Episode 90: Rindou’s Choice

The next morning. 

Rindou woke up earlier than usual. 

He stepped off the sofa. He slowly made his way to stand beside the bed where Kyouka lay sleeping. Gazing at her peaceful face, he let out a sigh of relief. 

“…Thank goodness, she’s alive.” 

Realizing that yesterday’s events weren’t just a dream, he felt a weight lift from his chest. 

He then became aware that he had achieved one of his greatest goals. He began to ponder what lay ahead. 

(Kyousuke mentioned it too—it’s about time I start thinking seriously about what to do next.) 

Thanks to the Elixir, Kyouka’s life had been saved. 

Although a proper medical examination was still necessary, it was likely that the wounds that had tormented her had also fully healed.

Clenching his fists tightly, Rindou tried to organize his scattered thoughts.

Having gained power, Rindou found himself grappling with new dilemmas. 

Before, all he had to focus on was protecting and helping Kyouka. But now, as a player and with the knowledge of his skill’s extraordinary nature, his concerns had multiplied.

Unable to resolve his thoughts alone, Rindou decided to seek advice from the two people he trusted most.

At that moment, Kyouka, who had been sleeping, stirred and made a soft sound. 

“…Huh? Onii-chan?” 

“Sorry, did I wake you?” 

“No, it’s fine. Good morning, Onii-chan.” 

“Good morning, Kyouka.” 

Rindou brought over a folding chair that had been leaning against the wall. And he sat beside her bed. 

Still lying down, Kyouka turned her head toward him. Her expression was slightly puzzled. 

“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” 

“…Onii-chan, are you worried about something?” 

Her question caught Rindou off guard. 

“…..…Why do you think that?” 

“Because you’re making the same face you did before you became a player.” 

Realizing that she had seen right through him, Rindou was taken aback. 

“…Kyouka, you really see right through me, don’t you?” 

“Of course, I do. I’m your little sister, after all.” 

“Ha, you’ve got me there.” 

Encouraged by Kyouka’s warm smile, Rindou resolved to share his thoughts with her. 

“You might have already guessed, but your condition is fine now.” 

“Really?” 

“Yeah. I got my hands on an Elixir and used it yesterday. You’re going to be okay, no doubt about it.” 

“That’s amazing… Thank you, Onii-chan.” 

Rindou smiled gently in response to her gratitude and continued speaking. 

“But my goal was to get the Elixir and save you. Now that I’ve achieved that, I’m wondering what I should do next.” 

“Isn’t just doing your best as a player enough?” 

“It’s not that simple. The skill I awakened is… special. To be honest, it’s on another level entirely. That’s why I’m not sure if just doing my best is enough. Or if I should aim to help as many people as possible.” 

Rindou confessed his feelings honestly. He was unsure if he wanted a solution or just to voice his inner turmoil. 

“…But if that’s the case, doesn’t it mean that if you just do your best, everything will work out?” 

Kyouka was thinking of her brother. She earnestly conveyed her perspective. 

“What do you mean?” 

“If your skill is that extraordinary, then just by doing your best, wouldn’t the number of people you can help naturally increase?” 

“…I guess that’s… possible?” 

“I’m sure it is. So, Onii-chan, you should just do your best within your limits.” 

“Do my best within my limits, huh…” 

Taking Kyouka’s words to heart, Rindou decided to reexamine his thoughts and figure out his path forward. 

(If it’s for Kyouka, I could justify pushing myself beyond my limits. But otherwise, there’s absolutely no reason to overdo it. If someone calls me cold for that, so be it. I can’t risk leaving Kyouka all alone.) 

With that thought, Rindou turned his gaze toward Kyouka. She was looking back at him with a smile. 

“…You’re right. Yeah, just like you said, Kyouka.” 

“Feeling better now?” 

“Yeah, it’s all thanks to you. Thank you.” 

“Hehe, I’m glad I could help you, Onii-chan” 

After that, Rindou and Kyouka passed the time chatting about trivial things. Their conversation was lively and warm. They continued until breakfast was brought to them.
