My Sister Likes My Sister - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: I Want to Hear Your Promise
Waiting by the tree for the rabbit wasn’t a good strategy, but Yu Si-yan couldn’t exactly put a “missing person” notice on her forehead. And even if she did, would the other person even see it?
She asked Guan Xianglin, “How do you meet a one-night stand for a second time?”
“First, I don’t have one-night stands,” Guan Xianglin, who was scarily monogamous when in a relationship, corrected her strictly. “Second, you can add them on WeChat.”
Yu Si-yan wanted to curse. “If I had their contact information, why would I be asking you?”
Guan Xianglin said “Oh,” and looked at her with a complete lack of sympathy. “Then it’s up to fate.”
“What if there’s no fate?” Yu Si-yan bit her lower lip, surprisingly a little nervous.
“Then what’s there to say?” Guan Xianglin looked at her strangely. “You’ll naturally meet someone with whom you have a fate.”
This was Guan Xianglin’s philosophy on love—both deeply sentimental and emotionally detached. Yu Si-yan was speechless for a moment, actually convinced by her logic.
But when she found herself back in the bar, facing a drink sent over by another girl, she just smiled, raised her chin, and politely refused.
The girl across from her looked a bit dejected but didn’t give up. “Why won’t you take it, sis?”
The plea was so pitiful. Yu Si-yan had always been tender-hearted and would agree to almost anything that didn’t involve physical contact. Looking at the girl’s shimmering eyes and the glowing QR code for her WeChat, she almost gave in, but she still smiled faintly and said, “Well, I’m thinking of settling down.”
“!” This explosive news sparked more discussion than Yu Si-yan’s usual dates. The girl across from her, trying to hide her excitement, nodded with feigned regret. As soon as she turned around, she started typing faster than she could count money.
Countless group chats were probably going to hit 99+ new messages tonight.
Yu Si-yan just smiled and took a sip of her drink. As the liquor went down, her eyes scanned over the crowd and caught sight of a familiar figure.
Even from the back, she couldn’t forget the silhouette she had traced and outlined under that thin sweater. She could clearly recall every detail of her bones and muscles at her fingertips.
At this very moment, something similar was happening in front of that person. But a little while later, the person actually sat down across from her.
With such a beautiful face, it wasn’t surprising she was approached, even if she was a little cold.
But why was she so willing to accept?
The distance was too great. Yu Si-yan could only see the girl across from Shen Jianlan smiling more and more brightly, and Yu Si-yan’s own gaze grew colder.
Like mint steeped in ice water, her foxy eyes became calm, but the smile on her lips grew brighter, like a neon sign becoming more vivid in the night.
Suddenly, she calmly got up and took a few steps to stand behind Shen Jianlan, keeping a close but not too close distance. She just crossed her arms and smiled confidently.
The girl across from Shen Jianlan was instantly flustered. Even if she didn’t know Yu Si-yan, she had heard the gossip from the past few days. Combined with such a powerful and assertive presence, she quickly realized she might have messed with the wrong person.
Shen Jianlan, however, didn’t seem to feel the heat behind her. She just slowly held her glass, neither drinking nor speaking, as if waiting for something.
The girl across from her made a couple of perfunctory excuses and cleared out, leaving Yu Si-yan to take her seat. The chair was still warm, and she frowned slightly, disliking the traces left by others.
Shen Jianlan, however, wasn’t surprised. She just looked up at her, then quickly looked down again. “What a coincidence.”
This bland attitude reminded Yu Si-yan of soda that had been left open for too long, leaving only the tasteless flavor of ice cubes. She couldn’t grasp the lingering hint of sweetness.
She stared at the other woman, a laugh escaping her throat. “Hmm, haven’t seen you in a few days. I’m sorry to interrupt your date, sis.”
Shen Jianlan looked directly at her. “I’m not on a date.”
Yu Si-yan’s long fingers swirled the edge of her glass. She looked up and gave a charming smile. “Well, you are now.”
A drumbeat from the bar’s music hit hard, and it echoed just as heavily in Shen Jianlan’s heart. Her drinking rhythm was off for a beat, and she lowered her eyes again.
No rejection meant tacit agreement.
Yu Si-yan made the first move and stood up. “Sis, should we change seats?”
There was no hint of a question, but the corner of her eyes were soft.
Shen Jianlan stood up with her. Yu Si-yan returned to her usual booth, which was, by coincidence, the exact seat where they had first met.
As her hips touched the slightly cool surface of the seat, Yu Si-yan finally relaxed, taking a small sip of the sweetness spreading in her drink.
The obsession of the past few days was finally satisfied. The person she had been thinking about was sitting right in front of her, like waiting in line for hours and finally snatching the last warm and delicious pastry before anyone else could.
The joy in her heart was so great she was in no rush to taste the freshly baked pastry. Instead, she stared at the “pastry,” admiring it.
Staring at someone was rude, no matter what. But Yu Si-yan’s foxy eyes were slightly curved, her red lips lightly pursed, her black hair hanging straight down to her shoulders, complementing her porcelain-like face. Her shifting gaze was full of charm, yet it also gave off an innocent, naive vibe.
