Episode 21: Rindou’s Day  

“Yes, yes… Thank you so much for everything. Yes, I’ll do my best, thank you.”

The next morning, Rindou called his part-time job to announce his resignation.

Originally, he had planned to call and then visit the store in person. But after the manager encouraged him with words like “Don’t worry about it” and “I’m glad your dream came true”, the resignation was finalized over the phone.

“This means I’ll need to bring a gift sometime soon.”

Rindou had jokingly talked with the manager about wanting to become a player and that he would quit once he did. But he honestly never thought it would become a reality. However, having received encouragement, Rindou now felt the need to focus on his work as a player.

“For now, it looks like it’ll be a back-and-forth between the gate for new players and the hospital.”

First thing in the morning, he would enter the gate for new players, hunt monsters, and spin the gacha. Then in the evening, he’d visit Kyoka at the hospital. It was a very simple schedule. But Rindou didn’t mind it at all.

“Now that I’ve become a player, this is my time to push forward. This isn’t the finish line, it’s just the beginning.”

With a determined heart, Rindou left the house and headed for the gate for new players.

When he arrived at Warehouse No. 7, Kyousuke was standing guard, just like yesterday.

“Good morning, Yada-san.”  

“Hey, good morning, Rindou-kun. Are you heading in already?” 

“Yeah, I think I’ll go in.”

Rindou answered, and he and Kyousuke entered the warehouse together.

“How long are you planning to stay today?”  

“Uh……/. probably around 10 hours?”  

“10 hours? That’s a long time. Well, if you’re not back after 10 hours, I’ll come looking for you.”

“What?! No, that’s unnecessary!”  

Rindou hadn’t expected Kyousuke to worry and come looking for him. So he hurriedly objected.

“No, no, it’s my job to protect important new players like you. Don’t worry about it.”  

“…I understand. I’ll be careful so I don’t cause any trouble.”

“That’s what I’d like to hear.”

When Rindou said that, Kyosuke replied jokingly.

“Well, I’m off.” 

“Take care.”

As they waved to each other, Rindou entered the gate.

Landing in the vast grassland, Rindou checked to make sure there were no monsters around before quickly checking his stats.

“…Well, obviously nothing’s changed since I haven’t done anything yet.”

After hunting monsters the day before, Rindou’s skill [Basic Swordsmanship] had increased to 60%. His goal for today was to get it to 100% and evolve it into a more advanced skill.

“Yesterday, I focused on hunting monsters in the eastern forest. So today I’ll head to the western rock formation.”

Though faint, he could see an area with exposed rock faces to the west. If there were forest monsters in the forest, there should be rock monsters in the rock formations, he thought.

“The dropped items will probably be different depending on the monsters. So it’s best to fight a variety of monsters to gain experience.”

If all he cared about was spinning the gacha, the forest would be a better place. He had already been fighting the same monsters for hours and had figured out how to battle them. However, Rindou was thinking not just about now but also about his future as a player.

“Today, I’ve brought a larger bag, so let’s go check it out!”

While hunting monsters, Rindou had been using potions. But whenever food dropped, he found it difficult to carry. So he had discarded it. However, food dropped in this other world was quite popular for its taste. And he honestly wanted to take some with him.

Fully prepared, Rindou gathered his resolve and set off toward the western rock formation.
