Episode 105: One Trial Ends 

Since falling to the lower floors, encounters with monsters had become far more frequent compared to the upper levels. 

Apparently, the monsters that had roamed the upper floors were stragglers driven out of the lower levels. This meant one thing—the monsters on the lower floors were overwhelmingly stronger than those above. 

“You’re pushing too far forward, Rindou!” 

“No, this is exactly how it should be!” 

Rindou kept charging ahead. Kageboshi shouted at him, but he refused to stop. His approach was strategic—his [Death Resonance] skill grew stronger the more enemies surrounded him. It made it efficient to stay on the frontlines. 

(If my skill mastery progresses and evolves, it might increase the chances of saving Kyousuke and Ayane!) 

Rindou wasn’t recklessly fighting. However, Kageboshi was unaware of this fact. From her perspective, his actions seemed nothing short of reckless. 

“Honestly, you’re impossible! [Shadow Binding]!” 

“Garuagh!?” 

With most of the monsters targeting Rindou, Kageboshi was free to move around. She focused on support, activating her [Shadow Binding] to hinder the enemies’ movements. 

“Nice one, Kageboshi!” 

Unaware of her concerns, Rindou thanked her for the support and dove further into the fray. 

“Ugh! You’re just like the Branch Manager—both of you are total muscleheads!” 

Despite her exasperation at Rindou’s aggressive fighting style, Kageboshi followed him. Part of her wondered if there was a more efficient way to fight. But seeing the monster numbers dwindle so quickly made her realize this method, despite its flaws, was effective. 

“Fine! If that’s how you want to play, I’ll stick with you to the end!” 

“Oh? Is that the real you coming out?” 

“Shut up! Just finish this, Rindou Amachi!” 

“Got it!” 

The [Death Resonance] skill thrived when surrounded by enemies. While the decrease in enemy numbers weakened its effects, it also made it easier for Rindou to move. It eliminated any drawbacks from his perspective. 

“Haaaahhh!” 

One monster after another fell. Eventually, the numbers dwindled enough that even Kageboshi could move to the frontlines. It was accelerating their efforts to wipe out the horde completely. 

It seemed they would soon eradicate the threat—until it happened.

A menacing aura emanated from ahead, stopping Rindou and Kageboshi in their tracks. 

It was far beyond any hostility they had felt before—thick, savage, and chilling to the bone. 

“…Could this be?” 

“…The boss monster of the double gate, no doubt.” 

The strongest monster Rindou had faced before was Ignacio from the six-star gate. However, the oppressive aura they felt now far surpassed that. It left no doubt this was their strongest adversary yet. 

(Damn it! I wanted to regroup with Kyousuke and Ayane first. But to think we’d run into the boss monster now!) 

Choosing to retreat and search for Kyousuke and Ayane was an option—one that would likely give them a much better chance of survival. Normally, boss monsters didn’t leave their territory. 

The incident with the boss breaking its bounds in the novice players’ gate had been a rare exception. 

“…Rindou Amachi. We should fall back and find another route――!?” 

“Prey… won’t escape!” 

But this was a double-gate area. It was a place where conventional rules didn’t apply. The oppressive aura focused intently on Rindou and Kageboshi. 

“…A Kobold Lord!” 

“I am the lord. I am Gergale!” 

“It even has a name!?” 

A Kobold Lord had only ever been encountered as a boss in six-star gates. But a named variant? That was an entirely different story. 

(A named monster’s abilities far exceed the norm! If it’s a named Kobold Lord, then its strength must surpass even seven stars!) 

Standing before Gergale, Rindou and Kageboshi instinctively understood one thing—turning their backs to flee would mean instant death. 

“…We have no choice, Kageboshi! We’re fighting this!” 

“…So it seems.” 

“Prey… delicious! Earthlings… delicious!” 

Gergale grinned and unleashed a triumphant roar of joy. 

“GARRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!” 

The roar shook the walls and ceiling, sending dust and debris falling. But it wasn’t just a physical tremor. 

“Ugh!” 

“…Debilitation right off the bat!?” 

The roar carved fear into their very souls. It momentarily froze Rindou and Kageboshi in place. 

“Dieeee!!” 

Drooling with excitement, Gergale charged straight at them.
