Rindou immediately contacted Kyousuke.
‘Hello? What’s up, Rindou-kun?’
“Kyousuke, I need you to arrange for me to enter a five-star or higher door right away.”
‘……..…Something’s happened with Kyouka-san, hasn’t it?’
Realizing the urgency, Kyousuke asked. And Rindou explained Kyouka’s deteriorating condition.
‘Understood. I’ll check with the staff here. In the meantime, you and Ayane-san should head to the Association.’
“Got it.”
Rindou hung up and, with Ayane, ran full speed toward the Association building.
—
Once there, they met up with Kyousuke and began assessing the situation.
“Did you find a gate?”
“We did, but…”
Hearing that a gate had been located, Rindou felt a wave of relief. But Kyousuke’s expression remained grim.
“…What’s wrong?”
“Well… it’s not a five-star door. It’s a six-star one.”
“What?! A s-six-star?!”
Ayane raised her voice in shock.
“I’m not doubting Rindou-san’s abilities, but tackling a six-star gate right after clearing a three-star is reckless!”
“I agree. But there’s more to it…”
After hesitating for a moment, Kyousuke continued.
“…This gate was specifically requested for you by Branch Manager Dōmura.”
“Branch Manager Dōmura?”
Hearing that it was a request from Kenji Dōmura, Rindou furrowed his brow in thought.
(So, it’s definitely a favor from the Branch Manager. He’s trying to put me in his debt, isn’t he?)
Obtaining the Elixir was uncertain—it depended on luck, not a guarantee. However, accessing five-star or higher doors required a lot of red tape.
(If I can bypass all of that and enter the gate, it’s worth considering.)
Rindou didn’t really have a choice. Without the Elixir, Kyouka’s life was in danger.
“…Let’s go.”
“Are you sure, Rindou-san?”
“I have no choice. For my goal, I have to do this.”
Hearing his resolve, Ayane nodded firmly.
“I knew you’d say that, Rindou.”
Kyousuke began sharing information about the six-star gate. As they did, a man with blond hair and sunglasses clicked his tongue loudly enough for them to hear.
“Tch, should’ve just given up already.”
“…Who’s that?”
“Kunichika Igari, a B-rank player. He was debating whether or not we should take this gate’s request.”
“Hey, Kyousuke! Sending rookies to a six-star gate? Are you trying to get them killed? Give it to us instead!”
Sliding his sunglasses down, Kunichika glared at Kyousuke and approached aggressively.
“No, we’ll be taking it.”
“Don’t screw with me! We had our eyes on that gate first!”
“Then you should’ve taken it without hesitating. Excuse us.”
“You bastard! Remember this! You’re just a pathetic C-rank loser!”
Ignoring the insult, Kyousuke patted Rindou and Ayane on their shoulders. He began walking away, with the two following him. Kunichika glared at their backs until they were out of sight.
—
“Was that really okay, Kyousuke?”
“Yeah, Yada-senpai. That guy seemed to know you pretty well.”
Rindou and Ayane voiced their concerns.
“He was a fellow rookie during my player registration. He’s had a rivalry with me since then. He’s still bitter because I made it to C-rank before him.”
“But now he’s B-rank, and he’s calling you a loser?”
“Well, his promotion to B-rank is undoubtedly due to his skill. I won’t deny that.”
Rather than being upset at the insult, Kyousuke even praised Kunichika’s abilities. It was leaving Rindou puzzled.
“Kyousuke, aren’t you too nice? Complimenting someone who insulted you isn’t normal.”
“Exactly! I could never do that!”
Kyousuke laughed softly.
“I get angry when it’s warranted, but this isn’t worth getting worked up over.”
With a gentle smile, Kyousuke steered the conversation back to the six-star gate.
“Anyway, let’s focus on clearing the six-star gate. Taking the request is one thing, but completing it is what matters.”
“Yeah, and there’s no guarantee we’ll get something as rare as an Elixir from the loot. We have to focus on the challenge ahead.”
“Even if it’s frustrating… I get it. Fine, I’ll let it go for now!”
Ayane huffed but ultimately prioritized the mission for Rindou and Kyouka’s sake.
“Basic supplies are ready in the Magic Bag. Can we head straight out?”
“Of course.”
“No problem!”
Having just cleared a three-star gate, they had initially planned to take a break. However, both Rindou and Ayane nodded with determination.
“You two sure are energetic.”
“It felt like we didn’t get enough action.”
“Same here!”
“I see. Alright then, let’s get going!”
And so, the group set off to tackle the sudden challenge of the six-star gate.
