“Alright, then let’s start by trying to detect the presence first.” 

“Got it.”

Rindou felt he could improve his skills. So he began detecting the presence as instructed.

“…………Got one.” 

“Can you also tell the size?” 

“…Hold on a second.”

“Take your time.”

As Rindou focused on detecting the presence, he became completely defenseless. 

Because he trusted his companions, he could accept this situation and focus entirely on growing.

“…One is about the size of my knee. The other one… maybe about waist height?” 

“Correct, Rindou-kun.”

Though it had only been a short time, Rindou was sweating from concentrating all his attention on the task.

“I’m amazed you were able to detect that much on your first try.” 

“…I’m actually more surprised by you, Kyousuke. You are doing all that without relying on skill power.” 

“I grew up in an environment where that kind of thing was necessary. So it couldn’t be helped.” 

“You sure make it sound easy.”

Rindou wiped his sweat and spoke. But Kyousuke immediately presented the next challenge.

“Now, let’s see if you can identify what kind of monster that is.” 

“Hey, that seems a bit too difficult, don’t you think?”

Rindou grimaced at the suggestion. But Kyousuke shook his head.

“You can do it, Rindou-kun.” 

“Based on what, exactly?” 

“Presence detection is the first stage; anyone can do that. The second stage is to sense the size and the flow of the presence. The third stage, identifying the monster type, is the hardest part, but…” 

At that point, Kyousuke paused.

Currently, Rindou had barely completed the second stage. And his accuracy was still low. 

Kyousuke felt that they should solidify the second stage first. But he still started talking about the third stage for a reason.

“…Rindou-kun, you’ve got a lot of monster knowledge in your head, right?” 

“Yeah, I do. I wanted to become a player, so I read a lot of books on that stuff.” 

“That’s it!”

Kyousuke cut him off with an excited shout.

“…W-What do you mean by ‘that’?” 

“Monster knowledge! That’s the most important thing for the third stage!” 

“…….…Is that so?”

Rindou was stunned by the unexpected answer.

“Even including myself, players tend to learn a lot through hands-on experience and neglect their studies. So, even if you detect a monster’s presence and form, it’s hard to identify what kind of monster it is.” 

“Well, it’s usually quicker to judge by sight, right?” 

“Exactly. But if you know the monster type in advance and can prepare accordingly, don’t you think it increases your chances of surviving?”

“That’s true.”

Rindou hadn’t gathered knowledge about players and monsters just because he liked it. He had desperately devoured books to achieve his goal. 

And as a result, that knowledge had directly led to his ability to tackle the third stage of presence detection.

“With that knowledge of yours, what kind of monster do you think this one is?”

Kyousuke asked, and Rindou started thinking.

(…It’s bipedal like a human, but small in size. However, this is a 4-star gate. Just because it’s small doesn’t mean it’s a weak monster.)

After considering it for a while, Rindou offered a few possibilities.

“…Considering it’s a 4-star gate, maybe it’s a higher-ranked Goblin or Kobold?” 

Kyousuke nodded, looking satisfied with the answer.

“In that case, we should assume it’s a stronger type of Kobold and plan accordingly, right?”

Kyousuke nodded happily and then turned to Ayane.

“Ayane-san, is that okay with you?” 

“Eh? Oh, yes! Of course! Alright, let’s do this!” 

Ayane responded unusually energetically. Which made Rindou raise an eyebrow.

Ayane had been listening to Kyousuke’s comments on how players tend to neglect studies. She realized that it applied to her as well. And her awkwardness made her act a bit strangely.
