Episode 108: Gergale ③  

“Take this!!”  

Kageboshi spun through the air in a graceful arc before plummeting downward. Rindou kicked off the ground. He dashed to her landing point and caught her.  

“Kageboshi! Hey, are you okay?”  

“…Run… Rindou…”  

Bl00d streamed endlessly from her left arm, which hung limply at her side. Despite her injuries, she forced herself to speak. She was urging Rindou to escape and save himself.  

“Grahahaha! Earthling, weak! Prey, prey!”  

Gergale was laughing maniacally. He commanded the Kobolds to surround them, forming an inescapable wall.  

“More fear! Give it! Don’t kill the woman! Kill the man!”  

“”””Garuaaahhh!””””  

At its command, the Kobolds charged at Rindou all at once.  

“I won’t abandon anyone,” 

Rindou muttered as he gently laid Kageboshi down on the ground.  

“…No… you… must run… Rindou!”  

“If I abandoned a comrade here, how could I face Kyosuke, Ayane, or even my little sister!?”  

To Rindou, Kageboshi had already become one of his comrades. Leaving her behind wasn’t an option. Would abandoning an ally allow him to be accepted by his other companions? Could he still claim to be the proud older brother he wanted to be? Such thoughts fueled his resolve.  

Though Kageboshi had initially been a person he doubted, they had fought side by side. They trusted each other in the face of danger. To Rindou, that made her a comrade.  

(Besides, this situation still holds a chance for a comeback! It’s too soon to give up!)  

As he cut down an approaching Kobold, determination burned brightly in Rindou’s eyes.  

The surrounding swarm activated the effects of his skill [Death Resonance] to its fullest. Furthermore, Gergale continued to observe from a distance. It gave Rindou a chance to exploit this opportunity and draw as many outcomes as possible from his [Gacha] skill.  

“Come on, you trash! I’ll take you all down!”  

“Grahahaha! Earthling, amusing! Kill him! Kill the man!”  

To Gergale, Rindou’s defiance looked like nothing more than futile resistance. Confident in its victory, Gergale’s arrogance was evident.  

“Uooooooohhhh!!”  

Rindou’s figure was drenched in bl00d as he swung his blade. It seemed to reinforce Gergale’s perception of inevitable victory.  

“…[Sh-Shadow… Binding]…”  

“Garuagh!?”  

Even Kageboshi, who had resigned herself to death, found her resolve renewed as she watched Rindou’s back—a back that refused to give up.  

She decided to struggle to survive, using her [Shadow Magic] to aid Rindou in subtle ways. She was ensuring Gergale didn’t notice.  

(Kageboshi!)  

Catching her actions out of the corner of his eye, Rindou met her gaze. She gave him a silent, small nod.  

(Even though it’s a strain, she’s still fighting with [Shadow Magic]… Kageboshi hasn’t given up. If that’s the case, then I’ll fight to the bitter end too!)  

Unaware that his determination had reignited Kageboshi’s, Rindou only knew that her resolve strengthened his own.  

The two inspired each other, taking steps to seize every possible chance for survival.  

(I’ll reduce their numbers as much as I can! Activating [Gacha] will work better the more I take down!)  

The [Gacha] skill had never activated mid-battle before. But Rindou believed this was a safety measure.  

(If it’s for safety, then I should be able to activate it even during combat through sheer willpower!)  

If his assumption was wrong, he’d have to fight Gergale in his current condition—or worse, after losing even more stamina. Time wasn’t on his side, and triggering [Gacha] was crucial for victory.  

“Grrrr! Kill him! Kill him now! Quickly, kill him!!”  

Perhaps frustrated by Rindou’s defiance, Gergale roared angrily.  

“Garuaah!?”  

The Kobolds flinched at Gergale’s command. They were hesitating for a moment before charging en masse toward Rindou.  

“Damn! I can’t hold them off any longer!”  

Clenching Gale Sword tightly, Rindou glanced briefly at Kageboshi. She was visibly struggling.  

(There’s no time to hesitate. Kageboshi is my comrade now!)  

Turning his gaze forward, Rindou shouted. He was activating his skill through sheer determination.  

“I demand its use now! Activate! My unique skill, [Gacha]!”  

The moment he yelled, a massive magic circle materialized before him. And a powerful gust of wind swept through the area.  

“Garua? …What is that?”  

The gust blew away the Kobolds that had been about to pounce. It forced the rest to hesitate.  

“…What is this?”  

Kageboshi, too, was bewildered by the sudden appearance of the magic circle.  

“This is my true skill—[Gacha].”

“…[Gacha]?” 

“I’m betting everything on this for a complete turnaround!” 

Then, a window appeared in front of Rindou.
