My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 30: Magic
Episode 30: Magic
“Hah… hah… hah… hah... Aaaaahhhh—I WONNNNNNN!”
With those words, Rindou collapsed onto the ground. He sprawled out in exhaustion.
Even with the enhanced physical abilities granted by his skill [Intermediate Swordsmanship], the intense battle had drained him completely.
It was a series of back-to-back battles, each one of them drawn out. They had left him utterly spent. It was a wonder he had lasted this long. And he felt he deserved a pat on the back for making it through.
But such thoughts were trivial to Rindou at the moment. What mattered most was the thrill of what awaited him next.
“Alright! I took down a ton of Soldier Ants and even the Queen Ant! There’s no way I won’t get a reward gacha for this! If I don’t, I swear I’m gonna be pissed!”
Rindou eagerly awaited the activation of his skill [Gacha]. He was watching with anticipation as a window appeared before him detailing a gacha roll of over 100 spins.
[You have obtained 27 items in total: rare equipment, rare items, equipment, and items. Please check the breakdown later.]
The number was smaller compared to the previous run. But Rindou found it reasonable and didn’t mind.
[You have gained skill proficiency. This will be reflected in your various skill levels.]
Again, the amount was small. But it didn’t bother him. The real excitement lay ahead.
[Special reward gacha for defeating your first hidden boss. You have acquired the defeated monster’s skill.]
“So that thing was a hidden boss?”
Rindou knew about the existence of hidden bosses. But he’d never heard of one appearing in a one-star gate.
Typically, one-star gates were for low-ranked novice players. If a hidden boss appeared, it would annihilate them in an instant.
In this case, had it not been Rindou, the Soldier Ants alone would have overrun any player before they even reached the Queen Ant.
“Please let it be a useful skill this time!”
Rindou’s interest wasn’t in the hidden boss itself but in the skill he would obtain.
From the Soldier Ants, he had acquired the [Resonance] skill. Which was useless when it was used alone. He desperately hoped for something more practical this time.
Would his wish come true?
[You have obtained the Queen Ant’s skill: [Basic Earth Magic].]
“No way! I can use magic now?”
Magic was a fantastical power said to be unattainable by mere training. It only became a reality after the gates appeared. And even then, only players gifted with magic skills could wield it.
The fact that Rindou had gained such a power made him burst into joyous laughter.
“…What does it feel like to use magic?”
Despite his exhaustion, his curiosity about using magic outweighed his fatigue. He sat up and inspected the [Basic Earth Magic] skill.
“………Consumes mana to activate. Do I even have mana?”
Having never used magic before, Rindou had no idea if he possessed mana.
Still, it was commonly believed that only those with mana could obtain magic-related skills.
“Then again, since I get skills through gacha, maybe I got it without having mana? No, that can’t be……… or could it?”
Scratching his head and crossing his arms, Rindou decided to stop overthinking it. He figured he’d know once he tried.
Though the number of spells he could use was limited to three, the fact that he could use any magic at all was enough to excite him.
“Alright, let’s give this a shot. Something simple to start with…… Yeah, this one.”
After taking a deep breath, Rindou thrust his right hand forward and chanted the spell’s name.
“[Earth Wall]!”
A brown magic circle appeared on the ground. And from it rose a thick earthen wall, about 30 centimeters thick.
The wall stood two meters high and about one meter wide—sturdy enough to fully conceal an average adult without issue.
“…Ugh, I suddenly feel completely drained,”
Rindou muttered as he lay back down, letting out a deep sigh. He began recalling what he knew about magic.
“…Come to think of it, using too much magic can lead to mana depletion, causing dizziness. I think I also read somewhere that pushing past that point can result in losing consciousness.”
Rindou wanted to believe that his extreme fatigue after casting just one spell was due to his already exhausted state.
In reality, more testing would be needed. But Rindou deliberately avoided the thought that he might have almost no mana to begin with.
If that were true, it would mean he had acquired yet another practically useless skill. Which would leave him not just physically drained but also mentally crushed.
He wasn’t sure he’d be able to recover from such a blow anytime soon.
“…Anyway, I won. I defeated the Queen Ant.”
Rindou decided to savor the undeniable fact of his victory over the Queen Ant. It allowed the thought to fill him with hope and excitement for the strength he could still achieve in the future.
