Episode 117: Awakening

A blinding light had radiated from Kyouka’s body. It was enveloping the hospital room in pure white. 

Neither Rindou nor Kanna had understood what was happening. They couldn’t even tell if Kyouka was safe. 

“Damn it! Kyouka! Kyouka!” 

Rindou’s anxiety had only grown as the light had obscured his view. It prevented him from confirming Kyouka’s safety. 

“It’s okay, Onii-chan.” 

“Kyouka!? Are you really… okay?” 

Kyouka’s voice had been filled with pain earlier. But it was now calling out to Rindou in an exceptionally calm tone. 

As the light had gradually faded, Rindou and Kanna had finally been able to see Kyouka. 

“……Are you really Kyouka-san?” 

The surprised voice had come from Kanna. 

“Yes, Dr. Ayase. I am Kyouka.” 

Kanna’s doubt had been understandable to Rindou. 

Kyouka’s appearance had changed dramatically—her once short black hair had grown long and turned into a deep blue color. 

“You recognize me, don’t you, Onii-chan?” 

“Of course, I do. Who do you think I am?” 

Rindou had no doubts. No matter how much her appearance had changed, he would never mistake Kyouka. 

“Thank you, Onii-chan. Because of you, I’ve awakened as a player.” 

“………….Because of me?” 

However, Rindou had tilted his head in confusion at Kyouka’s words. She claimed that it was thanks to him that she had become a player.

“Are you saying the Elixir helped you awaken as a player?”

“If I told Onii-chan or Dr. Ayase, you’d worry, wouldn’t you?” 

Feeling apologetic, Kyouka lowered her gaze. And Rindou had given her a wry smile. 

“Well, of course. You’re my precious little sister.” 

“Hehe…” 

Blushing at Rindou’s words, Kyouka hugged him tightly. 

“…Seeing you like this, it really is you, Kyouka-san.” 

“I told you, didn’t I, Doctor?” 

“Yes, but still… Well, I suppose it’s not surprising for something extraordinary to happen after using something as unprecedented as the Elixir.” 

Kanna sighed and continued speaking. 

“Still, given your current condition, we need to run a thorough examination.” 

“Ehh~? Doctor, I’m telling you, I’m fine now!” 

“No, you’re not. Kyouka, you need to do this.” 

Even though Kyouka had stubbornly insisted she was fine, Rindou had agreed with Kanna about the necessity of the tests. 

“Even you, Onii-chan…” 

“That’s exactly why we need to investigate. We don’t know what might happen. And if someone else like you emerges in the future, we need to be prepared. It might be scary, but you need to cooperate.” 

“I’m not scared! …Well, if you say so, Onii-chan, I’ll do it.” 

Although still somewhat dissatisfied, Kyouka had agreed since it was her brother asking. 

“Thank you, Kyouka.” 

“But! Can I ask for one thing?” 

“What is it?” 

However, she had one condition. 

“When you come back, take me out! A date, Onii-chan!” 

“A date with you, Kyouka? That doesn’t sound bad.” 

Smiling, Rindou patted Kyouka’s head. He then shifted to a more serious expression. 

“Dr. Ayase, I’ll leave Kyouka in your care.” 

“You’re leaving already? Shouldn’t you stay with Kyouka-san—” 

“It’s fine, Doctor. Take care, Onii-chan.” 

Sensing something, Kyouka interrupted Kanna. She sent her brother off with encouraging words. 

“Yeah, I’ll be back.” 

With a firm reply to Kyouka, Rindou quickly left the hospital room. 

“…Come back safely, Onii-chan.” 

Her worried words drifted with the wind, disappearing into the distant sky.
