My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 8: Rindou and Kyouka
Episode 8: Rindou and Kyouka
“…Are you really okay, Onii-chan?”
Kyouka asked with a trembling, worried voice. Seeing her like that, Rindou replied with a gentle smile.
“Of course. It was all so sudden, and I was surprised at first. But I’ve already fought monsters on my way here.”
“What?! Were you hurt? Are you really okay?“
“I’m fine, don’t worry about it.”
As he reassured her with a smile, Rindou gently patted Kyouka’s head before turning his gaze to Kanna.
“Oh, right, Doctor. I got my hands on an Advanced Potion on the way here. Would it be okay to donate it to the hospital?”
“What?! Rindou-kun, no! You can’t just offer something that valuable so casually!”
Advanced Potions weren’t enough to heal Kyouka’s severe injuries. Rindou had already tried one at great expense. He had learned it wasn’t effective. As a result, he saw no difference between Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Potions. But to Kanna, a physician, such items were invaluable.
“But… this won’t help heal Kyouka’s injuries…”
“Goodness, your mind is completely fixated on curing Kyouka, isn’t it?”
“Of course it is. That’s why I work so hard.”
“If that’s the case, you should sell this Advanced Potion properly and turn it into money.”
“Oh, I guess that’s something I can do now, isn’t it?”
Only players could trade in items obtained by defeating monsters or brought back from inside the doors. This rule was put in place to prevent ordinary people from recklessly challenging monsters.
Rindou’s situation was an exception caused by the irregularity of the stampede. Under normal circumstances, he would have fled the scene immediately.
“If you’ve truly awakened as a player, you need to start planning your future carefully.”
“You’re right. I’ll be more mindful.”
Rindou gave a sheepish smile as he spoke. It prompted Kanna to sigh with a slightly exasperated look.
“…I’m worried about you, Onii-chan,”
Kyouka said softly, her concern resurfacing.
“I told you, don’t worry. I’ll visit the Player Association tomorrow, register properly, and start handling things the right way.”
“Promise me you won’t do anything reckless, okay?”
“Of course. I’d never leave you alone.”
Their parents had died long ago—not from illness or accidents but at the hands of monsters. During that attack, Kyouka sustained severe injuries that required prolonged hospitalization. Although she could now talk and smile, her body was still badly damaged internally.
One of Rindou’s reasons for becoming a player was to obtain the elusive Elixir. It was rumored to be available only within the gates. It was all in hopes of fully healing Kyouka.
“That’s why, Kyouka, you need to listen to the doctor and take good care of yourself too.”
“I know. And I’ll make sure I don’t leave you alone either, Onii-chan.”
Seeing Kyouka’s face had a calming effect on Rindou. And the same could be said for her. Kanna was observing from the sidelines. She noticed that Kyouka’s complexion had significantly improved compared to before she saw Rindou. Relieved, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“They haven’t officially declared the end of the stampede yet. Are you staying here tonight, Rindou?”
“I’d love to, but my clothes are in tatters. So I should probably head home—”
“No! Onii-chan, stay here tonight!”
Although Rindou initially thought of leaving to change clothes, Kyouka was worried about the possibility of monsters still lurking outside. She grabbed his hand and begged him to stay.
“Could I add my request to hers, Rindou-kun?”
“Well… you’re right. It’s probably best to stay here tonight.”
Not wanting to upset Kyouka or risk her condition worsening, Rindou decided to spend the night in her hospital room.
(I can visit the Player Association tomorrow morning after going home to change. It won’t be too late.)
Thus, Rindou’s first day as a player came to an end. A few hours later, the Player Association announced the resolution of the stampede. However, by then, both Rindou and Kyouka were fast asleep. They were deeply at peace.
