Episode 126: The Immortal Sword, Durandal

The moment Durandal’s blade touched the jet-black mist, a searing sound, like burning flesh, resounded. It was accompanied by a pungent black smoke rising into the air.

The corrosive mist was capable of melting even metal. It would ordinarily cause severe degradation to even the highest-quality materials.  

But this was the Immortal Sword, Durandal.

“Get blown away!!”

“Ju-ju!?”

The mist that came into contact with Durandal didn’t melt the blade. Instead, the mist itself disappeared.  

This unexpected turn of events caused the Beelzebub to emit a clearly confused cry.  

“Ju… Juju-kiiiiii!!”

With a shrill screech, the dome-shaped black mist collapsed. And it surged directly toward Rindou in an attempt to overwhelm him.  

Despite the assault, Rindou remained composed. He slashed through the approaching mist with his [Advanced Swordsmanship], dispersing it entirely.

“I’m finishing this in one go!”

“Kiiiiiiii!!”

The Beelzebub let out a high-pitched scream. It turned its scream into an ultrasonic wave that targeted Rindou’s inner ear. It was attempting to destabilize his balance.

“[Thunderous Explosion]!”

Though Rindou no longer wielded the Voltenix, the one who unleashed the [Thunderous Explosion] wasn’t him.

“Nice one—Kageboshi!”

“Juju!?”

The ultrasonic wave and the thunderclap collided, canceling each other out with a powerful shockwave.  

The last of the black mist was blown away, clearing the battlefield. Now, not only Rindou but also Ayane and Kageboshi could rejoin the fight.

“Let’s finish this together!”

“You got it!”

“I’m borrowing this spear!”

Kageboshi leapt forward, gripping the Voltenix firmly in her hands. She thrusted its tip toward the Beelzebub with precise movements.

“Juju!”

“You’re not getting away! [Lightning Flash]!”

Infused with Voltenix’s lightning, Kageboshi’s speed doubled. It allowed her to close the distance to the Beelzebub in an instant.  

With one decisive slash, she severed three of the Beelzebub’s six wings on its right side.

“Juuuugyaaahhh!?”

“My turn! Skill: [Fire]!”

Ayane’s sword erupted into flames. Upon closer inspection, it wasn’t the sword she had been using before.  

“Ahaha! This sword I got in the Colosseum suits me perfectly!”

Her new sword, Elphines, enhanced her abilities even further. It allowed her magic to flow more freely than before.

“Haaaaahhhhhhh!!”

With three wings lost, Beelzebub could no longer escape into the sky.  

Unable to do more than writhe helplessly, the monster was struck by Ayane’s fiery blade. Which scorched its back and destroyed the remaining three wings.

“I’m leaving the rest to you, Rindou-san!”

“Do it, Rindou Amachi!”

“Leave it to me!”

Rindou was already on the move. He maneuvered behind the Beelzebub, now wingless, to its blind spot. He raised Durandal high.

“Ju… Ju-ju-gi-giaaaahhhh!!”

As a last-ditch effort, the Beelzebub released an even denser black mist.

“Is that all you’ve got!?”

Rindou swung Durandal sharply, dispersing the mist.  

However, this wasn’t the end. A boss monster guarding a double-gate chamber wouldn’t go down so easily.

“This is the final blow—huh!?”

Clearing away the mist, Rindou was met with the sight of Beelzebub manifesting a purple light directly in front of him.

“Juuugiryaaaaahhhh!!”

The purple beam shot forward at blinding speed. It was heading straight for Rindou.  

But Rindou’s hand wielded not just a weapon—it held a sword that also served as the ultimate shield.

“I’m counting on you, Durandal!”

Using Durandal as a shield, Rindou intercepted the purple light.  

“Ughhhhhh!!”

Though the shock couldn’t be entirely nullified, the poison-laced, high-penetration beam itself was deflected upward by the slanted blade of Durandal.  

And Rindou wasn’t limited to just defense.

“I’ll return this force right back at you!”

As the beam’s force waned, Rindou lowered his stance to avoid the remaining energy. He launched forward in a single, fluid motion.

“[Reflection]!”

Using the skill [Iron Wall Reflection], which stored the damage he had accumulated, Rindou unleashed a devastating blow against the Beelzebub.

——Zwoosh!  

“Ju… Juuu—!?”

The Beelzebub let out what seemed like a final cry. But it was cut short as Durandal cleaved from its head to its tail in one decisive stroke.

Thus, Rindou and his allies succeeded in defeating the double-gate boss monster, Beelzebub.
