“Whhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaat!?!” 

Rindou, Kyousuke, and Ayane all shouted in surprise at the unexpected action.

“…Eh, Kageboshi?”

Kenji was just as shocked. He had been in the middle of lunch. And his chopsticks were holding some food. They stopped just before reaching his mouth and fell onto the table.

“That amount of money isn’t enough! I won’t move according to your orders anymore, not ever again!” 

Kageboshi, with an expression of fury, pointed at Kenji and shouted angrily.

“Hmm… Then, how about I double the payment this time? How about it? Will you work under me for just a bit longer—”

“If you double it, I’ll consider it! Yeah, if it’s doubled, I guess I’ll have to accept it!” 

Kenji was perhaps used to handling Kageboshi. He didn’t panic. Instead, he appeased her anger by offering an increased reward.

Rindou, Kyousuke, and Ayane all thought the same thing. But none of them spoke up.

Hearing Kenji’s words, Rindou nodded deeply.

“Really, I hoped this prediction would be wrong…” 

“Did you think from the start that the star-5 gate would be a double gate?”

Rindou glared at Kenji, who was holding his head. He asked sharply.

As Rindou mentioned Kageboshi’s name, he went on with his next question.

“Also, why did you assign Kageboshi to watch over us? You could’ve just explained it properly instead of secretly keeping an eye on us.” 

“That’s right, Branch Manager!” 

“It’s not just Rindou-kun. There are things even I and Ayane-san don’t want to be found out about, you know?”

Now that the three were glaring at him, Kenji had to respond somehow.

“…I see. Before explaining, I should first apologize. I’m sorry for acting like I was spying on you.” 

Kenji stood up from his chair, bent his body to a 90-degree angle, and bowed his head.

“…Is the Branch Manager’s head so light that it can bow so many times?” 

Rindou thought that, as the head of the organization, Kenji shouldn’t be bowing that easily.

However, Kenji had already bowed twice—once when Rindou was in danger during the newbie player gate situation, and now this time as well.

While Rindou felt some sincerity, he didn’t want it to be assumed that apologizing would solve everything. So he pressed him further.

“I don’t want the Branch Manager to bow his head so easily. If you give us a proper explanation and we’re satisfied, I think we can let this matter go.” 

When Kenji heard Rindou’s words, he raised his head and looked at Kyousuke and Ayane.

“Yes, if Rindou-san says so.”

After hearing the answers from Kyousuke and Ayane, Kenji smiled slightly. He began clearing the table. And after serving tea, all three of them sat down with Kenji.

Seeing Kageboshi standing by the wall, Rindou called out to her.

“I’m fine standing here.”

“Shut up, Rindou Amachi!” 

Seeing Kageboshi shouting angrily, Kenji was surprised inside.
