My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 104: Kageboshi's Skill
Episode 104: Kageboshi’s Skill
If Rindou’s method of fighting monsters was a straightforward frontal assault, then Kageboshi’s approach—attacking from outside the enemy’s field of vision while blending into the shadows—could be called a tactical strategy.
Whether Kageboshi employed this style deliberately or simply matched her fighting style by coincidence, only she knew. However, the two’s methods complemented each other flawlessly. It enabled them to dominate the battle.
“Damn it! How many more of these things are there?!”
“Just a little more! Let’s keep going!”
“Got it!”
Before he realized it, Rindou had begun trusting Kageboshi’s words. Perhaps it was the heat of battle, but he didn’t notice this shift in himself. Likewise, Kageboshi was unaware that she had earned his trust. She was focused solely on the task at hand.
This mutual focus allowed them to weather the grueling fight in the dark.
“Hah… hah… hah... is it over?”
“It seems so.”
Kageboshi instinctively responded to Rindou’s muttered comment. Even though it wasn’t meant as a question.
[From the 15 gacha pulls, you have received: [Intermediate Potions] x 3 and [Basic Potions] x 5.]
Suddenly, Rindou’s [Gacha] skill activated, and a magical circle appeared in front of them.
(Crap!)
Panic struck Rindou. He hadn’t told Kageboshi about his [Gacha] skill. And now there was no way to hide it.
However, instead of reacting with alarm, Kageboshi merely gazed at the magical circle as the items materialized and rolled to the ground. She exhaled softly.
“…How surprising.”
The moment Kageboshi spoke, Rindou narrowed his eyes and pointed his Gale Sword at her. She, in turn, sheathed her dagger and stood directly in front of him.
“What are you trying to do?”
“I thought this would be the best way to earn your trust.”
Unable to understand why Kageboshi had disarmed herself, Rindou’s wariness grew.
“Even if you’re not hostile now, there’s no guarantee about later.”
“Then you’ll have to trust me based on my actions so far.”
In truth, Rindou was starting to believe Kageboshi wasn’t an enemy. Although she was sent by Kenji, a fact that raised suspicion, she had risked herself to save Rindou when he fell through the collapsing floor.
Not to mention, she had fought alongside him against the Kobold horde.
(With her skill, she could’ve attacked me during the battle… but she didn’t. That means… she’s probably an ally.)
Though Rindou wanted to investigate more deeply, this wasn’t the place. The double-gate dungeon was a perilous environment. And if he had been attacked, it was likely Kyousuke and Ayane were in danger as well.
“…Fine. I’ll trust you.”
“Thank you.”
“But! Once we clear this place, you and the Branch Manager will have to explain everything to me.”
“Of course. I’ll personally ensure he knows.”
Kageboshi’s firm tone made Rindou tilt his head slightly in curiosity.
“…Are you having a hard time too?”
“The Branch Manager’s orders are always absurdly demanding. If he considered our situation before issuing commands, it’d be better. But it’s always ‘Do this!’ or ‘Do that!’ And—ugh!”
Kageboshi realized she had let her complaints slip. She looked flustered. Rindou was stunned by the sudden shift from her usual composed demeanor. He was left momentarily confused by the unexpectedly human reaction.
“…Anyway! The Branch Manager’s orders are troublesome, but the rewards are good. So I go along with them.”
“So you’re both benefiting from the arrangement, huh?”
Seeing Kageboshi flustered, Rindou couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. He sensed a human side to her for the first time.
“That said, when the magical circle appeared earlier, you didn’t seem surprised.”
“Well… I’ve been watching you ever since we entered the dungeon.”
“Ah, I see. Makes sense.”
Rindou shrugged at her explanation and began thinking ahead.
“Alright, let’s decide our next steps.”
As he spoke, his expression turned serious. Kageboshi nodded with equal determination.
“I’ll follow your decision.”
“Then let’s prioritize regrouping with Kyousuke and Ayane. I’m worried about them. And also, my skill…”
Rindou trailed off mid-sentence.
He hesitated because he had told Kenji that his skill was [Intermediate Swordsmanship], without mentioning [Gacha]. Although Kageboshi had witnessed the item drops from the magic circle, Rindou had kept other skills, such as [Death Resonance], completely secret. Explaining it now felt impossible.
“…I understand there are things you wish to keep secret. It’s not plausible that mere [Intermediate Swordsmanship] could injure the Branch Manager.”
Judging that Rindou was hiding something, Kageboshi subtly conveyed that he didn’t need to explain further.
“…Well, if the Branch Manager’s explanation satisfies me, I’ll tell you everything then,”
Rindou replied, recognizing her gesture. He agreed on the condition of a future explanation.
“When that time comes, direct your questions to the Branch Manager. I’ll excuse myself from that discussion.”
“Really?”
“…I’d rather not get involved in any more strange complications,”
Kageboshi replied with a wry expression.
Seeing her response, Rindou couldn’t help but chuckle again.
