My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 88: The Effect of the Elixir
Episode 88: The Effect of the Elixir
——Shuuuuuuun.
As Rindou and the others returned to the door, it began to crumble.
When they had encountered the star-3 gate, they had waited until it completely collapsed. But this time, there was a need to hurry.
“I’ll keep an eye on things here, so Rindou-kun and Ayane-san should go to the hospital.”
“Thanks, Kyousuke.”
“Let’s go, Rindou-san.”
Rindou expressed his gratitude. And with Ayane, he hurried to the hospital where Kyouka was hospitalized. Rindou ran the shortest route to the hospital that he had planned in his mind. They arrived in just under an hour.
“Oh! Isn’t that Rindou-kun?”
“Here, take this!”
“This too!”
“Whoa! Whoa! …What is it?”
When the hospital guard Ittetsu called out, Rindou and Ayane tossed him their weapons. Ittetsu hurriedly caught them. He was looking confused as he watched the two of them enter the hospital.
“Kyouka!”
“R-Rindou-kun!”
Rindou opened the door to the hospital room and called for Kyouka. She was lying on the bed, looking pained. Kanna was there as well.
“Cough! Cough!”
Bl00d dripped from Kyouka’s mouth as she coughed. And Kanna was desperately trying to ease her symptoms with [Light magic].
“Kyouka! Doctor! This is the Elixir!”
“The Elixir!?”
Kanna had been holding Kyouka on the verge of collapse. She gasped in surprise at the mention of the Elixir.
“Please, give this to Kyouka!”
“Please! Pour it on her right now!”
“Understood!”
Rindou removed the cap from the bottle and poured the Elixir over Kyouka, who was suffering. Immediately, a brilliant light appeared that was far stronger than when using potions. It bursted from Kyouka’s body.
“…Wow, it’s beautiful.”
“…I’ve never seen such a light before.”
Although it might have been inappropriate to say, the light was so beautiful that both Ayane and Kanna spoke out in awe.
As they spoke, Rindou’s gaze was fixed solely on Kyouka.
“Kyouka…”
The pained expression on her face gradually softened, and her breathing steadied. Rindou gently wiped the bl00d from the corner of her mouth with his finger. And slowly, Kyouka’s eyes opened.
“…Onii-chan.”
“Kyouka, are you alright?”
“…Yeah. I feel… so much better.”
Though she still looked tired, Kyouka smiled as she answered Rindou.
“You’re alright now. You’re fine. Rest for now, okay?”
“…Okay. Onii-chan, thank you.”
“Yeah.”
It was a brief exchange, but it reassured Kyouka. She slowly closed her eyes and let out a peaceful breath. The sound of her steady sleep filled the room. It was enough to show that her condition had improved. And Kanna, having used so much magic, suddenly collapsed.
“Doctor!”
Having exhausted her magic and her desperate attempts to protect Kyouka, Kanna finally let go of the tension and nearly fell. Rindou immediately supported her.
“Ah… sorry, Rindou-kun.”
“Why are you apologizing? If it weren’t for you, we might not have made it in time………. Really, thank you so much.”
Rindou sat Kanna down in a chair and bowed deeply. He was expressing his gratitude.
“No. I could only keep her alive, but I couldn’t save Kyouka’s life. I should be the one thanking you, Rindou-kun.”
Rindou knew that neither he nor Kanna alone could have saved Kyouka. It wasn’t just the two of them. He also realized that without Ayane and Kyousuke, they wouldn’t have been able to acquire the Elixir in the first place.
(I’m really glad I trusted Ayane.)
After conquering the star-3 gate, Rindou had been faced with a decision—whether or not to trust Ayane. He had chosen to trust her. If he had refused to form a party and not trusted her, he and Kyousuke would have been killed by Ignacio at the star-6 gate. And Kyouka would not have been saved.
(One choice can change the future so drastically.)
Rindou thought. Then he glanced at Ayane, who was watching Kyouka with a relieved expression.
“…Thank you, Ayane.”
“Huh? What’s this all of a sudden?”
“I just thought I should thank you.”
Ayane was surprised by the sudden words of gratitude. She looked puzzled. But Rindou answered as if it was only natural.
“Is that so? …Well, I do like being thanked. So I’ll accept it!”
“Glad to hear it.”
Seeing Ayane’s bright smile, Rindou chuckled and responded with a wry smile.
“Doctor, is it okay if I stay here tonight?”
Rindou asked Kanna, and she nodded with a smile.
“I turned you down yesterday, so I’ll allow it this time.”
“Thank you, Doctor.”
After confirming Kyouka’s condition, Kanna told Rindou to call her if anything happened. She then left the room.
“I’ll be heading home now.”
“Yeah. Really, thank you, Ayane.”
“No, thank you. See you tomorrow.”
Ayane also left the hospital room. Afterward, Rindou continued to watch Kyouka’s peaceful sleeping face for a while. Before he lay down on the sofa to sleep.
