng’s home, but also Lin Ruoyan’s. However, Lin Ruoyan had been away for many years, only staying occasionally, which was why she only had a bedroom—located right next to Xu Jingyi’s.
If she wanted a study, she could have simply asked the housekeeper to prepare one for her, yet she chose to ask Xu Jingyi.
This showed Lin Ruoyan’s attitude towards her.
She thought for a moment and said, “Ruoyan, just use whichever room you find convenient. This is your home too; there’s no need to be so distant.”
“Then thank you, sister-in-law,” Lin Ruoyan replied, without commenting on Xu Jingyi’s last sentence, simply offering a brief thanks. “Sister-in-law, get some rest early.”
Afterward, they both returned to their respective rooms, and the night passed without another word.
