My Unique Skill [Gacha] Will Save the World - Episode 92: Kenji Dōmura’s Decision
Episode 92: Kenji Dōmura’s Decision
——Brrrrring….
“Yes?”
The phone in the branch manager’s office rang. And Kenji picked it up.
“…Understood. Send them in right away.”
After ending the call, Kenji let out a small sigh.
“Well then… Will this turn out to be a blessing or a curse?”
Murmuring to himself, he waited for the visitor to arrive.
——Knock, knock.
“Come in.”
After a moment, there was a knock on the door. Kenji’s response was followed by the door slowly opening.
“Excuse us, Branch Manager Dōmura.”
First, Ayane stepped into the room. She was followed by Kyousuke, with Rindou entering last.
“So, you said you wanted to meet me without an appointment. I assume this must be urgent?”
Kenji had already guessed that the visit might concern him directly. Considering they’d come without prior notice, he figured the matter might not necessarily be bad news for him.
(Still, I won’t relax until I hear what Player Amachi has to say. Let’s see where this goes…)
Although Kenji outwardly remained calm, his heart raced as he watched Rindou open his mouth to speak.
“Will you train me?”
Hearing Rindou’s words, Kenji clenched his fist internally. Though a question surfaced in his mind.
“Not to raise your rank, but to train you?”
Kenji had assessed Rindou’s abilities as being at least B-rank level. It had the potential to reach S-rank if his latent abilities were fully developed. From his perspective, promoting Rindou’s rank would not be an issue.
However, Rindou’s choice of words intrigued him. It prompted him to seek clarification.
“I achieved my goal of obtaining the Elixir, thanks to your arrangements. I’m truly grateful.”
“No, I just happened to hear that Player Yada was searching for a five-star or higher gate.”
“Even so, it was a strategy that got me exactly what I needed most. I can’t thank you enough.”
Kenji accepted Rindou’s sincere gratitude without hesitation.
“…Now that I’ve reached my greatest goal, I’ve been thinking about what’s next. Kyousuke has also urged me to consider it.”
Rindou began explaining his thoughts to Kenji.
Should he push himself to help as many people as possible, or should he focus on what was achievable within his limits?
He also shared how his sister Kyouka’s words helped solidify his decision.
“It might go against what you had in mind for me, but I can’t leave Kyouka behind and die.”
“So, you want to grow stronger?”
“Yes. I want to grow stronger so I can help as many people as possible within my reach. I have no intention of slacking off in gate raids, either.”
Hearing this, Kenji pondered Rindou’s words.
(Player Amachi isn’t lying. If I were to train him directly, I could also keep track of his progress. But…)
After organizing his thoughts, Kenji spoke.
“…I can’t train you directly.”
“Why not, Branch Manager?”
It was Kyousuke who objected, and Ayane shot a reproachful look at Kenji.
“Don’t misunderstand me. It’s not that I won’t; it’s that I can’t.”
“…What do you mean by that?”
Rindou was confused. He asked for clarification.
“When you started, Player Amachi was evaluated at an E-rank level. Now, your skills are equivalent to C-rank—no, even B-rank is well within reason.”
“Does that mean Rindou-san was hiding his abilities during the evaluation?”
Ayane raised her doubts, but Kenji shook his head.
“Remember, I’m the branch manager. I always check the rank evaluations of players I’m interested in.”
“…You were watching them?”
“The evaluations are recorded, so I reviewed them. At that time, your movements were impressive. You appeared to be giving it your all.”
Indeed, during his initial evaluation, Rindou had performed to the best of his ability. He was relying only on basic sword skills. That had been his full power at the time.
“But with each gate you’ve entered, you’ve grown stronger. I suspect you’ve gained some kind of skill that enhances your abilities through experience.”
“But even so, that’s no reason for you to refuse to train him!”
To steer the conversation away from Rindou’s secret, Kyousuke interjected.
“Player Amachi seems to improve through real combat experience. Even if I were to train him now, I doubt it would yield significant results. That’s why I can’t train him.”
Kenji didn’t know about Rindou’s [Gacha] skill. But his deduction was uncannily accurate.
“That being said, I can prioritize assigning gates to Player Amachi and his team.”
“…What?”
“I told you, didn’t I? He improves through real combat. That’s the best way to strengthen him.”
While Kenji stated he couldn’t personally train Rindou, he subtly conveyed his willingness to support Rindou’s growth.
“Thank you, Branch Manager.”
“Think nothing of it. However, there might come a time when I’ll need your cooperation. Can I count on you then?”
“Of course! I look forward to working with you!”
And so, Rindou established a collaborative relationship with Kenji. They sealed it with a firm handshake.
