In his private office at the Special Monster Research Institute, Misaki was watching footage from a surveillance camera.  

It wasn’t footage provided by anyone but something Misaki had obtained through hacking.  

“Still, I was truly shocked when I first got this information. To think that in cases of awakening without any discernible pattern, an Elixir could act as a trigger to induce awakening.”  

Misaki had learned about Kyouka’s awakening purely by coincidence.  

The day Kyouka awakened, a player who happened to be visiting the hospital witnessed the light from her awakening. And the story eventually made its way to Misaki as a rumor.  

At first, Misaki hadn’t paid it much attention.  

However, the hospital was where the sister of someone involved in an incident related to monsters stolen from their research lab was hospitalized. Because of this connection, the event remained tucked in the corner of Misaki’s mind.  

“Hahaha. Was it Rindou Amachi? It’s fortunate that guy is just a rookie player. If it had been a higher-ranked player, the hospital might have admitted them to a ward with stricter security.”  

Curious, Misaki hacked into the hospital system to review the recorded footage. It was where he found a video of Kyouka’s awakening.  

Although Misaki specialized in researching special monsters, monsters themselves were not his primary interest.  

Rather, he was more intrigued by the evolutionary potential of players, humans who transcended their limits.  

Monster research was merely a stepping stone to studying players. And Misaki now possessed the power and intellect to pursue his true goal.  

“Just you wait, Kyouka Amachi! I’ll definitely get my hands on you and thoroughly investigate you as my research specimen!”  

Misaki’s face twisted into a sinister smile as he spoke.

Inside a certain gate, a monster harbored an ever-growing hatred toward humans.  

“Why must I suffer such indignities?! I hate them, I despise those humans!!”  

Surrounding the monster were numerous others, all of which possessed strength comparable to monsters from star-5 or star-6 regions.  

Normally, even powerful star-5 or star-6 monsters might attack in unison. But rarely would they follow the lead of a single monster.  

When it did occur, it was usually due to the influence of a monster’s skill.  

“…Hahaha, but no matter. I am growing stronger. Soon, without fail, I will eradicate humans!”  

However, this particular monster was different.  

It had no skills to control others. Instead, through its sheer strength and overwhelming presence, it had subjugated every monster within all the gates.  

“Just a little more, just a little more. Then I shall destroy the seals of these gates!”  

With deep crimson eyes gazing skyward, the monster let out a resounding roar.  

“First, I’ll kill *that one*! Then I’ll annihilate every last human!”  

The monster was suppressing its fury and biding its time. It continued to gather its strength, preparing for the moment of explosive retribution.