It was as if a fox had just left its den in the deep mountains but had already secretly cultivated its skills for a few hundred years. She had traveled a thousand miles to find the beautiful woman she wanted to repay, but when she finally found her, she just stood by her side, licking her paws, quiet and obedient like a pet.
Shen Jianlan knew that the person across from her was a seductive little fox, but she couldn’t help but soften under that pure and harmless gaze. She felt an urge to ruffle the little fox’s head.
Just as she was about to say something, Yu Si-yan spoke first in a slightly wronged tone, “Sis, where have you been these past few days?”
Shen Jianlan: “…”
Having gotten what she wanted, Yu Si-yan pressed on. “Sis, I waited for you at the hotel until the sun went down that day…”
But all she had waited for was a delivery robot.
She swallowed the second half of the sentence, her long fingers lightly tapping the table, a fleeting hint of loneliness in her eyes at just the right moment.
Shen Jianlan recalled their time together for a few seconds, intentionally skipping over the broken fragments, only searching her memory for any words of a plan.
There were none, of course.
She didn’t say much, and while Yu Si-yan talked a lot in bed, it was limited to straightforward, ambiguous content. As for plans for the next day, they had both tacitly avoided the subject.
They didn’t even add each other’s contact information.
But conversely, since it was an unspoken agreement, there was no default understanding that she could just disappear the next day.
Shen Jianlan felt she couldn’t defend herself. She said faintly, “I’m sorry…”
She was still trying to decide whether to add “I don’t have much experience” when Yu Si-yan suddenly stood up, her waist bending into a beautiful arch. With a gentle stretch of her arm, the fingertips that had been caressing the wine glass were now lightly touching her lips.
Yu Si-yan adjusted the angle. The edge of her manicured nail created a slight indentation on Shen Jianlan’s lip, which instantly disappeared. Finally, she pressed the fleshy pad of her finger directly onto the center of her lips.
She blinked and said lightly, “I’m not looking for an apology.”
Shen Jianlan was as if under a spell, just staring at her blankly. The temperature she felt on her lips was a little cool, as if the shape of a drink filled with ice cubes was pressed firmly against her mouth.
Instinctively, she remembered the intimacy of that night. And this very finger pressing on her lips had once roamed freely over other parts of her body.
Shen Jianlan lowered her eyes, avoiding Yu Si-yan’s increasingly bold gaze, but the base of her ears couldn’t help but turn red.
As she relaxed a little, Yu Si-yan’s fingertip also slightly parted her lips, even tangling with her teeth.
Just like that night.
Shen Jianlan took the opportunity to bite gently. Yu Si-yan let out a small hiss, discreetly pulled her hand away, and gave her a winking smile.
The implication was obvious.
Without a single word, Shen Jianlan seemed to understand.
She took a deep breath, asking a pointless question as if to continue their flirtation, “Then what do you want to hear?”
Her gaze crossed the table, and Yu Si-yan said softly, “I want to hear your promise.”
A promise of what? Shen Jianlan was wise enough not to ask again.
She tried tentatively, “Then… I’ll leave a note next time before I go?”
But she had already ordered the delivery and thought of everything, so it wasn’t really a sudden disappearance.
It was just that when she woke up in the morning, the curtains were closed, the room was dark, but the light outside was bright.
She didn’t know how this kind of relationship was supposed to exist in the bright light of day. She had tossed and turned for a long time before choosing to leave first.
Between two people, one of them always had to be the first to leave.
Otherwise, it would be too polite to walk out the door and then part ways.
Yu Si-yan: “…”
As if listening to a ridiculous answer from a new intern, she patiently guided her. “Is there a chance you could tell me in person?”
Shen Jianlan looked up. The woman across from her was smiling, her eyes showing no sadness or reluctance to part.
The brief moment of hurt was all an act, so it disappeared just as logically as it appeared.
For some reason, Shen Jianlan felt a vague sense of disappointment.
She said softly, “Okay.”
She had thought Yu Si-yan would ask for something more outrageous, like… “don’t leave.”
It turned out she just wanted a proper goodbye.
That made sense. Since she had just left, it must have taken Yu Si-yan some effort to find her again.
Lin City was so big, being able to meet a second time was definitely not a one-sided coincidence.
Yu Si-yan smiled, very pleased. “Thank you, sis.”
With that, she downed the drink in her glass. She tilted her head back so much that her white neck was completely exposed to Shen Jianlan’s eyes.
There was still a faint red mark on it, almost invisible to the naked eye.
It seemed like it was time to deepen that mark tonight.
When the drink was gone, Yu Si-yan gently pushed the glass aside. Shen Jianlan silently drank hers as well.
They paid and left. This time, it wasn’t snowing outside.
The time wasn’t too late, but in Lin City, which had no nightlife, it was still difficult to get a taxi.
Although it was in the south, the winter nights in Lin City were still chilling.
Shen Jianlan wrapped her coat tighter. As the alcohol’s warmth evaporated in the cold wind, her lips quickly turned white.
How strange. Why wasn’t it this cold last time? She sluggishly tried to remember what was missing.
Suddenly, her palm grew warm. Yu Si-yan had naturally taken her hand, clasping it a little tighter.
It was the same familiar route. Walking it a second time, Yu Si-yan still held her hand, not letting go the entire way.
Just like the most considerate of lovers.
