My Sister-In-Law Has Impure Intentions (GL) - Chapter 8
At three in the afternoon, after her meeting, Lin Ruoyan went directly to the location she had agreed upon with Xu Jingyi. The evening banquet was important for both of them. Lin Ruoyan needed this formal appearance, and Xu Jingyi needed to let the outside world know about their relationship.
Even without Lin Ruofeng, the Lin family was still the Lin family.
When Lin Ruoyan arrived, Xu Jingyi was almost ready and was in the fitting room changing.
“Xiao Li, could you please come in and help me with the zipper on the back?” Lin Ruoyan heard Xu Jingyi’s voice as she entered. She thought for a moment, waved her hand to stop Xiao Li, and slipped into the fitting room herself.
Xu Jingyi had her back to Lin Ruoyan, so she didn’t know who had entered. The back of the dress was quite open, revealing almost her entire back.
She had a full figure, yet the places that should be slender were indeed slender. Her exposed back showed prominent shoulder blades, poised as if to take flight, and below them, a dimple of Venus, rarely seen on women.
“Sister-in-law, it’s me,” Lin Ruoyan said as she walked closer.
Xu Jingyi heard her voice and spun around abruptly. She didn’t appear flustered despite her disheveled attire, just a little puzzled. “Why are you here?”
“I’m here to help you, sister-in-law.” Lin Ruoyan walked behind Xu Jingyi, one hand on the zipper and the other pulling at the bottom of the dress. “Sister-in-law probably doesn’t want rumors spreading that we’re not getting along, right?”
At this, Xu Jingyi understood. Indeed, this wasn’t just her styling team; many women from her social circle came here. Putting on a show outside wasn’t enough; if someone was truly malicious, this place could also become a surveillance point.
“Then I’ll trouble you, Ruoyan,” Xu Jingyi said. She didn’t think it was a big deal; she and Lin Ruoyan were both women, and such actions between women were fine. It wasn’t like it was a brother-in-law who needed to avoid suspicion.
“No trouble,” Lin Ruoyan replied, zipping up the dress and stepping back. “There, sister-in-law.”
Xu Jingyi released her hands from her chest, stretched her waist, and spun around beside Lin Ruoyan. “How is it?”
She was a mature woman, and her style was even more so. The gown she chose was a vibrant red, sexy design. Lin Ruoyan had been standing behind her, and Xu Jingyi’s hands had been covering her chest, so she hadn’t seen the front clearly before.
Now that she saw it, her eyes lit up involuntarily. The color of the dress, on its own, might have seemed a bit gaudy, but on Xu Jingyi, it looked just right—striking but not vulgar, very suitable for her.
But quickly, her gaze darkened. Her brother had only recently passed away, and she was, in essence, a recent widow. It was neither proper nor reasonable to wear such a “flashy” dress. Was she so eager to find someone new?
“Sister-in-law, isn’t this dress a bit much?” she said, her voice a little low. It wasn’t overtly direct, but she believed Xu Jingyi would understand.
Xu Jingyi’s smile froze. She looked down at herself. “Is there a problem? I’ve always dressed like this.”
Today’s banquet was important. She needed to be elegantly dressed. So many people were watching her after Lin Ruofeng’s death. She had been low-key recently, but today she had to make a strong impression.
She didn’t understand. Lin Ruoyan received that message. She held back for a while before finally saying, “Brother just passed away recently. I don’t think sister-in-law should be dressed so brightly today.”
Her words made Xu Jingyi pause. She hadn’t thought about these things; she had been too busy recently, and her preparations for today’s banquet followed her old habits, with no room for extra considerations.
However, she also didn’t think there was anything wrong with her attire. Firstly, she was going to a banquet, not a funeral; she could wear whatever she wanted. Secondly, Lin Ruofeng had died, but her life would continue. If she remained constantly affected by this, how would she live her future?
Finally, Lin Ruoyan was her sister-in-law in name, but in reality, they only had a cooperative relationship. What right did she have to say such a thing?
“Ruoyan, we’re going to a banquet today, not a funeral,” Xu Jingyi said, still smiling, but her words were now very direct. “There’s nothing else I need help with here. If you have nothing else to do, Ruoyan, you can leave first.”
Lin Ruoyan hadn’t expected her seemingly gentle sister-in-law to speak so sharply. Her face flushed then paled, her expression shifting. She had only meant to offer a reminder, but with Xu Jingyi’s words, she also felt angry. “Sister-in-law is not yet separated from the Lin family, not yet establishing her own household. Perhaps don’t be too eager.”
Eager for what? Eager to find the next person!
The implicit meaning of her words was very clear and immediately understandable. Xu Jingyi’s expression also turned cold. “Legally, I am single now, so whether I’m eager or not is not something Ruoyan needs to worry about for me.”
Neither woman backed down, and the atmosphere chilled to an ice point. Lin Ruoyan snorted coldly and turned to leave the fitting room. “I was merely offering a reminder. Sister-in-law, take care of yourself.”
Xu Jingyi spoke from behind her: “Wait.”
Lin Ruoyan’s hand, pressing on the doorknob, stopped.
“There’s often trouble at a widow’s door. If you still consider me your sister-in-law, Ruoyan, please choose your words carefully in the future.”
“I don’t want any rumors to originate from you, Ruoyan.”
