Episode 116: Rindou’s Decision 

Faced with two grim pieces of news, Rindou paused for a moment to consider what he should do. 

“Rindou-kun, you should go to the hospital.” 

“Leave the gate’s conquest to us!” 

Kyousuke and Ayane immediately spoke up. 

“I’m sorry, Player Amachi. You can leave this to us.” 

“Are you sure, Branch Manager?” 

“I have no reason to tie down a Player Amachi. Besides, isn’t your sister the reason you continue as a player? If so, then what you should prioritize above all else is her.” 

With Kenji’s permission, Rindou straightened his expression. 

“Thank you.” 

“There’s just one thing I’d like to ask.” 

“What is it?” 

When Kenji said this, Rindou nodded. He then made his request.

“Player Amachi, if you’re willing to hear my request, could you come to us with Kageboshi once your sister’s condition improves?” 

The failure to conquer the 4-star gate had dire implications. It was especially considering that an A-rank party with more than the required strength was involved. If an irregular 4-star gate caused a stampede, the city could be obliterated in an instant. 

Every bit of strength was needed, even from a single person. And if that person had the power of someone like Rindou, a player on par with S-rank, it was all the more critical. 

“Of course. I’ll come immediately.” 

“Thank you, Player Amachi.” 

“We’ll handle the communications, Ayane-san and I.” 

“Leave it to us!” 

After their voices of reassurance, Rindou began walking toward the door. 

“Rindou Amachi.” 

The voice came from Kageboshi, who had been silent until now. 

“What is it?” 

“…I’ll be waiting.” 

Though her words were brief, Kageboshi spoke with resolve. She extended her fist toward Rindou. 

“…Got it. Wait for me.” 

Rindou nodded firmly, bumping his fist lightly against Kageboshi’s. Before he left the branch manager’s office. 

(Wait for me, Kyouka! I’m coming to you right away!) 

What had happened to Kyouka? To find out the truth, Rindou sprinted to the hospital at full speed.

Twenty minutes after Rindou dashed out of the Association building— 

“Kyouka!” 

“Rindou-san!” 

Bursting into Kyouka’s hospital room, Rindou saw Kanna. She was continuously using [Light Magic]. 

“What happened?” 

“Well, we don’t know either. There were no abnormalities during the detailed examination after she drank the Elixir. And we were even talking about her discharge being soon. Then suddenly—” 

Ahead of Kanna’s magic, Kyouka lay in bed. She looked pained as she slept. Her forehead was drenched with large beads of sweat. Her hands instinctively clutched at her chest. 

“…Kyouka.” 

Rindou called her name in an anxious voice. He held her right hand gently in both of his. 

As if hearing Rindou’s voice or sensing his warmth, Kyouka slowly opened her eyes. 

“…Onii-chan?” 

“Kyouka!” 

Hearing her voice, Rindou raised his face sharply to look at her. 

“…Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.” 

“How can you say that when you’re in so much pain?!” 

Despite her suffering, Kyouka managed a faint smile and turned her gaze toward Kanna. 

“…Doctor.” 

“Don’t worry, Kyouka-san. I’ll definitely heal you!” 

“…Please, stop using magic.” 

“Kyouka-san!?” 

“What are you saying, Kyouka?” 

Both Kanna and Rindou raised their voices in shock at Kyouka’s unexpected request to stop the magic. 

“…It’s okay. If you stop, I’ll get better. I understand my own body best, you know?” 

Though hesitant, Kanna met Kyouka’s determined gaze. Which was filled with unshakable resolve despite her suffering. 

“…Do as Kyouka says, Doctor.”

“Rindou-kun too?!” 

Kanna raised her voice in even greater surprise at Rindou’s words. 

“There might be something Kyouka understands that we don’t.” 

“But it’s too dangerous! What if something happens?!” 

“But… how much hope is there that things will improve as they are now?” 

“Well… that’s…” 

When Rindou pressed the question, Kanna hesitated to answer. 

“Please, Doctor. Let’s trust Kyouka.” 

Even as he spoke, Rindou’s heart was heavy with anxiety. He knew, as Kanna had warned, that stopping the magic could lead to something catastrophic. 

Whether it would lead to a solution or make things worse—he could only hope for the best. 

Even so, Rindou wanted to believe in Kyouka’s words. As she was likely the one feeling the greatest anxiety. 

“………Understood. Kyouka-san, are you sure about this?” 

With Rindou’s support, Kanna steeled her resolve. She told herself that if anything went wrong, she would do everything in her power to handle it. And she confirmed with Kyouka once more. 

“…Please.” 

As Kyouka gave a firm nod, Kanna stopped using her magic. 

“……Ugh… ah… ahhhhhhhhhh!!” 

“Kyouka!” 

“Kyouka-san!” 

The moment Kanna ceased the magic, Kyouka let out a pained scream.
