My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 115: Two Grim Tidings
Episode 115: Two Grim Tidings
“…Haha, you really are a genius at shocking people, Player Amachi.”
“Even I wasn’t expecting this outcome.”
Kageboshi admitted with a mix of amazement and resignation on her face as she and Kenji finally regained their composure.
“So that strike during the re-evaluation was thanks to the skill [Iron Wall Reflection], huh?”
“And now your [Intermediate Swordsmanship] has evolved into [Advanced Swordsmanship]… Not just potential, but your current abilities might already rival S-rank.”
Kenji muttered in understanding, while Kageboshi analyzed Rindou’s abilities with a calm, precise tone.
“S-Rank? No way.”
Rindou was shaking his head in denial.
“Having many skills is advantageous, but I lack the experience. Even Kyousuke, a C-rank, could beat me, let alone Ayane.”
“Eh? You’re joking, right, Rindou-san?”
“If I had to fight the current Rindou-kun, I’d probably lose in one hit!”
“…Huh?”
Rindou was entirely sincere in his self-assessment.
He believed that Kyousuke and Ayane’s experience gave them a decisive edge in combat tactics. However, both Kyousuke and Ayane felt that Rindou’s sheer skill far surpassed their own. It was to the point where even their accumulated experience couldn’t close the gap.
“Just [Advanced Swordsmanship] alone is enough to overwhelm me.”
“Without even activating [Death Resonance], you also have [Iron Wall Reflection] and [Magic Sword]. There’s no way I can win!”
“Honestly, I wouldn’t want to face Rindou Amachi head-on either.”
With Kyousuke, Ayane, and now even Kageboshi affirming his strength, Rindou couldn’t bring himself to argue further.
“………Am I really that strong now?”
Still, Rindou struggled to believe in his abilities.
His doubts stemmed from how precarious the battle with Gergale had been, the short time since his awakening as a player, and how much he relied on Kyousuke and Ayane in their party.
“From my perspective, Player Amachi’s strength is among the best in Japan. During the re-evaluation, I thought your potential alone could reach S-rank. But for you to approach that level so quickly…….. Incredible! Hahaha!”
“That’s not funny, Branch Manager.”
Rindou’s expression was sour as Kenji laughed heartily.
“Still, it’s not uncommon for strength and confidence to grow at different rates. It was especially when you’ve gained so much power in such a short time.”
Kenji understood why Rindou lacked self-assurance. He himself had rapidly become an S-rank player in his youth. So he was familiar with the challenges that came with sudden growth.
“Right now, few people recognize Player Amachi’s name. But that will change soon.”
Kenji’s expression grew serious as he continued.
“The media will inevitably try to drag you into the spotlight. Until then, I’ll protect you. But you need to build your confidence by then, understand?”
Kenji had seen many young players with exceptional talent. Some rose to fame quickly, while others faltered, their spirits broken by challenges they weren’t ready for. He didn’t want Rindou to meet a similar fate.
“…Understood.”
“Player Kazaki, Player Yada, please support and guide Player Amachi.”
“”Understood!””
Just as their discussion reached a resolution—
——Bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt.
Rindou’s phone vibrated.
“Excuse me, I need to step out for a moment.”
Rindou stood as he excused himself.
——Ring, ring.
At the same time, the intercom in the branch manager’s office rang.
“Oh, excuse me as well,”
Kenji said, heading for the intercom.
To avoid overhearing, Rindou moved to the far side of the room near the wall opposite the intercom.
“…Dr. Ayase?”
The call was from Kanna, Kyouka’s attending physician.
Rindou tapped the screen and raised the phone to his ear.
“Doctor, is something wrong—”
“—Hurry and come to the hospital! Kyouka’s condition has taken a sudden turn for the worse!”
Hearing this, Rindou’s face turned pale.
“W-What do you mean? Didn’t the Elixir cure Kyouka?”
“—We don’t understand the situation either! Please, Rindou-san!”
“I’m on my way right now!”
After ending the call, Rindou turned to find Kyousuke and Ayane already on their feet. They had overheard the conversation.
“What!? Is that true!?”
This time, Kenji’s voice thundered across the room. His tone was anxious and his expression was grave.
“I’ll devise a plan immediately. And just in case, summon all players ranked C and above.”
After issuing this order, Kenji slammed the intercom receiver down roughly.
“…Did something happen, Branch Manager?”
It was Kageboshi who asked.
“…The star-4 gate, previously thought to be a double gate, has failed to be cleared. And the party that failed………. was A-rank.”
The shocking revelation left Rindou and the others speechless.
