“Why is Ayane here? And why at the beginner’s gate?” 

Rindou asked, his confusion clear. Ayane herself answered the question. 

“There was a little issue at the Player Association. While investigating, I ended up at the beginner’s gate.” 

“An issue? Could it be related to Gakuto and the others?” 

“Hmm, you’re half-right.” 

Rindou had initially thought the Player Association was concerned about Gakuto and his group’s actions. But Ayane’s reply left him puzzled. 

“Half-right? What do you mean?” 

“The Player Association was actually focused on a temporary staff member who was with Oze— a player named Ishida.” 

“Ishida? The guy Kyousuke tried to help?” 

Rindou turned to Kyousuke at the mention of Ishida’s name. 

“That’s right. But unfortunately, I couldn’t save him.” 

“Ah… was it because I lost consciousness?” 

“Well, I wanted to help if I could. But I couldn’t weigh your life against his. Your life came first.” 

Kyousuke gave a wry smile as he spoke. And despite Rindou’s feelings of guilt, he was touched by the decision Kyousuke had made. 

“Thank you, Kyousuke.” 

“I was just making the right choice.” 

After a brief exchange with Kyousuke, Rindou turned his attention back to Ayane. 

“So, what exactly did Ishida do?” 

Rindou had begun to wonder if Ishida was the one responsible for the rampaging the Eldias Kong and other monsters. Was Ishida the one behind it all? 

“Ishida took a monster that the Association was studying and brought it outside without permission. Then he met up with Oze and went through the beginner’s gate.” 

“Wait, you mean the monsters in the beginner’s gate went berserk because of that one monster?” 

“That’s right. Because of that, the boss monster Eldias Kong left its territory and attacked us.” 

Rindou’s face twisted in disbelief as he absorbed the ridiculousness of the situation. But then a thought crossed his mind. 

“…But Kyousuke, did Ishida really have a monster with him?” 

Rindou had encountered Ishida before, even battling a Wood Golem he created. 

If a monster strong enough to make the Eldias Kong flee was nearby, he would have noticed. The Eldias Kong would have never come after them if such a monster was around. 

“……………Could there have been more of his comrades hiding?” 

“Correct.” 

Ayane confirmed Rindou’s suspicion. 

“We found four bodies in total. There’s also another player who likely went deeper into the swamp.” 

“It’s assumed that player took the research monster with them.” 

“By the way, the monster was supposed to be kept in a cage, but the cage was completely destroyed. We don’t know if it was a player or the monster who broke it, though.” 

If a player destroyed the cage, it would be their own fault. But if a monster did, the implications were chilling. 

After all, the monster was originally under the Association’s control. And it was possible that it broke out and wreaked havoc on its own. 

“……..That’s a terrifying thought.” 

“Either way, what our investigation has revealed so far is that the beginner’s gate has now turned into an extremely dangerous area.” 

“…Huh? ‘What the investigation has revealed so far’?” 

Rindou caught Ayane’s phrasing and turned to Kyouka. She had been holding his hand. 

“Hey, Kyouka. How long have I been out?” 

“Today marks a week, I think?” 

“…A week!?” 

Rindou couldn’t believe it. He had no idea he had been unconscious for an entire week. 

“Yep! I was really worried about you!” 

“I felt the same, Rindou-kun. You didn’t have any major injuries, but you were out cold for so long.”

“No, I… I’m sorry.” 

Kyouka and Kyousuke had been worried about him. Having heard that, Rindou apologized out of guilt. 

“Still, a week of investigation…….. It seems like the beginner’s gate is no longer accessible.” 

“That’s right. Because the monster was released inside the gate, the boss monster changed. And there were even changes to the ecosystem.” 

“As I mentioned earlier, the current beginner’s gate is extremely dangerous. Although it’s still unofficial, the Association has classified the danger level as S-rank.” 

“S-rank!?” 

It was unheard of for a gate that was previously E-rank, the lowest rank, to be upgraded to S-rank in just a week. 

“There should be an official announcement soon, so please don’t talk about it until then.” 

“…Got it.” 

With so many unexpected developments happening, Rindou felt completely exhausted as soon as he woke up. 

“Are you okay, Onii-chan?” 

“Ah……. I’m just a little tired.” 

“Is it alright if I let you rest now? This is just a medical check-up.” 

When Kanna said this, both Kyousuke and Ayane stood up immediately. 

“Well then, I’ll be leaving now.” 

“I’ll excuse myself as well.” 

“Thanks for explaining everything, and for helping me.” 

Rindou said his thanks, and the two of them smiled before leaving the room. 

“Even though your consciousness has returned, you still need to rest, okay?” 

“Understood, Doctor.” 

“I’ll be with you, Onii-chan!” 

“Heh, yeah.” 

With Kyouka keeping watch, Rindou could no longer fight off sleep. He soon drifted off to rest.
