Episode 95: The Labyrinth-Type Otherworld
“…This time, it’s a normal field.”
Rindou muttered. He had been on guard since the 6-star gate was a Coliseum. He was wondering what this one would be like.
“…No, it might not be the case.”
“That’s right.”
However, Kyousuke and Ayane had different opinions.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. This is probably a labyrinth-type otherworld.”
“Is it really possible to have two consecutive gates that are inescapable?”
“…Inescapable?”
Rindou heard Ayane’s words and let out a confused voice.
“It means you can’t escape unless you clear it.”
“In the case of beginner player gates or field-type otherworlds, there was usually a gate to return to the original world, right?”
“That’s true… but there’s none here.”
Rindou looked back at where the gate should have been. But there was nothing there.
With the absence of a gate and the surrounding ancient walls, as well as the fact that it wasn’t a single room like the Coliseum, Kyousuke and Ayane had made their judgment.
“Seriously? …It’s really a good thing this happened after Kyoula’s been saved.”
“You’re right.”
“Labyrinth-type otherworlds can sometimes take days to clear, depending on the situation. We’re really lucky.”
Despite breathing a sigh of relief, they knew there was no time to waste if it was going to take a long time.
“Let’s head out.”
“We can’t delay reuniting with Kyouka-san.”
“Just like Yada-senpai said!”
“Well, that wasn’t the reason I was in a hurry, though.”
Kyousuke and Ayane both smiled. And Rindou returned a wry smile in response.
Still, if they could clear it quickly, that was the best outcome. So as declared, Rindou and the others started moving through the corridor.
“Let’s divide up the roles. I’ll scout ahead. Ayane-san, you support me. And Rindou-kun, can you keep an eye on the rear?”
“Understood!”
“Don’t cause trouble for us, Kyousuke.”
Rindou’s abilities and experience were unbalanced. But he felt bad for burdening Kyousuke and Ayane.
“Don’t worry about it. Experience can only be gained by repeatedly clearing gates.”
“That’s true, but I still feel bad about it.”
“If you feel bad, then how about teaching how to scout during this clear.”
“…Is that okay?”
Rindou was grateful for the unexpected offer. But he also hesitated, unsure if it was appropriate to be taught the technique so easily.
“If you get stronger, I’ll have it easier.”
“I also want things to be easier!”
“…You two really are something. Alright, I’ll leave it at that. Kyousuke, I’m counting on you.”
With Kyousuke lightening the mood with a joke so Rindou wouldn’t feel too pressured. Ayane joined in, brightening the atmosphere.
Grateful for their kindness, Rindou decided to ask Kyousuke for guidance.
“With that in mind, should we have Ayane-san watch the rear?”
“Sorry, Ayane.”
“No problem! Do your best, Rindou-san!”
Ayane cheerfully accepted the rear watch. Alongside Kyousuke, Rindou moved forward.
“You have the skill [Intermediate Swordsmanship], so you should be able to sense presence, right?”
“I can do that.”
“Then, can you tell what kind of shape the presence takes?”
“No, I can’t do that… wait, is that even possible?”
Rindou let out a surprised voice. He was wondering if it was really possible to know the shape just by sensing the presence.
“It’s possible. If you can feel the presence they’re emitting, the size of it, how it’s flowing, you can figure out what form it’s taking.”
“…That sounds pretty tough.”
“You’ve got the skill to help, so it’s easy.”
After hearing Kyousuke’s words, Rindou felt a chill.
“…Wait a second, Kyousuke.”
“Hmm? What’s up?”
“You mean you can sense the presence and know the opponent’s shape even without relying on skills?”
“Yeah, that’s right. Well, I became better at it after awakening as a player. But I’m not using any skills for that.”
Kyousuke casually said it as if it were nothing. And Rindou was shocked by his monstrous abilities.
(…Could it be that I’ve awakened some insane guy?)
“What’s wrong, Rindou-kun?”
“…N-Nothing.”
Kyousuke did not realize what had shocked Rindou. He tilted his head in confusion.
(Yada-senpai, nothing’s changed, huh?)
Ayane thought this to herself while watching the flustered Rindou and the puzzled Kyousuke.
