Episode 91: The Person to Trust

At breakfast time, Rindou left the hospital. 

After retrieving his Gale Sword from the security room, he headed straight for the Association building. 

“…Alright, I’ve sent the message to Kyousuke and Ayane.” 

The message read, 『I want to discuss my future activities』. 

Both Kyousuke and Ayane responded quickly. They agreed to meet at the Association building. 

“Let’s grab some breakfast.” 

Rindou made his way to the convenience store adjacent to the building. He purchased an onigiri and a drink, and headed to the dining space. 

He planned to eat while waiting for the two to arrive. However, an unexpected encounter awaited him. 

“Huh? Aren’t you… Kunichika Igari?” 

“Huh? What are you doing here, newbie?” 

In the dining space, Kunichika sat alone. He was munching on an onigiri. 

“Uh, I just came to grab a bite to eat.” 

“Ah, I see. Well, suit yourself.” 

With that, Kunichika resumed silently eating his onigiri. 

Rindou took a seat one table away. He unwrapped his own onigiri and began eating as well. 

(…This is awkward…) 

“Hey, newbie.” 

“Y-Yes? What is it?” 

As Rindou was feeling the tension, Kunichika suddenly spoke. 

“How’s Kyousuke doing?” 

“Eh? Oh… He’s fine. His old injury is completely healed thanks to an Advanced Potion.” 

“I see… That’s good.” 

“Uh, what exactly do you—” 

Before Rindou could finish his question, Kunichika cut him off. 

“Well then, see you around, newbie.” 

With that, Kunichika left the dining space. 

Rindou could only watch him go in silence, left to ponder the meaning of his words. 

(…It makes sense that he’d know about Kyousuke’s knee injury. Kyousuke used to be in a high-profile party. So if Kunichika saw him as a rival, he might’ve gathered information. But what did he mean by ‘That’s good’?) 

Rindou had only seen the two arguing before and assumed they didn’t get along. However, upon reflection, he realized he didn’t know the full story of their relationship. Perhaps it wasn’t as antagonistic as he thought. 

“…Might as well ask Kyousuke while I’m at it.” 

Deciding to bring it up later, Rindou finished his onigiri.

About 30 minutes after arriving at the Association building, Kyousuke showed up. Ayane arrived five minutes later. 

“Sorry for keeping you waiting!” 

“I didn’t wait long.” 

“I called you here suddenly, so don’t worry about it.” 

When Ayane apologized for being late, both Kyousuke and Rindou reassured her it wasn’t an issue. 

“So, Rindou-kun, what’s this about?” 

“Yeah! Kyouka-chan just got better; you could’ve taken it easy for at least a day!” 

Kyousuke and Ayane both expressed their concern. But Rindou shook his head and began to speak. 

“I talked with Kyouka this morning. And during that conversation, I decided on my future activities. I wanted to share it with you two.” 

Hearing this, Kyousuke and Ayane straightened up. Their expressions were serious. 

“But it’s not something overly dramatic or complicated. I’ve decided to do my best at my own pace. Kyouka made me realize there’s no point in overdoing it.” 

“Doing your best at your own pace, huh?” 

“…Yeah, I think that’s a great decision!” 

Kyousuke and Ayane nodded. They were clearly agreeing with Rindou’s words. 

“To be honest, I’d considered pushing myself harder to help more people. But that would only increase the risks I’d face. If I were to die, I’d leave Kyouka alone. That’s something I can’t allow. So I realized I couldn’t find the answer on my own.” 

“And then Kyouka-chan gave you some valuable advice, right?” 

“Yeah. She told me that if I just keep doing my best, I’ll naturally be able to help more people.” 

“Kyouka-chan gave such a great perspective!” 

Both Kyousuke and Ayane admired Kyouka’s insight, and Rindou felt genuinely proud. 

“And so… I trust both of you. And I’ve decided to trust the person you two trust as well.” 

“The person we trust?” 

“Who could that be?” 

Both Kyousuke and Ayane tilted their heads in unison, puzzled. 

“That person is… Branch Manager Dōmura.” 

“”Eh?! Th-The Branch Manager?!”” 

Rindou’s declaration elicited simultaneous cries of surprise from the two.
