My Unconventional Online Dating - Chapter 40
“No need, I can handle it in two days.”
Ji Rongxue’s current condition didn’t allow for further delays. She needed to figure out what exactly had happened to her.
Given Ji Rongxue’s already fragile health, if she remained depressed for too long, it could lead to serious problems.
“Go ahead, go ahead,” Lian Qiushui joked. “I’ll log you out for you.”
It was better to log out sooner rather than later—otherwise, she might end up throwing a tantrum to stop Xiao Nianyuan from leaving.
The next day, Xiao Nianyuan heard Ji Rongxue getting up and followed suit. She wanted to shadow Ji Rongxue to see if she could uncover who her roommate had met that day.
For two days, Xiao Nianyuan trailed Ji Rongxue, but Ji Rongxue didn’t go anywhere unusual—she just carried on with her usual routine. By the end of the second day, seeing that Ji Rongxue wasn’t sneaking off alone anymore, Xiao Nianyuan realized there was nothing more to uncover and gave up.
Over those two days, Ji Rongxue’s complexion had grown increasingly pale, and the dormitory atmosphere had turned stifling. None of the four roommates knew what to say.
Late at night, Xiao Nianyuan quietly logged back in using her device. Lian Qiushui was thrilled to see her online, but her excitement faded the moment she noticed Xiao Nianyuan’s expression.
“Didn’t things work out?”
Xiao Nianyuan nodded, frustrated and unsure how to resolve the situation. “I still don’t know who that person is.”
Lian Qiushui asked, “Can’t you just ask your roommate?”
Xiao Nianyuan had considered it, but Tan Xialan and Du Xiaotong weren’t certain either. Besides, they’d gone to great lengths to keep it from her—asking them directly wouldn’t yield answers.
Lian Qiushui pulled Xiao Nianyuan closer, placing her fingers on her wrist with exaggerated seriousness. “It’ll be resolved soon. Don’t worry.”
Xiao Nianyuan laughed. “Since when do you know how to read pulses?”
“Heaven’s secrets must not be revealed,” Lian Qiushui said mysteriously. “But trust me, this will be over before you know it.”
After spending some time online, Xiao Nianyuan’s mood improved significantly. She wanted to stay longer, but Lian Qiushui shooed her off to sleep.
–
Ji Rongxue had always been observant of Xiao Nianyuan, so there was no way she hadn’t noticed being followed.
She didn’t dare react, pretending everything was normal—attending classes, going to the library, acting as if nothing had ever happened.
After two days of being shadowed, Xiao Nianyuan finally stopped on the third day.
Before leaving campus this time, Ji Rongxue double-checked to ensure no one was following her. Confirming she was alone, she set off again.
This time, she wasn’t meeting Meng Xingwen. Since he refused to clear Xiao Nianyuan’s name, she had to find another way.
She hadn’t threatened him before, but if he wouldn’t cooperate, she had other methods. If he later complained to Xiao Nianyuan, so be it.
No matter what, she couldn’t let Xiao Nianyuan keep bearing the label of a fraud. The rumors at school were escalating—some even claimed Xiao Nianyuan had gotten into university through deception.
Ji Rongxue contacted all the victims Meng Xingwen had scammed and arranged to meet them at that secluded café.
She had compiled all the evidence and planned to take everyone to the police station to file a report.
While the individual amounts scammed weren’t large, the collective sum was enough to warrant legal action.
Meng Xingwen likely never expected his victims to unite—which was why he had kept each fraudulent transaction small.
They had transfer records and some evidence pointing to Meng Xingwen.
Although the chain of evidence wasn’t complete yet, the suspect was in the same school. If the police really pursued the investigation, they might quickly find decisive proof.
The café wasn’t on the main road—it required passing through a few narrow alleys. Just as Ji Rongxue was walking through one of them, she heard the sound of a car speeding up behind her.
Instinctively, she moved to the side of the road, only to realize the car was heading straight for her.
When the car hit her, she didn’t feel much pain—just a sense of bewilderment and regret.
She hadn’t even helped Xiao Nianyuan resolve the matter yet. How could she have gotten into an accident?
In her dazed state, she heard a vicious curse: “You deserve to die.”
