“What’s the matter, Kageboshi?” 

“The underground organization has started investigating your existence.” 

Hearing the words “underground organization” from Kageboshi, Rindou tilted his head in confusion. 

“Underground organization? What’s that?” 

“You might have heard about it on the news—there are players who operate in the shadows without registering with the Player Association. Do you know of them?” 

“I know those kinds of people exist, but… wait, don’t tell me they’re the ones?” 

When Rindou voiced his suspicion, Kageboshi silently nodded. 

“But why would those kinds of people be investigating me?” 

“If all you did was defeat a Dragon, it wouldn’t have been an issue. However, the golden light you emitted changes everything.” 

Kageboshi explained that the golden light—used to defeat the monster and heal players’ wounds—made the organization believe it could achieve anything if they obtained it. This led them to begin searching for its owner. 

“I see. So they’re not after *me* specifically but the owner of the golden light.” 

“That’s right. Your light is extraordinary, miraculous, and astonishingly powerful.” 

“That’s… Onii-chan…” 

As Kageboshi concluded, Kyouka looked at Rindou with a worried expression. 

“Don’t worry, Kyouka. I’m not so weak that I’d lose to people like them.” 

“Don’t be naive, Rindou Amachi. People like that won’t hesitate to use underhanded methods. If they find out you’re the source of that light, they won’t just come after you—they’ll target Kyouka Amachi as well.” 

“Me? They’d target me?” 

Kyouka gulped nervously but began to steel herself. She realized that she couldn’t afford to hold Rindou back. This resolve stemmed from the guilt of having been a burden during the fight against the Patchwork Dragon. 

“If that happens, I’ll just beat them to a pulp—” 

“No, you won’t, Onii-chan.” 

When Rindou took a protective stance, Kyouka interjected firmly. 

“What’s wrong, Kyouka?” 

“I can’t just keep being protected. I’m a player too, and I need to fend off the sparks that fly my way myself!” 

“Hah, well said, Kyouka Amachi.” 

Kageboshi seemingly wanted to confirm Kyouka’s resolve. She nodded in satisfaction at her words. 

“If that’s your desire, I’ll train you. How about it, Kyouka Amachi?” 

“Please do, Kageboshi-san!” 

“Oh! If that’s the case, I’d like to join in too, Kageboshi-san! Kyouka-chan!” 

“Really? You’d train with me, Ayane-san?” 

As the conversation took an unexpected turn, Rindou could do nothing but watch the women’s energetic exchange. 

“…You’re not going to stop them, Rindou?” 

Kunichika asked, prompting Rindou to shrug lightly before answering. 

“Kyouka can be surprisingly stubborn. Once she’s decided to do something, she’ll see it through no matter what.” 

“Is that so? Well, I bet she’ll become really strong then, won’t she?” 

“If she has Kunichika’s endorsement, I’m sure she will.” 

“…You’re really okay with this? Weren’t you a lot more skeptical about things in the past?” 

Kunichika looked at Rindou suspiciously, as though surprised by how much trust he was showing. 

“You’re someone I can entrust my back to now. Trusting you is only natural, isn’t it?” 

“…You really say embarrassing things without a second thought, don’t you?” 

“Nothing strange about it, is there?” 

“Yeah, yeah, sure. No wonder Kyousuke and the Branch Manager like you so much.” 

Kunichika shrugged as he spoke. He turned his gaze away to hide his expression. But a small grin crept across his face.

Watching the scene before him, Rindou resolved deep within to become even stronger.
