Episode 57: Discharge

After that, Rindou spent three days in the hospital. As Kanna had told him that monitoring his progress was necessary.

During this time, he was assigned a room next to Kyouka’s. And Kyouka frequently came to visit. However, Rindou decided to make the most of it as a rare opportunity to relax.

“Seriously, the doctor should’ve put me in the same room as big brother.”

“No, I think the doctor was being considerate by placing us in separate rooms.”

Even though they were siblings, there were still differences between a man and a woman. There might be times when they needed to remove their clothes for exams. Rindou had even been examined topless before. Kyouka, being a girl and likely in her adolescence, would probably feel embarrassed. If Rindou were to see her in such a situation, he would probably be too embarrassed to stay in the room.

To avoid such awkwardness, the doctor had likely assigned them separate rooms. But for some reason, Kyouka hadn’t noticed that.

(She’s a girl, so I wish Kyouka would have noticed that……)

Rindou couldn’t help but feel a little concerned about Kyouka’s future.

Rindou’s hospital stay came to an end.

“Well, it looks like there are no issues,” 

Kanna said, giving her approval.

Rindou clenched and opened his fists several times to check his sensations.

“…Thank you so much, Dr. Ayase.”

“You’re welcome… though, to be honest, there were no external injuries. And I couldn’t find any internal ones either, so all I could do was keep an eye on you.” 

Rindou shook his head and expressed his gratitude.  

“That’s not true. If you hadn’t been here, “this one” would’ve been full of anxiety by now.”

The “this one” Rindou was referring to was Kyouka. She had been clinging to his arm. She was missing him now that he was about to be discharged.

“Pfft, you could’ve stayed in the hospital a little longer.”

“I can’t just waste hospital space like that.”

“But—!”

“Alright, alright, I’ll visit you properly. So please be patient with me, okay?”

Rindou patted Kyouka’s head with the hand that wasn’t being held by her. After a moment, Kyouka reluctantly released her grip.

“…Promise me you’ll come to visit without fail, okay?”

The word “without fail” struck Rindou strangely, and he suddenly realized it. He nodded firmly at Kyouka.

“…Of course. I won’t make you worry about me anymore.”

“It’s a promise! You *have* to do it!”

“Ah! …Well, I guess saying *absolutely* is a bit much?”

“Ehh—! Onii-channnn!”

Since Rindou was a player, he knew that it was impossible to live a life completely free from injuries. He could’ve played tough for Kyouka’s sake, but he couldn’t promise something he couldn’t guarantee. So he let his words trail off.

“Hehe, Rindou-kun. You’re so sincere.”

“Well, I’m just being honest. But if I do get injured, I’ll be in your care, Doctor.”

“I’d prefer if you didn’t need my help. For Kyouka’s sake, make sure you stay safe and come to visit us, okay?”

“Got it.”

After saying goodbye to Kanna in the hospital room, Rindou and Kyouka made their way to the hospital entrance.

“By the way, did you leave my sword with the guards?”

“Oh! I think Yada-san has it.”

“Kyousuke?”

When Rindou asked his question, Kyouka answered. And as they passed through the entrance, they saw two familiar figures waiting outside the gate.

“Kyousuke! And… why is Ayane here too?”

Rindou recognized Kyousuke from their previous phone conversations. But he was surprised to see Ayane there too.

“Hey! That’s rude, Rindou-san!”

“Well, I mean…”  

“Ayane-san was asked by the Association to bring us to the headquarters.”

Through his exchange with Kyousuke, Rindou had learned that he had been called by the Player Association. Of course, he knew it wasn’t a problem to go after being discharged. But he hadn’t expected an A-rank player like Ayane to be sent as an errand runner.

“Sorry for asking you to go so soon after being discharged. But could I ask for your help?”

“Of course. Is Kyousuke coming with us too?”

“Rindou-kun lost consciousness for a while, so I think I can fill in the gaps and assist.”

“Thanks, that helps a lot.”

After that exchange, Rindou stepped out of the hospital gates.

“Take care, Onii-chan!”

Kyouka called out to his back, and Rindou smiled as he turned around.

“I’m off, Kyouka.”

With that, Rindou headed to the Player Association building with Kyousuke and Ayane.
