Episode 93: Introduction of a Gate 

“That being said, I have a gate I want to introduce to the Player Amachi.” 

Right after forming an alliance, Kenji suddenly said those words. 

“That’s quite sudden, isn’t it?” 

“You’ve come this far to become stronger, so I can’t just not introduce you to the gate, right?” 

Kenji grinned. Rindou couldn’t help but smile wryly in response. 

“There are two gates. One is a 5-star, and it appeared an hour ago. The other is a 4-star, but three parties have already failed to clear it.” 

After hearing about the second door, Rindou and the others were puzzled. 

“A 4-star gate, and yet three parties have failed?” 

Sometimes, even the Association’s personnel can make mistakes in selecting parties. 

However, if it happens three times, the situation is different. 

“Are you sure it’s really a 4-star gate?” 

“Without a doubt, it is marked as a 4-star. But at this point, I can’t help but doubt it.” 

In response to Rindou’s voice of suspicion, Kenji answered with a thoughtful expression. 

“Could it be a double gate?” 

At those words from Kenji, Ayane reacted. 

“That’s probably it. It was only confirmed a few times in Japan, but I never expected it to appear again…” 

“Branch Manager, what was the rank of the parties that failed to clear it?” 

In response to Kyousuke’s question, Kenji answered with a serious expression. 

“First, there was a mixed party of D-rank and E-rank, then a D-rank party, and finally a C-rank party.” 

“What?! …A C-rank party failed?” 

“Yeah. Among us, we’re considering bypassing B-rank and asking an A-rank party for help.” 

Upon hearing “A-rank party”, Rindou and Kyousuke looked at Ayane. 

“…Huh? Me?” 

“If we ask Player Kazaki, it would be a combined party. So considering the coordination, we would prefer a more experienced party.” 

After hearing Kenji’s words, Ayane let out a sigh of relief. 

“Oh, so it’s not that you dislike it?” 

“It’s not that I dislike it. It’s just that I know clearing a double gate is going to be incredibly difficult. And I feel like my individual strength isn’t quite enough for it.” 

Ayane answered with a wry smile to Rindou’s question. 

“Well, I don’t want to push things too much either. A C-rank party clearing a gate of the same rank is the ideal scenario.” 

“Even if Player Kazaki is A-rank, Player Amachi and Player Yada are C-rank. However, I introduced this gate just in case you’re hoping for a strong challenge. So don’t overthink it.” 

While Kenji would have liked to hear that they wanted to clear the gate, this choice was inevitable. He understood that after hearing Rindou’s thoughts. 

“Then, would it be alright if I ask the Player Amachi to tackle the 5-star gate?” 

Kenji had shifted his mindset and asked. Rindou and the others looked at each other. They then nodded to confirm their decision. 

“Understood. We’ll clear the 5-star gate.” 

“We’ve cleared a 6-star, so it should be easy for us!” 

“If you say that, you’ll end up getting caught off guard,” 

Kyousuke said with a wry smile. He was trying to keep Ayane in check. 

(Sometimes, Player Kazaki gets a little carried away. But Player Yada knows how to reign her in. By doing so, Player Amachi can relax and show his true abilities. This might be the kind of party they have.) 

Despite the rank difference, Kenji was impressed by how well-balanced the party seemed. 

(The potential of Player Amachi is still unknown. And if they stay injury-free, they’d be B-rank… or even A-rank. If they continue to grow, we might even start seeing the clearing of that newly difficult gate.) 

“Is something wrong, Branch Manager?” 

Rindou called out to Kenji, who had fallen into thought. 

“Huh? No, nothing. Well then, please pick up the map showing the gate’s location at the first-floor reception later.” 

“Got it. Thank you for your assistance despite the sudden visit.” 

After Rindou expressed his gratitude, the three stood up and left the branch manager’s office. 

“…….Are you here, Kageboshi?” 

“Yes, I’m here.” 

Immediately after Rindou and the others closed the door, Kenji called out to Kageboshi. She had been lurking in the shadows. 

“The 4-star gate turned out to be a double gate. Do you think it’s safe to say that the newly discovered 5-star gate is not one?” 

“…I don’t know.” 

“Well, that’s understandable.” 

Kenji let out a small sigh and made a decision. 

“…This time, without letting the Player Amachi notice, use your skills to enter the gate together with them.” 

“What! Are you serious, Branch Manager?!” 

Kageboshi was stunned by the unexpected statement. 

“If the inside of the gate is like a Colosseum, my presence will be immediately discovered. That means, the fact that the Branch Manager has a shadow presence might be revealed, right?” 

“I don’t mind. I can’t afford to lose the Player Amachi. If I judge that they are in danger, intervene and help them.” 

Kageboshi was a private soldier. She was employed personally by Kenji. 

Her existence was unknown to anyone, and she had handled dirty work in the past. 

Kenji had asked her to take the risk of revealing her existence. 

“…Well, I don’t have the right to refuse.” 

“Don’t make it troublesome.” 

“This is part of the job. Well then, excuse me.” 

With that, Kageboshi vanished. 

“As long as they can clear it without any issues, that’s fine. If not, I may need to rewrite the guidelines for gate clearances.” 

Leaning his full weight against the back of the chair, Kenji stared blankly at the white ceiling for a while.
