Episode 67: Explanation to Ayane

The place they moved to was a café that Kyousuke often visited. 

Rindou had wondered if it was an appropriate location for a secret conversation. But many of the newer shops had soundproofing facilities. And this café was one of them.

“It’s a café run by a former player acquaintance of mine. We used to have secret talks here often, so they’ve made sure to have proper soundproofing.”

With Kyousuke’s reassurance, Rindou decided to explain his skill to Ayane while having lunch.

“It looks delicious!” 

“Yeah, it does.”

“Let’s eat first, then.”

After being active for a while, they were hungrier than usual. With the food they ordered arriving, they decided to first fill their stomachs.

“It’s so delicious! I think I’ll make this my regular spot.”

“Well, it’s great that I could introduce you to it.”

As they enjoyed such casual conversation, they finished their meal and then decided to get to the main topic.

“Now then, Ayane, about my skill….. huh?”

Just as Rindou was about to start talking, Ayane suddenly held out her hand. She was signaling him to stop.

“…What’s wrong?”

“Is it okay, Rindou-san?”

“You mean about my skills?” 

Although it seemed natural since they had gathered together to talk about it, for some reason Ayane looked troubled. Which piqued Rindou’s curiosity. He briefly wondered if it was some interference from the Association. But he quickly thought that if it were the case, it would be better to just listen openly.

“Yes. It’s just… Rindou-san, you must have doubted me, right? You thought I might be an agent of the Association?”

“…You noticed?”

“Well, I kind of felt like you were avoiding me.”

Ayane said this with a wry smile.

“Just so you know, I’m not an agent of the Association. I was asked by the branch manager to accompany you. But that’s just because the branch manager personally wanted to protect and nurture promising players like you.”

Before Rindou could explain his skill, Ayane began to clarify her position.

“I’ve seen you since you just awakened. Even then, I thought you were a promising newcomer.”

“Why? I didn’t do anything special back then, did I?”

“True, but I could tell how you moved and what you were trying to accomplish. It felt like you were thinking about what a player should do and acting accordingly.”

Hearing Ayane’s words, Rindou remembered the stampede incident.

“I only saw you for a brief moment back then. But it felt like you were moving with a clear idea of what a player should be doing.”

Indeed, Rindou had been thinking that if he were a player, he had to help as many ordinary people as possible. He hadn’t realized it, but it was surprising that Ayane had observed him so closely.

“That’s why I offered to accompany you to the rank review. And during that, I saw that you made precise moves even when facing unfamiliar monsters.”

Rindou felt a sense of joy inwardly. He was thinking that the knowledge he had accumulated out of his strong desire to become a player had been useful.

“That’s why when I received the offer from the branch manager, I accepted right away.”

“I see.”

Rindou hadn’t expected this. And now, he was filled with a sense of guilt.

“I didn’t realize that. And yet, I kept doubting you…..…”

“Please don’t feel bad, Rindou-san! Anyone with that kind of power would want to hide it!”

“That kind of power? …Are you talking about the re-evaluation with the branch manager?”

“Yes! That’s definitely not the kind of power that should have kept you at a C-rank! It’s an amazing skill!”

Ayane must have misunderstood after seeing a glimpse of Rindou’s skill.

“…Ayane, that was indeed my skill.”

“Yes, I know!”

“But that’s not all.”

“You also have [Intermediate Swordsmanship], right? I didn’t expect a double skill!”

“That’s not it.”

“…Huh?”

Ayane had been thinking it might be a double skill. But at Rindou’s words, she was now confused.

“…Could it be, triple skills?”

Rindou shook his head at Ayane’s suggestion.

“………….N-No way!”

“My original skill is [Gacha]. And with that [Gacha], I can acquire up to three other skills.”

“…W-What!? Up to three!?“

At the shocking revelation, Ayane screamed and grabbed her head.

(Thank goodness we’re in a soundproof room…)

Meanwhile, Kyousuke was deep in thought. He was relieved about something entirely different.
