Episode 48: Eldias Kong ①

“BRuoooooOOOoooohhhHH!!”  

The purple and white fur stood on end—a clear sign of Eldias Kong’s heightened excitement. It growled menacingly, constantly issuing threats with its voice.  

Normally known for its calm demeanor, why had Eldias Kong become this agitated? Rindou couldn’t understand. Yet, his thoughts weren’t just about survival; he was also thinking about other things. If he defeated this monster, he might get a bonus gacha pull.  

“Rindou! Leave us and run!”  

Contrary to Rindou’s resolve, Kyousuke shouted. He was ready to act as a decoy.  

“I know you’re strong, but Eldias Kong is out of our league! At least you should escape and report this to—”  

“You’re the Association staff, Kyousuke. Reporting is your job. I’ll take this thing down!”  

Planting his foot firmly, Rindou accelerated with full force. Gripping his Gale Blade tightly, he unleashed a strike the moment they clashed.  

“This thing’s… tough!”  

“Rrragh!”  

“Whoa!?”  

The full-force strike was deflected by Eldias Kong’s raised arm. The counter sent Rindou flying. Although he managed to stabilize himself mid-air and land, his arm was left tingling from the monster’s sheer strength. Cold sweat trickled down his face.  

“…This one’s the strongest opponent I’ve ever faced.”  

The Queen Ant had been formidable. But its strength lay in its swarm of Soldier Ants. On its own, it wasn’t as much of a threat. Eldias Kong, however, was different. Its overwhelming presence was enough to make one falter.  

“Uhoooooh…”  

Even Eldias Kong seemed to recognize the gravity of the fight. Though its fur remained bristled, it stopped mindlessly attacking. Instead, it locked its gaze on Rindou. It was observing his movements.  

(This thing’s stronger than Gakuto. But if I don’t beat it, there’s no way we’re making it out alive—or that I’ll get stronger. I need to find a way to break through.)  

Seeing that Eldias Kong wasn’t rushing in, Rindou took the opportunity to analyze it calmly.  

(No visible injuries. That means nothing has been a big enough threat to it yet. If I can figure out what pushed it into this frenzy, maybe we can either defeat it or drive it away.)  

The ideal outcome was to defeat it. If that wasn’t possible, surviving and escaping with everyone would have to do. Yet, deep down, Rindou couldn’t abandon his ambition for victory.  

He had finally become the player he had always aspired to be. Giving up easily wasn’t an option.  

(Think! Don’t stop thinking. There has to be a way to take Eldias Kong down!)  

“UHOOOO… GURAAAAAHHHH!!”  

Even with some semblance of reason, a monster was still a monster. Perhaps growing impatient with Rindou’s lack of action, Eldias Kong roared and charged.  

“Tch! Couldn’t you give me a little more time to think?!”  

Clicking his tongue, Rindou dodged the beast’s massive arms and began targeting its vulnerabilities. The chest, neck, head, and softer areas like the eyes and mouth—he tried them all. But its thick fur and dense muscles blocked most of his strikes. While Eldias Kong actively defended its most sensitive spots.  

(Its fur and muscles are a given. But even attacks on its eyes and mouth are anticipated. It’s clearly aware of those weak points.)  

Despite incorporating feints, Rindou couldn’t land a single hit on the critical areas.  

Using [Basic Earth Magic] could be a surprise tactic. But he had already exhausted his mana against Gakuto. Running out of magic here would mean instant death.  

(No way I can take that gamble now!)  

Abandoning the idea, Rindou accelerated his thoughts again.  

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Kyousuke. He had laid Ishida on the ground. He was now holding not only his sword but also a rare item. It was something they had obtained from defeating the Poison Snake.  

“…That’s it!”  

“BRruoooooOOOooOOooHHhh!!”

The twin fists slammed downward toward Rindou. But he leapt back nimbly and dodged the attack. He retreated all the way to where Kyousuke was standing.  

The impact of Eldias Kong’s fists striking the ground not only created a massive crater but also pulverized the earth beneath its feet.  

“Kyousuke! Help me take down Eldias Kong!”  

“That was my plan. My old injuries are mostly healed—I can fight now!”  

Hearing Kyousuke’s reply, Rindou nodded and spoke again.  

“First, take more of those out of the Magic Bag.”  

“This? But I don’t think it can pierce through Eldias Kong’s fur to deal any damage.”  

“It’ll be fine—I have an idea.”  

“…Alright. I think we have three of these, if I remember correctly.”  

Kyousuke retrieved two more of the same items from the Magic Bag, in addition to the one he was already holding.  

“Here’s the plan—”  

After Rindou explained the strategy, Kyousuke’s expression hardened with determination. He nodded resolutely.  

“Got it. Let’s do this!”  

“I’m counting on you, Kyousuke!”  

“BRUOOooooOOOoooHHhhh!!”  

Eldias Kong had regained its stance and roared. It signaled the start of another fierce battle.
