Episode 94: The 5-Star Gate 

As Rindou and the others moved to the first floor of the Association building, they were immediately greeted by Aoba.

“Good work! I’ve heard from the Branch Manager, so please take this!” 

Aoba said as she handed them a map leading to the 5-star gate.

“You’re fast with your work.” 

“Well, I’m a capable staff member, after all!” 

“Though, you seemed a bit flustered when Rindou-san came to register, didn’t you?” 

“Ch-Chotto, Kazaki-sama~!”

Ayane teased Aoba, who puffed out her chest proudly. And Aoba let out a flustered laugh.

“Let’s head out right away.” 

“Right.” 

“Let’s go!” 

“Everyone, please be careful!” 

With Aoba’s words in the background, Rindou and the others left the Association building.

On the way to the 5-star gate, Rindou relayed his conversation with Kunichika to Kyousuke.

“…Kunichika said that?” 

“Yeah. It seemed like he was worried about you, Kyousuke. But what is your relationship like with him, really?” 

Kyousuke had heard Rindou’s story. He looked incredulous for a moment and then turned thoughtful.

“…At first, we got along well. We competed with each other, pushing each other to improve. But as I mentioned before. After I reached C-rank first, he started distancing himself. After that, I thought he didn’t like me.” 

“So, there wasn’t an actual fight or an event that caused the relationship to sour?” 

“Now that I think about it, I don’t think there was.” 

Rindou wondered if this was something he should interfere with. 

However, from what he had observed in Kunichika’s behavior, it was clear there was an uncomfortable tension between the two.

“How about after the clear? You should sit down and have a proper talk.” 

“Me, talk to Kunichika? Hmm, I don’t know. He might refuse.” 

“In that case, try asking anyway! You’ll never know unless you try!” 

“That’s true… Well, I’ll think about it.”

Kyousuke gave a wry smile. But Rindou thought it was better to do it sooner rather than later. 

That was only because they were players.

“…Hey, Kyousuke.” 

“What is it, Rindou-kun?” 

“We’re players, and so is Kunichika. That means we’re all doing work where we never know when we might die, right?” 

“…Yeah, that’s true.”

In a profession where there’s no guarantee of life, that’s what being a player means.

Realizing what Rindou meant, Kyousuke looked surprised for a brief moment before he smiled.

“By the way, do you have his contact info?” 

“Yeah, I still have it. Well, assuming it hasn’t changed.” 

“Try contacting him. If that doesn’t work, we can stake out the Association building.” 

“Do we really need to go that far?” 

“Yes, you do! If you can get along, that’s the best outcome!” 

Rindou thought that Ayane’s personality was really helpful in this situation. 

He might not have been able to propose it so strongly, let alone so cheerfully. 

Ayane’s atmosphere seemed to ease Kyousuke’s thinking. It led him to decide to try contacting Kunichika.

“Alright, alright. Geez, Ayane-san, you’re so persistent.” 

“It’s just my personality, so what can I do?” 

“Is that something to be proud of?” 

“Of course! I’m proud of it, Rindou-san!” 

From the outside, no one would think that these three were heading to tackle a gate. 

It looked like a group of close friends walking together, chatting happily.

Ayane shouted, pointing ahead. 

What they saw was a massive gate leading to another world.

With that, Rindou and the others stepped into the 5-star gate.
